Walter George Smith School

The George W. Childs School is a historic school building which is located in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was a facility of the School District of Philadelphia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

We the Youth is a mural by Keith Haring covering the west face of a private rowhouse in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was painted during a three-day workshop on 1, 2 and 3 September 1987. It is the only of Haring's collaborative public murals to remain in its original location. The mural was intended as a temporary placeholder until new row houses would eventually cover the wall of the mural.

George W. Childs Elementary School is a K-8 school located in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is part of the School District of Philadelphia, and the historic building it occupies previously housed the Jeremiah Nichols School and Norris S. Barratt Junior High School. The current school building was built in stages. The first building was designed by Henry deCourcy Richards in 1908. An expansion was built in 1926–1927 and was designed by Irwin T. Catharine. The Richards building is a three-story, three-bay, brick building on a raised basement in the Late Gothic Revival-style. The Catharine building is a four-story, seven-bay, brick building on a raised basement in the Art Deco-style.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. In 2010, the previous Childs school building was closed, and students were moved to the current location. In 2013 Walter G. Smith Elementary School closed, with students redirected to Childs. Therefore, by December of that year the student body numbered 800.

Developer John Longacre (owner of the South Philadelphia Taproom, American Sardine Bar, Brew, 2nd District, and Renewbold) dubbed the neighborhood "Newbold" in 2003. Longacre drew inspiration for the name from the original name of Hicks Street. Soon he formed the Newbold CDC and a civic association, which gave rise to other area civic groups.

The Philadelphia Free School also known as Philly Free School or PFS, is a Democratic Free School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philly Free School operates on the democratic education or Sudbury school model. The school opened in the fall of 2011 and offers a sliding scale tuition to students ages 4 to 19.Philadelphia Free School emphasizes critical thinking, personal responsibility, and democratic governance, rather than standardization and hierarchy.

David Landreth School is a historic school building located in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1889 after the original school caught fire (it had been on the nursery grounds of the D. Landreth Seed Company).It is a two-story, three-bay, brick building with a stone foundation in the Gothic Revival style. A three-story, nine-bay, yellow brick addition was built in 1928. It features a large corbelled brick cornice, sandstone sills and lintels, and three large brick chimneys with corbelled caps. The school was named after the founder of the D. Landreth Seed Company.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Southwest Center City (SWCC), also known as Graduate Hospital, is a neighborhood in South Philadelphia bordering Center City Philadelphia. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by South Street, on the south by Washington Avenue, on the west by the Schuylkill River, and on the east by Broad Street. It is an area adjacent to the Fitler Square and Rittenhouse Square neighborhoods to the north and Point Breeze to the south. Edwin M. Stanton School is an historic K-8 school located in the Southwest Center City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, within the Christian Street Historic District. It is part of the School District of Philadelphia. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Christian Street Historic District is an historic district located along Christian Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.: 5  It is also known as Black Doctors' Row.: 221  The narrow district extends approximately six city blocks, from the 1400 block of Christian Street to the intersection of Christian Street with 20th Street. Its width is one block on either side of Christian Street, extending to Montrose Street and Webster Street. It is within the area known as South Philadelphia and the neighborhood known as Graduate Hospital.As of 2021, the district included approximately 192 buildings, some of which themselves have historical significance. The district was originally proposed for permanent preservation in 2021.The Christian Street Historic District was at its heyday in the early 20th century when it was a center for homes, businesses, and cultural institutions of African-Americans, with many of its black residents among the city's most prominent. The district was at that time termed "Main Street for Philadelphia's Black Elite."The neighborhood was officially designated as an historic district by unanimous vote of the Philadelphia City Council in July 2022.

The Francis M. Drexel School was a historic school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Located along S. 16th Street, the school was designed by Joseph Anschutz and built under the direction of Charles O'Neill, Jr. The three-story brick building was built in a regular rectangular plan in the Victorian style of architecture, with three chimneys dominating its facade.: 2 The school was named for Francis Martin Drexel, whose son, banker and philanthropist Anthony J. Drexel, founded Drexel University two years after the construction of the school.

The Marian Anderson House is a historic home located in the Southwest Center City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built circa 1870 in the same neighborhood where opera singer and civil rights advocate Marian Anderson was born 27 years later, this two-story, brick rowhouse dwelling was designed in the Italianate style. Purchased by Anderson in 1924, the same year she became the first African-American concert artist to record spirituals for a major American recording company, she continued to reside here until 1943. The house is currently home to the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society.
