Killanny Geraldines are a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football team from Killanny parish, County Monaghan, Ireland. The club was founded in 1889. They have never won the Monaghan Senior Football Championship to date but have been runners-up on 3 occasions. Killanny have a senior team and Minor, U-16, U-14, U-13, U-12, U-10 and U-9 teams. These are very promising juvenile teams. The senior squad are currently in the Senior Football League in Monaghan. The minor team have recently reached the club's first Division 1 championship final since 1976 and successfully brought Fergal O'Hanlon to Killanny.

The townland of Killany, which can also be spelled Killanny or Killaney, lies within County Louth, and contains the old St. Ultan's Killanny Parish church and graveyard. The main Dublin-Derry road passes through Killanny. Several small lakes are to be found throughout the parish and the soil quality is superior to that of the north of Carrickmacross, reflecting the underlying limestone rock.

Inniskeen Grattans Gaelic Athletic Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, based in Inniskeen, County Monaghan, Ireland. The club participates in both Gaelic football and hurling competitions organized by Monaghan GAA county board. In 2010, the club won its first ever Monaghan Senior Hurling Championship title.

Founded in 1959, the club's colours are white and red (white jersey with red hoop). The village is located about 17 kilometres (11 mi) from Dundalk, 11 km (7 mi) from Carrickmacross, and 5 km (3 mi) from Crossmaglen. Seven townlands of this Roman Catholic Diocese of Clogher parish lie within County Louth.

The Burning of Wildgoose Lodge was an arson and murder attack on Wildgoose Lodge, County Louth, Ireland, on the night of 29–30 October 1816, in which eight occupants were killed, including an infant aged five months. The house was near the County Monaghan border, in the townland of Reaghstown, civil parish of Philipstown, barony of Ardee. Eighteen men were executed for the crime, many of them innocent. The event inspired an 1830 short story by William Carleton (1794–1869) and the circumstances have been the subject of historical and political debate.

Carrickmacross railway station was on the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) in the Republic of Ireland. The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) opened the station on 31 July 1886. It closed on 10 March 1947. The station building and platform have since been demolished, but the engine house, station house, water tower and a number of sheds remain. The former stationmasters house is also fully intact now used as a domestic residence.

Westerns GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that was founded in 1951 and fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. The club is based in the parish of Reaghstown, close to the town of Ardee and the Louth/Monaghan border. Westerns have reached the final of the Louth Junior Football Championship four times, in each case being unsuccessful in winning the Christy Bellew Cup.As of 2023, the club competes in the Junior Championship and Division 3B of the county football Leagues. Anthony Durnin is the manager of the senior team.
