The Patterson Hotel was a prominent and luxurious hotel located in Bismarck, North Dakota, United States, that was home to the Nonpartisan League and well known for its continued construction that lasted over twenty years. The hotel was a major hotspot for politicians throughout the 1960s. First named the McKenzie Hotel, the structure was constructed by Alexander McKenzie and opened on New Year's Day, 1911. At the time it opened, the ten-story, 150-room hotel was the tallest structure in Bismarck, and would retain this distinction until the new North Dakota State Capitol was completed in 1934. Edward Patterson, a close friend of McKenzie, would later purchase the hotel. Patterson had constructed the adjacent Soo Hotel, also listed on the National Register, in 1906. The hotel was renamed the Patterson Hotel in 1927, shortly after the death of Alexander McKenzie.

The Bismarck station in Bismarck, North Dakota was built in 1900 by the Northern Pacific Railway. It is in Mission/Spanish Revival style and was designed by architects Reed & Stem. It "is notable for its Spanish mission-style architecture, a familiar mode in the Southwest and California but uncommon in the northern plains." After the Northern Pacific Railway and then Burlington Northern Railroad discontinued passenger service, Amtrak's North Coast Hiawatha used the station from 1971 until it was discontinued in 1979.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, as the Northern Pacific Railway Depot.The station underwent a renovation that was completed in 2018, and a brewery was opened in the building. The brewery closed in 2020, and the building is currently being renovated again into restaurant, office, and event space.

The Van Horn Hotel on N. 3rd St. in Bismarck, North Dakota, United States, was designed by architect Arthur W. Van Horn. It was built in 1916. It has also been known as the Prince Hotel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.Notables who have stayed there include Shirley Temple, Eleanor Roosevelt, General George C. Marshall, and Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.: 6 

The E. G. Patterson Building at 412–414 Main St. in Bismarck, North Dakota, United States, was built in 1905. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The building was designed by Milton Earl Beebe and is an example of Early Commercial architecture. The theater is now the Dakota Stage Playhouse and was previously the Capitol Theatre and the Cinema Theatre. In the 1970s the theater showed adult films. The theater was next to the Patterson Hotel from 1911 to the 1970s, said to be the most prominent hotel in Bismarck.

The U.S. Post Office and Courthouse in Bismarck, North Dakota, United States, was built during 1912–13 and expanded in 1937. It was designed by James Knox Taylor and includes Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals architecture and Second Renaissance Revival architecture. Also known as Federal Building, it served historically as a courthouse and as a post office. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.It is notable as one of the last works of James Knox Taylor, who was Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury from 1897 until 1912.It is a three-story, steel-framed building with reinforced concrete floors and a red tile roof that can be seen from far away to the south. It was approximately 100 feet (30 m) wide (on Broadway) by 64 feet (20 m) deep (on Third Street) when completed in 1913, then deepened to 115 feet (35 m) in 1937.

The Soo Hotel was later known as the Princess Hotel, The Patterson Hotel Annex, The Hotel Dakotan, Heritage Recovery Center, and Heritage Apartments. It is a historic building located on Fifth Street North in Bismarck, North Dakota, United States, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It was built by prominent businessman and political powerhouse Edward Patterson in 1906 as a second-class hotel to his other property, the high-class Northwestern Hotel. The four-floor, 76-room hotel was named after the Soo Line Railroad which had arrived in town in 1902 and whose depot was located several blocks away. It was briefly the tallest building in Bismarck.

The Bismarck Tribune Building on N. 4th St. in Bismarck, North Dakota was designed by architect George H. Shanley and was built in 1920. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1982.According to its NRHP nomination it is a "rare application" of Prairie School architecture in North Dakota.The editor, George Douglas Mann, recruited a Great Falls, Montana, designer to plan this flame resistant structure with substantial casing and floors, primary mud tile dividers, and Hebron pressed block outside. The famous Prairie Style configuration accentuates flat extents and joins enhancing brickwork with applied earthenware decoration with themes of adapted lights, blossoms, leaves, and lotus buds. Block header courses emphasize the pilasters that help rectangular spandrels between the first-and second-floor windows. A particular polychrome earthenware bas-help board over the fundamental passage recreates a work of art of priests rehearsing the printer's art on a hand press. The Bismarck Tribune Building has filled in as office space since the newspaper relocated its operations in 1981.

The Burleigh County Courthouse in Bismarck, North Dakota was designed in the Art Deco style by architect Ira Rush. It was built in 1931 and was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It is a three-story courthouse with a two-story office addition. It has aluminum spandrels.

The Downtown Bismarck Historic District is a 40-acre (16 ha) historic district in Bismarck, North Dakota that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. It includes work by architect Arthur Van Horn and others. The listing included 40 contributing buildings.

The United States District Court for the District of North Dakota (in case citations, D.N.D.) is the United States District Court or the Federal district court, whose jurisdiction is the state of North Dakota. The court is headquartered out of Bismarck at the William L. Guy Federal Building and has additional locations at Fargo, Grand Forks, and Minot. Appeals from the Court are heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit). The district was created in 1889, when the Dakota Territory was divided into North Dakota and South Dakota. The Grand Forks courts are located at the Ronald N. Davies Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. In 1921, a second temporary judgeship was authorized, however, this was never made permanent and the judgeship expired in 1928. In 1954, a second permanent judgeship was authorized, and the strength of the court has remained unchanged since. The United States Attorney's Office for the District of North Dakota represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court. As of December 12, 2022, the United States attorney for the District of North Dakota is Mac Schneider.

Bismarck (; from 1872 to 1873: Edwinton) is the capital of the U.S. state of North Dakota and the county seat of Burleigh County. It is the state's 2nd most populous city, after Fargo. The city's population was 73,622 in the 2020 census, while its metropolitan population was 133,626. In 2020, Forbes magazine ranked Bismarck as the seventh fastest-growing small city in the United States.Bismarck was founded by European-Americans in 1872 on the east bank of the Missouri River. It has been North Dakota's capital city since 1889, when the state was created from the Dakota Territory and admitted to the Union.Bismarck is across the river from Mandan, named after a Native American tribe of the area. The two cities comprise the core of the Bismarck–Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The North Dakota State Capitol is in central Bismarck. The state government employs more than 4,600 in the city. As a hub of retail and health care, Bismarck is the economic center of south-central North Dakota and north-central South Dakota.

The Bismarck Event Center (formerly Bismarck Civic Center) is a 10,100-seat multi-purpose facility located in Bismarck, North Dakota. It was known as the Bismarck Civic Center until September 2014. Ritterbush Brothers received an Award of Merit for the design from AIA North Dakota in 1970.The land was purchased from the Wachter family of Bismarck, who also donated land for parking lots adjacent to the civic center. The Wachters then developed the adjacent Kirkwood Mall on their land south of the arena.It was the home of the Dakota Wizards of the Continental Basketball Association and NBA Development League. It also hosted the 2002 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. For several years, the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) has hosted a Touring Pro Division (minor-league division, formerly known as the Challenger Tour) event at the Civic Center; in 2004, it was voted as the top PBR Challenger Tour venue. In 2017, the event center became the home to a new professional indoor football team in Champions Indoor Football called the Bismarck Bucks. The Bucks joined the Indoor Football League for the 2019 season.
