Kelham Hall

Kelham is a small village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire about 3 miles (4.8 km) northwest of Newark on a bend in the A617 road near its crossing of the River Trent. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 207.

St. Wilfrid's Church, Kelham is a parish church in the Church of England in Kelham, Nottinghamshire. The church is Grade I listed by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport as a building of outstanding architectural or historic interest.

The Newark Torc is a complete Iron Age gold alloy torc found by a metal detectorist on the outskirts of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, England, in February 2005.The torc is made from electrum, an alloy of gold, silver and copper, weighs 700 grammes (1.5 lbs) and is 20 cm in diameter. The body is formed from rolled gold alloy wires, which had then been plaited into eight thin ropes then twisted together. The terminals are ring-shaped and bear floral and point-work designs. The torc was probably made in Norfolk. It is closely similar to one found at Sedgeford, north Norfolk – so much so that one expert has suggested that they might have been made by the same craftsman. The torc had been buried in a pit, and as such is considered a hoarded item rather than a stray loss. The reason for its deposition is uncertain, although Jeremy Hill, head of research at the British Museum, speculated that it might have been buried "possibly as an offering to the gods." "[It is] probably the most significant find of Iron Age Celtic gold jewellery made in the last 50 years ... [it] shows an incredibly high level of technological skill in working the metal and a really high level of artistry. It is an extraordinary object." Jeremy Hill. The torc has been dated to between 250 and 50 BC, and is thought to have been buried in around 75 BC. The torc was found by Maurice Richardson, a tree surgeon, while he was metal detecting in a field. The torc was declared treasure trove in 2005 and purchased in 2006 for Newark's Millgate Museum, with significant grant aid from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.

Averham is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 187, increasing to 294 at the 2011 census (which included Staythorpe), however Averham alone reported 215 residents at the 2021 census. The village is just west of Newark-on-Trent. Staythorpe Power Station is south-west of the village.

Staythorpe C Power Station is a 1,735 MWe gas-fired power station at Staythorpe between Southwell and Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire, England, between the River Trent and Nottingham to Lincoln railway line. The station was handed over to the owner RWE from Alstom Power with full commercial operation being achieved in December 2010. The official opening ceremony attended by Charles Hendry, Minister of State took place on 9 May 2011.The £680 million plant is owned by the German energy company, RWE. It is the second largest Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station in the UK and has an overall efficiency in excess of 58%.

Little Carlton is a hamlet in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England, north-west of Newark-on-Trent. Little Carlton was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.

Kelham Road is a cricket ground in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1849, when the Newark played an All-England Eleven. In 1856, the ground hosted a its only first-class match when Nottinghamshire played an All-England Eleven. The ground is the home of Newark Ransome & Marles Cricket Club.

Bathley is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England, north-west of Newark-on-Trent. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 246. Bathley is recorded in the Domesday Book as Badeleie.As Bathley does not have a hall of any sort, the Crown Inn public house is used for family parties, christenings and funerals as well as Parish Council meetings. South Muskham is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England, close to the border with Lincolnshire. It is located west of the River Trent and the A1 road, 2 miles (3 km) north of Newark-upon-Trent. The parish includes the hamlet of Little Carlton. The population of the parish was 494 in the 2011 census.The village lies on the historic route of the A1 Great North Road. When the Newark Bypass was built in 1964, the old Great North Road through the village became the A6065. In 1989 the road south of the village became part of the A616, and the road through the village became the B6325. South of the village the old Great North Road passes over a causeway built in 1770 by John Smeaton, and then crosses the River Trent at Muskham Bridge. St Wilfrid's Church is a Grade I listed building. Parts of the church date back to the 13th century.

The River Devon is a tributary of the River Trent, which rises in Leicestershire and joins the Trent at Newark in Nottinghamshire, England. In its upper reaches, it supplies Knipton Reservoir, which was built to supply water to the Grantham Canal, and Belvoir Lakes, designed by Capability Brown. It passes under the Grantham Canal, and then through Bottesford, where it is spanned by five railway bridges, only one of which is still used for its original purpose. On the outskirts of Newark, it passes by two Civil War structures, and just before it joins the Trent it becomes navigable, with a marina located on the west bank. Its name is pronounced "Deevon", not as spelt.
