El Paso Stanton Street Port of Entry

On 27 March 2023, a fire occurred at an immigration detention center in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, near the border with the United States. The fire killed 40 people and left 27 others seriously injured. According to Vice interviewees, prison officials demanded bribes from migrants to release them and avoid deportation. The fire was allegedly started by inmates when they set fire to their mattresses to protest their detention conditions and impending deportation. CCTV security footage obtained by the press shows INM personnel fleeing the spreading flames and smoke while leaving the detainees locked in their cell.

The El Paso Paso del Norte (PDN) Port of Entry is a crossing of the United States–Mexico border, connecting the U.S. city of El Paso, Texas with the Mexican city of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. It is among the busiest border crossings between the two countries: more than 10 million people enter the U.S. from Mexico each year at this location. The PDN Port of Entry is located at the Paso del Norte International Bridge, and is limited to northbound non-commercial traffic, although pedestrians may also cross the bridge in the southbound direction.Bridges between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez have existed at this location for over 250 years, and they have been rebuilt many times due to floods, expansion, and international treaties. The PDN is sometimes called the Santa Fe bridge, because its predecessor (prior to 1967) emptied traffic onto Santa Fe Street immediately to the west. Approximately 2,000 trains enter the U.S. each year on an adjacent rail bridge. Streetcar traffic also once entered the U.S. on the Paso del Norte Bridge, but that service ended in 1974.The PDN Port of Entry ranks second only to the San Ysidro Port of Entry in the number of pedestrians entering the U.S. from Mexico each year.

The Paso del Norte International Bridge is an international bridge which crosses the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) connecting the United States-Mexico border cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The bridge is also known as "Paso del Norte Bridge", "Santa Fe Street Bridge", "Puente Benito Juárez", "Puente Paso del Norte" and "Puente Juárez-Santa Fe". The Paso del Norte International Bridge is a four-lane bridge for northbound non-commercial traffic only. The bridge was constructed in 1967. The American side of the bridge is owned and operated by the City of El Paso.On March 26, 2019, dozens of illegal immigrants were captured by United States Customs and Border Protection agents, who had insufficient space for them in local holding facilities. So they erected chainlink fencing and concertina wire under the bridge to construct a "transitional shelter" to detain them. As of March 30, hundreds of immigrants were sleeping on dirt and rocks, with mylar blankets, portable toilets and plastic portable sinks.By mid-June, conditions had worsened, with between 100 and 150 detainees reporting most have been held for over a month, without being allowed to bathe or change clothing, in temperatures exceeding 100 °F (38 °C).

Lydia Patterson Institute is a Methodist Christian college-preparatory school located in El Paso, Texas, United States. Founded in 1913 it offers programs for Spanish-speaking children, primarily from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua to attend high school in the United States and attend a Methodist graduate university. All high school classes are taught in English, and the school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Chihuahuita (or Little Chihuahua) is a neighborhood in El Paso, Texas. It has also been known as the "First Ward." It is considered the oldest neighborhood in the city. It has also suffered through extreme poverty in its history. It is currently on the Most Endangered Historic Places list as compiled by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It is located on the border of the Rio Grande at the Mexico–United States border. For most of the twentieth century, the name Chihuahuita was used to refer to all of southern El Paso, often including El Segundo Barrio. In 1991, Chihuahuita was designated as a historic district by the city of El Paso.

El Segundo Barrio (Spanish for "the Second Neighborhood", and also known as South El Paso) is a historic Hispanic neighborhood in El Paso, Texas. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in El Paso. It was one of the main ports of entry into the United States from Mexico for many years, and became known as the "other Ellis Island" as a result.Segundo Barrio is well known for its murals and cultural character. In 2016, the area was placed on the Most Endangered Places in Texas list compiled by Preservation Texas. El Segundo Barrio shares much of its history with another southern neighborhood, Chihuahuita.

The Houchen Settlement House was founded in 1912 in El Segundo Barrio in El Paso, Texas. The settlement movement was a reformist social movement that began in the 1880s and peaked around the 1920s in England and the United States. Its goal was to bring the rich and the poor of society together in both physical proximity and social interconnectedness. Its main object was the establishment of "settlement houses" in poor urban areas, in which volunteer middle-class "settlement workers" would live, hoping to share knowledge and culture with, and alleviate the poverty of, their low-income neighbours. The settlement houses provided services such as daycare, education, and healthcare to improve the lives of the poor in these areas.

The State National Bank is a historic building in El Paso, Texas. It was built in 1921 for the State National Bank, El Paso's oldest bank founded four decades earlier. It was built on the site of a former building for the same bank completed in 1881, which was El Paso's "first real building." The 1921 building was designed by Trost & Trost, and its construction cost $165,000. With "the latest technological developments", it cost $250,000. The interior was a single lofty room with roof supported by steel girders that eliminated need for interior columns. The bank moved into the building in January 1922. It was expanded by renting adjacent property 10 years later, which was annexed permanently in 1942. It was further expanded to the south in 1948.The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since September 24, 1980.

The Alhambra Theatre, also known as the Palace Theatre, is a building in El Paso, Texas. Opened on August 1 1914, the building was designed by architect Henry C. Trost in the Spanish Colonial Revival style with a Moorish theme, preceding spread of the Moorish Revival style of the 1920s. The building cost $150,000. It was prepared to serve either as a playhouse for live theater or as a movie house, and included a large organ to be played with silent movies of the day.

The Richard Caples Building is a historic seven-story building in El Paso, Texas. It was built as a five-story for Richard Caples in 1910, and it was "the first reinforced concrete structure erected in El Paso." The fifth floor was leased to the Y.M.C.A. In 1915, the building was purchased by J.G. McGrady, who leased the basement and the first floor to F. W. Woolworth Company. Two years later, he built two more storys; they were designed by Trost & Trost. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since September 24, 1980.

The Popular Department Store is a historic building in El Paso, Texas. It was built in 1917 for The Popular, a chain of department stores founded by Adolph Schwartz in El Paso in 1902. His heirs inherited the building, and they sold it in 1995; it later became the Fallas Department Store. The building was designed in the Chicago School architectural style by Trost & Trost. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since September 24, 1980.
