The Carinthian-Styrian Alps (in German Steirisch-Kärntnerische Alpen or Gurk-und Lavanttaler Alpen) are a mountain range in the eastern part of the Alps. They are located in Austria.

The Noric Alps (German: Norische Alpen) is a collective term denoting various mountain ranges of the Eastern Alps. The name derives from the ancient Noricum province of the Roman Empire on the territory of present-day Austria and the adjacent Bavarian and Slovenian area.

The Gurktal Alps (German: Gurktaler Alpen, Slovene: Krške Alpe) is a mountain range in the Central Eastern Alps in Austria which is named after the valley of the Gurk river. The range stretches west to Lake Millstatt and east to Neumarkter Sattel (north-northwest of Neumarkt in Steiermark). The highest peak is Eisenhut at 2,441m (8,009 ft).

Lake Turrach (German: Turracher See) is an Alpine lake at Turracher Höhe Pass, on the state border of Carinthia and Styria in Austria.

Turracher Höhe, also called Turracherhöhe, refers to a village, a pass across the Alps, and a countryside in the Gurktal Alps in Austria. The village and the Turracher Lake at the pass, which both share the same name, are separated by the border of the two federal states of Styria and Carinthia. Because of its distance to early settlement areas and its high location, the region was not settled until relatively late. In the 17th century, mining was started below the Turracherhöhe. The opening up of the top of the pass by a paved road did not occur until later. During the 20th century, the region was gradually developed for tourism. Efforts are being made to maintain the diversity of flora and fauna of the Turracherhöhe by means of landscape conservation areas and careful and nature-oriented extension of the tourist facilities.

The Rinsennock is a mountain in the Gurktal Alps in Austria. It is part of the Nock Mountains sub-range and located at the border of the state of Carinthia with Upper Styria, immediately west of Turracher Höhe Pass. The summit, at 2,334 metres above the Adriatic (7,657 ft), is a popular destination for hikers.

Reichenau (Austrian German pronunciation: [ˈraɪçənaʊ] ; Slovene: Rajnava) is a municipality in the district of Feldkirchen in the Austrian state of Carinthia.

Flattnitz Pass (el. 1,400 metres [4,593 ft]) is a high mountain pass in the Austrian Alps. The pass is located in the state of Carinthia, connecting Glödnitz in the Gurk valley with Stadl on the Mur river, beyond the border with Styria. The pass height comprises a dispersed settlement with a high-altitude sanatorium (Luftkurort) and an Alpine lake (Flattnitzer See). It is a popular destination for hikers and for cross-country skiers in winter. The pass was possibly known in Roman times, it was first mentioned in an 898 deed issued by the Carolingian emperor Arnulf. In 1173 the Gurk bishops had a Romanesque chapel erected, dedicated to St John the Baptist, which was rebuilt as a parish church with an adjacent hospice building about 1330. The bishops used Flattnitz (from Slovene: blato, "moss") as a summer residence. The pass height was devastated by invading Ottoman forces in 1478. In the 17th century, Flattnitz was a mining area for silver, iron ore, and lead.

Flattnitzer See, also known as Hemmasee, is a lake near Flattnitz Pass in the Gurktal Alps. It rests in the municipality of Glödnitz, in Carinthia, Austria.

Bad Kleinkirchheim is a municipality and spa town in the district of Spittal an der Drau, in Carinthia, Austria. Until the middle of the 20th century, agriculture was the dominant focus, but it is now a renowned spa and ski resort. Although records show people appreciating the area as a recreation area as early as the 11th century, and the first bathing guests arriving in the 17th century, it was only in the last few decades that Bad Kleinkirchheim began to move away from agriculture and focus on its potential for tourism.

Arriach is a municipality in the district of Villach-Land in the Austrian state of Carinthia.

Carinthia (German: Kärnten [ˈkɛʁntn̩] ; Slovene: Koroška [kɔˈɾóːʃka] , Italian: Carinzia) is the southernmost and least densely populated Austrian state, in the Eastern Alps, and is noted for its mountains and lakes. The main language is German. Its regional dialects belong to the Southern Bavarian group. Carinthian Slovene dialects, forms of a South Slavic language that predominated in the southeastern part of the region up to the first half of the 20th century, are now spoken by a small minority in the area. Carinthia's main industries are tourism, electronics, engineering, forestry, and agriculture.
