The Forest Glen Annex is a 136-acre (0.55 km2) U.S. Army installation in the Forest Glen Park neighborhood of Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. It is situated between Brookville Road and Linden Lane. Since 1999, the Annex has been the site of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC), along with smaller units. The Forest Glen property was acquired by the Army during the World War II era, and was formerly known as the “Walter Reed Forest Glen Annex”, a branch of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington, DC.

The Pilot Bioproduction Facility of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is a Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) facility whose mission is to perform vaccine production on a pilot scale. The facility produces pre-license Phase I vaccine candidates under cGMP conditions using both bacterial and viral based technology. It is located at the Forest Glen Annex of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. Its business methodology is to work with government agencies through interagency agreements and with private companies through CRADAs (Cooperative Research and Development Agreements) in order to produce vaccine candidates. Its manufacturing capabilities include bacterial and viral seed banking, fermentation, purification (bacterial and viral proteins), and aseptic filling. The facility can perform whole campaigns from beginning to end or any individual function listed above under GMP conditions. The facility also has the capability to perform different viral titer assays on a contracted basis. The Facility has a Type V Facility Master File on file with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

National Park Seminary — later called National Park College — was a private girls' school open from 1894 to 1942. Located in Forest Glen Park, Maryland, its name alludes to nearby Rock Creek Park. The historic campus is to be preserved as the center of a new housing development.

The Walter Reed Tropical Medicine Course (now called 'Operational Clinical Infectious Disease' Course ) at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is one of the many Tropical Medicine Training Courses available in the US and worldwide (see Tropical medicine). It is an intensive 5-day course and a 3-day short course, created to familiarize students with tropical diseases they may encounter overseas. The course is open to Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, ESO, 18D, or other medical personnel. The course is run by the military and designed for personnel of the US Military (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force) and several other US government agencies.

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is the largest biomedical research facility administered by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The institute is centered at the Forest Glen Annex, in the Forest Glen Park part of the unincorporated Silver Spring urban area in Maryland just north of Washington, DC, but it is a subordinate unit of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC), headquartered at nearby Fort Detrick, Maryland. At Forest Glen, the WRAIR has shared a laboratory and administrative facility — the Sen Daniel K. Inouye Building, also known as Building 503 — with the Naval Medical Research Center since 1999. The Institute takes its name from Major Walter Reed, MD (1851–1902), the Army physician who, in 1901, led the team that confirmed the theory that yellow fever is transmitted by a particular mosquito species, rather than by direct contact. Today, the WRAIR fosters and performs biomedical research for the DoD and the US Army. It has recently developed two modern "Centers of Excellence" in the fields of military psychiatry/neuroscience and infectious disease research. The Centers focus, respectively, on soldier fitness, brain injury, and sleep management and in the development of vaccines and drugs for prevention and treatment of such diseases as malaria, HIV/AIDS, dengue fever, wound infections, leishmaniasis, enteric diseases.

Forest Glen Park is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, Maryland and a residential neighborhood within the Silver Spring census-designated place. The community is adjacent to Rock Creek, Rock Creek Regional Park, and to the United States Army's Forest Glen Annex. Forest Glen Park and the Forest Inn at the nearby National Park Seminary were developed in the 1880s, when the area was developed by the Forest Glen Improvement Company. The community was laid out in 1887 as one of Montgomery County's first residential subdivisions. It was developed due to the growth of Washington, D.C. and its proximity to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Metropolitan Branch. Forest Glen Park initially consisted of summer homes and cottages centered around the Forest Inn. Later, Victorian and early to mid-20th-century residences were developed. The Forest Inn became part of the National Park Seminary in 1894, which became the National Park College in 1937. The college was acquired by the U.S. Army in 1942, after which the seminary property became part of the Forest Glen Annex. In 2004, the National Park Seminary was developed into a residential complex.

Lyttonsville is a light rail station that is currently under construction in the Lyttonsville neighborhood of Silver Spring, Maryland. It will be part of the Purple Line in Maryland. The station will be located at Lyttonsville Place.

WDDN-LD (channel 23) is a low-power religious television station in Washington, D.C., owned and operated by the Daystar Television Network. The station's transmitter is located on Brookville Road in Silver Spring, Maryland.

WQOF (1260 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Washington, D.C., and serving the Washington metro area. The station is owned and operated by Relevant Radio and broadcasts its nationally syndicated Catholic talk and teaching programming. WQOF operates with 35,000 watts during the day and 5,000 watts at night. Its transmitter is off Brookville Road in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Anacostia Riverwalk Trail is a multi-use trail system in Washington, DC, which, when complete, will be ~25 miles long, spanning both sides of the Anacostia River, the Washington Channel waterfront, and projecting into neighborhoods away from the Anacostia. It has more recently been branded as part of a larger Anacostia Riverwalk Trail Network which includes an additional 8 segments and 15 miles of trail. On the north end it connects to the Anacostia Tributary Trail System; on the south end it will connect to the Oxon Hill Farm Trail and on the west it connects to the Rock Creek Park Trail and the 14th Street Bridge. Of the 19 planned segments, 14 are complete for a combined total of 16 miles.

The Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) is a 7.04-mile (11.33 km), shared-use rail trail that runs from Georgetown in Washington, D.C., to Bethesda, Maryland. An extension of the trail from Bethesda to Silver Spring along a route formerly known as the Georgetown Branch Trail is being built as part of the Purple Line light rail project. The Capital Crescent Trail, one of the most heavily used rail trails in the United States, serves more than 1 million walkers, joggers, bikers, skateboarders and rollerbladers each year. In 2005, it was named one of the "21 great places that show how transportation can enliven a community" by The Project for Public Spaces.

The Talbot Avenue bridge in Montgomery County, Maryland, was a historic one-lane metal girder bridge that connected the neighborhood of Lyttonsville to downtown Silver Spring. Built in 1918 and dismantled in 2019, the bridge had historic value as a connection from an antebellum community founded by a free Black laborer to neighborhoods where for decades Black people were allowed to work, but not live.As of 2022, its main span is in storage with plans to display it along the Georgetown Branch Trail.
