The Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon (abbreviated as: DBUC; Dutch: Hollandsche Burgher Vereeniging van Ceylon), known commonly as the Dutch Burgher Union (DBU), is an organisation of Dutch Burghers in Sri Lanka. It was established on 18 January 1908 by Richard Gerald Anthonisz.

The college was also known as University College, Ceylon; University College, Colombo; and Colombo University College. Its buildings and grounds are now occupied by the University of Colombo which is considered its successor.

The University of Colombo (informally Colombo University or UoC) is a public research university located primarily in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is the oldest institution of modern higher education in Sri Lanka. Specialised in the fields of natural, social, and applied sciences as well as mathematics, computer sciences, and law. It is ranked among the top 10 universities in South Asia.The University of Colombo was founded in 1921 as University College Colombo, affiliated to the University of London. Degrees were issued to its students from 1923 onwards. The university traces its roots to 1870 when the Ceylon Medical School was established. UoC has produced notable alumni in the fields of science, law, economics, business, literature, and politics.

The Colombo University Observatory is the astronomical observatory located at the University of Colombo. Formally the Colombo Observatory it is a permanently mounted telescope with its own observatory dome located on the university grounds next to Reid Avenue in Colombo. The observatory is used by the Mathematical and Astronomical Society.The telescope is a 12½-inch (32 cm) Newtonian reflector solidly fixed on a polar mount. This is housed in an observatory with a rotating hemispherical dome moving on rollers. Established in the 1920s, it was disused during the 1940s and 1950s after it was taken over by the RAF during World War II and damaged. It was put back into use in the early 1960s. The telescope was fully operational until the late 1980s when its components were stolen during the 1987–89 Insurrection. Since then attempts have been made for its restoration.

The Apostolic Nuncio is Archbishop Brian Udaigwe, who was named to the position by Pope Francis on 13 June 2020.The Apostolic Nunciature to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is the embassy of the Vatican City State which is a sovereign independent country and it also represents the Pope in his capacity as Head of the Universal Catholic church, with the rank of an embassy. The nuncio serves both as the ambassador of the Holy See to the President of Sri Lanka, and as delegate and point-of-contact between the Catholic hierarchy in Sri Lanka and the Pope.

E FM (88.3 FM) is a Colombo, Sri Lanka–based radio station. Tagged with the catchphrase "Your Lifestyle Station", E FM is one of the three radio channels (Shree FM and Ran FM) operated and managed by EAP Broadcasting Company Ltd., a subsidiary of the EAP Edirisinghe Group of Companies. E FM broadcasts live at 88.3 MHz and is also simulcasted in Kandy at 93.2 MHz.

Thurstan College (Sinhala: තර්ස්ටන් විද්‍යාලය) is a national school for boys in Colombo, Western Province, Sri Lanka, providing primary and secondary education. It is located in the Cinnamon Gardens neighbourhood of Colombo 7 near the University of Colombo and the Royal College Colombo. The college is regulated by the central government. Thurstan College has an enrollment of 3500+ students. It prepares students for examinations conducted by the Ministry of Education. Its facilities include science and computer laboratories and a library. The school has more than 30 clubs and societies. It is easily recognised by the sacred Nuga tree in the grounds. The college colours are blue, gold and red. The college motto is "lead me from darkness to light".
