Saint Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary (Russian: Свято-Тихоновская духовная семинария) is an Orthodox Christian seminary located in South Canaan Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. It is one of three seminaries operated by the Orthodox Church in America, the others being St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, Yonkers, New York, and St. Herman's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kodiak, Alaska. It is named after Tikhon of Zadonsk.

South Canaan is a second-class township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The Moosic Mountains is a mountain range in Northeastern Pennsylvania that stretches from Scranton to Mount Pleasant Township, a distance of roughly 32 miles.The high point of the range is in Jefferson Township, at an elevation of 2,323 feet (708 meters) above sea level, which is the highest point in the Pocono Mountains and 27th-highest in Pennsylvania.

Varden Conservation Area is a Pennsylvania state park on 343 acres (139 ha) in Lake and South Canaan Townships, Wayne County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The conservation area is currently under development. The land was donated to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in December 2001 by Dr. Mead Shaffer a veterinarian and resident of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania in Delaware County. Dr. Shaffer stated his reason for donating the land, "Environmental education always has been a primary concern of mine. I trust this land will allow present and future generations to observe and study the diverse ecology found in the Varden Conservation Area." Varden Conservation Area is near the unincorporated village of Varden on Pennsylvania Route 296, east of the Lackawanna County line.A conservation area is different from a typical state park. Conservation areas have much less development on the lands than a state park. They are large tracts of land with few improvements, a lack of through roads and the recreational facilities are minimal. There is an effort to manage the resources with minimal development of the park. Other conservation areas in Pennsylvania are the Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area and the Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area both of which are in Dauphin County.

Northeastern Pennsylvania (N.E.P.A. or sometimes called Nepa) is a region of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania that includes the Pocono Mountains, the Endless Mountains, and the industrial cities of Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Hazleton, Nanticoke, and Carbondale. A portion of this region is located in the New York City metropolitan area. Recently, Pennsylvania tourism boards have described Northeastern Pennsylvania as Upstate Pennsylvania. Located in northeastern Pennsylvania, Lake Ariel was founded by settlers with the name of Jones, and was previously known as Jonestown. Following a name change, Lake Ariel became home to Lake Ariel Park, a major tourist destination for Pennsylvanians in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

WGMF (750 kHz) is a classic hits AM radio station broadcasting from Olyphant, Pennsylvania, serving the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. WGMF covers much of northeastern Pennsylvania, including Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Referred to as "Gem 99 and 100", WQOR is owned by Kevin Fitzgerald and Benjamin Smith, through licensee Geos Communications, LLC, owner of WGMM in Tunkhannock, WAZL in Nanticoke, and WGMF-FM in Dushore. WGMF broadcasts at 1.6 kilowatts during the daytime. Because it shares the same frequency as "clear channel" station WSB in Atlanta, WGMF broadcasts only during the daytime hours.

The United States Penitentiary, Canaan (USP Canaan) is a high-security United States federal prison for male inmates in northeastern Pennsylvania, with a satellite prison camp for minimum-security male inmates. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. USP Canaan is located in Canaan Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, 20 miles (32 km) east of Scranton and 134 miles (216 km) north of Philadelphia.

Waymart Wind Farm is the second largest wind farm in Pennsylvania, United States. It consists of 43 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines, with a total net capacity of 64.5 MW, "which is enough renewable energy to power more than 21,000 Pennsylvania homes." The project is located in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. The wind farm was developed by Atlantic Renewable Energy and constructed by NextEra Energy Resources. In January 2018 the project was sold to Huntsman Wind LLC. Energy from the wind farm is sold to Exelon for distribution in the Mid-Atlantic region.

State Correctional Institution – Waymart is a medium-security correctional facility located in Canaan Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, outside Waymart, in the extreme northeast corner of the commonwealth. SCI Waymart also houses a unit (Forensic Treatment Unit) for mentally disabled males needing psychiatric care and treatment. The facility is located on the site of the former Farview State Hospital.

Salem is a second-class township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The township's population was 4,271 at the time of the 2010 United States Census.
