Hale, Minneapolis

Nokomis Knoll Residential Historic District is a neighborhood of houses near Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 and features a number of homes built in popular revival architecture styles of the 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s. The styles include French and Italian Renaissance, Tudor Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, and Colonial Revival. There are also a few American Craftsman and bungalow style houses. Tudor Revival is the most prominent style in this district. Most of the homes were built during a nationwide housing boom of middle- and upper-middle-class house building. The homes also show the influence of increasing automobile ownership among the middle class, since most of the houses had individual garages built as standard amenities.

Nokomis is a community in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It takes its name from Lake Nokomis. It comprises eleven smaller neighborhoods.

Amazon Bookstore Cooperative was a feminist bookstore located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that operated from 1970 to 2012. It was the first lesbian/feminist bookstore in the U.S. The shop was named after the Amazons, a mythological tribe of fierce and independent women. In 1994 Amazon.com was founded and within a year, problems started for Amazon Bookstore. Terms of a lawsuit by Amazon bookstore resulted in a small settlement, and a requirement that Amazon Bookstore go by the name 'Amazon Bookstore Collective' to reduce confusion with Amazon.com.

Northrop is a neighborhood in the Nokomis community in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Its boundaries are 42nd Street to the north, Cedar Avenue to the east, Minnehaha Parkway to the south, and Chicago Avenue to the west. It shares a neighborhood organization with the Field and Regina neighborhoods.

Cottontail on the Trail (nicknamed the "Minnehaha Bunny") is a bronze sculpture in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The piece was commissioned as part of city's Art in Public Places program and was designed by Jeff Barber of Cannon Falls, Minnesota. The sculpture, which depicts an oddly proportioned cottontail rabbit, was permanently installed on Minnehaha Parkway in 2002. Cottontail on the Trail has been well received by residents of the surrounding area, who often decorate it seasonally or in response to current events.

The Arthur and Edith Lee House is a historic place located in the Field neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It was originally constructed in 1923. In the early 1930s, Arthur Lee and Edith Lee, an African-American couple, acquired ownership of the home, which came during a period of racial discrimination in housing deeds, and the house was located in a predominately White neighborhood. The Lee family endured violent threats from White neighbors and eventually moved out of the house in 1934 after several years of unrest. The home had renewed interest in the 2000s from scholars of racial discrimination in housing and it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Lake Nokomis is one of several lakes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The lake was previously named Lake Amelia in honor of Captain George Gooding's daughter, Amelia, in 1819. Its current name was adopted in 1910 to honor Nokomis, grandmother of Hiawatha. It is located in the southern part of the city, west of the Mississippi River and south of Lake Hiawatha. The lake is oval in shape, with a long axis running southwest to northeast. Two pathways circle the lake, a 2.7-mile (4.3 km) pedestrian trail and a 2.8-mile (4.5 km) bicycle trail. Because the lower part of the lake is crossed by Cedar Avenue running north-south, the impression from the ground is that the lake is shaped like an L. The lake has an area of 204 acres (0.83 km2).

Its boundaries are the Minnehaha Creek to the north, Chicago Avenue to the east, Diamond Lake Road and East 55th Street to the south, and Interstate 35W to the west. Page shares a neighborhood organization with the Hale and Diamond Lake neighborhoods. The neighborhood is named after the now demolished Page Elementary School, which was in turn named in honor of author and diplomat Walter Hines Page.

The 5-8 Club Tavern & Grill is a restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 1928 as a speakeasy, the eatery is one of two Minneapolis establishments that claim to have invented the Juicy Lucy cheeseburger in the 1950s, the other being Matt's Bar. The 5-8 Club also serves its Saucy Sally burger and other dishes including fried cheese curds and onion straws. The restaurant, which has been featured on several Travel Channel TV series, has three additional locations in Minnesota.

The neighborhood is bordered by East 46th Street on the north, Chicago Avenue on the east, Minnehaha Parkway on the south, and Interstate 35W on the west. Field shares a neighborhood organization with the Regina and Northrop neighborhoods. Field takes its name from a local school, which in turn was named for Eugene Field, a writer of children's poetry. The largely residential neighborhood is characterized by small, two-bedroom pre-1940s stucco, brick, and stone houses. Chicago Avenue is the main commercial thoroughfare. Field features the Arthur and Edith Lee House historic place.

It is bounded by Diamond Lake Road and 55th Street on the north, Cedar Avenue on the east, 62nd Street on the south, and Interstate 35W on the west. It has approximately 2233 households within its boundaries. The Diamond Lake neighborhood, together with Hale and Page, forms the HPDL.

Hiawatha Golf Course is a golf course adjacent to Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The golf course was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023 for its association with the African American community. The Minneapolis Park Board developed five golf courses in the first three decades of the 20th century, since golf was a relatively new sport at the time and interest was peaking. Black residents in Minneapolis were concentrated in a few neighborhoods, including Southside, so Hiawatha Golf Course became an important social and recreational center for that neighborhood.: 23
