The United States Penitentiary, Canaan (USP Canaan) is a high-security United States federal prison for male inmates in northeastern Pennsylvania, with a satellite prison camp for minimum-security male inmates. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. USP Canaan is located in Canaan Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, 20 miles (32 km) east of Scranton and 134 miles (216 km) north of Philadelphia.

Waymart Wind Farm is the second largest wind farm in Pennsylvania, United States. It consists of 43 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines, with a total net capacity of 64.5 MW, "which is enough renewable energy to power more than 21,000 Pennsylvania homes." The project is located in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. The wind farm was developed by Atlantic Renewable Energy and constructed by NextEra Energy Resources. In January 2018 the project was sold to Huntsman Wind LLC. Energy from the wind farm is sold to Exelon for distribution in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Carbondale Township is a township in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania and is respectively named for the adjoining city of Carbondale. The township is located near Scranton. The population was 1,126 at the 2020 census. The village of Childs is located in Carbondale township.

Simpson is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Fell Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is directly north of the city of Carbondale on Pennsylvania Route 171. As of the 2010 census the population of Simpson was 1,275.Simpson was settled in 1818 and organized in 1845. It is named after Clarence D. Simpson, who was one of the large independent coal magnates in the Northern Anthracite Region. Early industries included trapping, tanning and lumbering. Later, coal mining and railroading became dominant professions. The coal miners were often immigrants from Russia, Poland, and Slovakia. Local businesses of the past include Fell Brewing Co., makers of Pennsylvania Pioneer Beer, Mirtz Premium Ale and Fell Porter. The Klotz Throwing Company and Empire Silk Mill merged to become General Textile Mills or Gentex, another important local business. To these jobs and new quarters, working men brought their families. Many churches and schools were built by these new, proud, industrious Americans. The crowning sports achievement came in 1946 when the Fell High School basketball team won the state championship. The final class graduated from Fell High School in 1975 when a merger formed the Carbondale Area District.

Wilson Creek (also known as Elk Creek) is a tributary of the Lackawanna River in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 3.7 miles (6.0 km) long and flows through Fell Township. The watershed of the creek has an area of 3.82 square miles (9.9 km2). The creek is impaired by metals and pH from abandoned mine drainage. Some reaches of it also experience total flow loss. There are three discharges of acid mine drainage entering the creek: the Upper Wilson Outfall, the Lower Wilson Outfall, and the Molensky Slope Outfall. The watershed of the creek is in the Appalachian Mountain section of the Ridge and Valley physiographic province. The main rock types in the watershed are interbedded sedimentary rock and sandstone. The creek flows past areas of disturbed mining land. Wilson Creek is a first-order stream with a relatively narrow watershed. The watershed is mostly forested, with the upper reaches being largely undeveloped. Other land uses include abandoned mine lands, developed lands, and open fields. Various coal mines, breakers, and collieries historically existed in the creek's vicinity. Additionally, a number of bridges have been constructed across the creek. Wilson Creek is designated as a Coldwater Fishery and a Migratory Fishery. Wild trout naturally reproduce in the creek, but it has a low concentration of macroinvertebrates, as of the early 1990s. A possible greenway/trail along the creek could provide a link between the communities of Simpson and Richmondale.

The station operates on a frequency of 1440 kHz with 5,000 watts daytime and 37 Watts nighttime with a non-directional antenna. Saint Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary (Russian: Свято-Тихоновская духовная семинария) is an Orthodox Christian seminary located in South Canaan Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. It is one of three seminaries operated by the Orthodox Church in America, the others being St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, Yonkers, New York, and St. Herman's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kodiak, Alaska. It is named after Tikhon of Zadonsk.

Coal Brook is a tributary of the Lackawanna River in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 2.2 miles (3.5 km) long and flows through Fell Township and Carbondale. The watershed of the stream has an area of 1.93 square miles (5.0 km2). The stream experiences flow loss and is impaired by flow alterations and metals. Most of its length is heavily impacted by past mining and the lower reaches are in an underground culvert. The Coal Brook Colliery was historically in the stream's watershed. Coal Brook is a first-order stream and is designated as a Coldwater Fishery and a Migratory Fishery.

Rogers Brook (also known as Roger's Creek) is a tributary of the Lackawanna River in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 1.8 miles (2.9 km) long and flows through Clinton Township. The stream has one unnamed tributary. The watershed of Rogers Brook drains part of the Moosic Mountains Ridge. The surficial geology in the stream's vicinity mainly consists of Wisconsinan Till, surface mining land, and bedrock containing sandstone and shale.
