The siege of Brundisium was an early military confrontation of Caesar's Civil War. Taking place in March 49 BC, it saw the forces of Gaius Julius Caesar's Populares besiege the Italian city of Brundisium on the coast of the Adriatic Sea which was held by a force of Optimates under the command of Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus. After a series of brief skirmishes, during which Caesar tried to blockade the harbour, Pompey abandoned the city and managed to evacuate his men across the Adriatic to Epirus. Pompey's retreat meant that Caesar had full control over the Italian Peninsula, with no way to pursue Pompey's forces in the east he instead decided to head west to confront the legions Pompey had stationed in Hispania.

Brindisi (US: BRIN-diz-ee, BREEN-, Italian: [ˈbrindizi] ) is a city in the region of Apulia in southern Italy, the capital of the province of Brindisi, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Historically, the city has played an important role in trade and culture, due to its strategic position on the Italian Peninsula and its natural port on the Adriatic Sea. The city remains a major port for trade with Greece and the Middle East. Its industries include agriculture, chemical works, and the generation of electricity. The city of Brindisi was the provisional government seat of the Kingdom of Italy from September 1943 to February 1944.

Brindisi railway station (IATA: BQD) (Italian: Stazione di Brindisi) is the main station serving the city and comune of Brindisi, in the region of Apulia, southern Italy. Opened in 1865, it forms part of the Adriatic Railway (Ancona–Lecce), and is also a junction for, and terminus of, the Taranto–Brindisi railway. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). However, the commercial area of the passenger building is managed by Centostazioni. Train services are operated on behalf of Trenitalia. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy's state-owned rail company.

PalaPentassuglia, or PalaElio, is an indoor arena that is located in Brindisi, Italy. The arena's full name is Palazzetto dello Sport "Elio Pentassuglia". The arena is named in honor or of the Italian basketball player and basketball coach Elio Pentassuglia. The arena has mainly been used to host volleyball, basketball, boxing, fencing, and gymnastics. The current capacity of the arena for basketball games is 3,534.

The Nuovo Teatro Giuseppe Verdi is a theatre in Brindisi, Italy, which opened on December 20, 2006. Stefano Miceli became chairman of the theatre foundation in 2022.

The Archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostium (Latin: Archidioecesis Brundusina-Ostunensis) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in Apulia, has carried its present name since 1986. It is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Lecce. The historical archdiocese of Brindisi was promoted from a diocese in the tenth century. The territory of the diocese of Ostuni was added to it in 1821. The archdiocese lost its status as metropolitan see in 1980.

Castello a Mare or Castellammare (pronounced [kaˌstɛllamˈmaːre]) is an ancient fortress that guarded the entrance to the port at Palermo in La Cala. Extensive remains are visible, some of which are open to the public. There is a Norman keep, a fortified gate or entrance, and remains of a sophisticated Renaissance star-shaped defence.
