Dundee West is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system. The constituency was created for the 1950 general election, when the two-seat Dundee constituency was split into two single seat constituencies: Dundee East and Dundee West. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to boundary changes, gaining further parts of the Dundee City council area. As a consequence, it will be renamed Dundee Central, to be first contested at the next general election.

The Royal Dundee Liff Hospital, previously known as Dundee Lunatic Asylum and Dundee Royal Lunatic Asylum, was a mental health facility originally established in 1812 in Dundee, Scotland. It was originally located in premises in Albert Street Dundee, but later moved out of the town to new buildings in the nearby parish of Liff and Benvie. Buildings at Liff included Greystanes House, which was the main building, and, Gowrie House, which was the private patients' facility. Both Grade B listed buildings.

Liff is a village in Angus, Scotland, situated 4+1⁄2 miles (7 kilometres) west-northwest of Dundee on a south-facing slope two miles (three kilometres) north of the River Tay. It had a population of 568 in 2011. Surrounded by farmland, it has been described as 'haunted by wood pigeons and the scent of wild garlic' and having a 'wonderful view over the firth [of Tay]'. One-half mile (800 metres) east lies the site of the former Royal Dundee Liff Hospital, now given over to private housing. Further east lie Camperdown House and Park. One-half mile (800 metres) south is House of Gray, a large eighteenth-century mansion house in the neoclassical style, currently standing empty. The village contains twelve listed buildings, with others nearby. For several centuries the name Liff denoted a large area, not a village. It comprised the parish of Liff together with its united parishes of Benvie, Invergowrie, Logie, and Lochee, and so included substantial parts of the city of Dundee. The village around the church was known as Kirkton of Liff or simply the Kirkton.An ancient site in the village called Hurly Hawkin was regarded for several centuries as a palace of King Alexander I.The placename features in the title of a bestselling book by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd, The Meaning of Liff. It is defined there as 'a book, the contents of which are totally belied by its cover'.

Dronley railway station served the village of Dronley, Angus, Scotland from 1860 to 1955 on the Dundee and Newtyle Railway.

Birkhill and neighbouring Muirhead are two small villages in Angus, just to the west of Dundee, Scotland.

Fowlis Castle is situated five miles north-west of Dundee, Scotland, in the hamlet of Fowlis. It is a tower house dating from the seventeenth century. It was held by the Maule family and then by the Mortimers before coming to the Gray family in 1337. Sir Alexander Gray of Broxmouth was made Lord Gray of Fowlis. The castle is currently occupied as a farm house, and is a category B listed building.On Monday 3 May 1598 the brother of Anne of Denmark, the Duke of Holstein, came to Fowlis for dinner during his progress. Patrick Gray, 5th Lord Gray was ordered by James VI of Scotland to meet him six miles from the castle.

Benvie, is a hamlet and former parish and feudal barony in Angus, Scotland. The hamlet is situated on the Invergowrie Burn, northwest of Dundee, surrounded by agricultural land. The parish was joined with the parish of Liff in 1758. The former parish church is in ruins and a Pictish cross-slab of the 9th Century stood in the churchyard. The feudal barony of Benvie was held by the Valognes family from the 12th century, until passing by the heiress Christina to the Maule family, in the 13th century.

Auchterhouse is a village, community, and civil parish in the Scottish council area of Angus, located 7.3 miles (11.7 km) north west of Dundee, 9.5 miles (15.3 km) south east of Alyth and 14.9 miles (24.0 km) south west of Forfar. It lies on the southern edge of the Sidlaw Hills, below Auchterhouse Hill, 1,398 feet (426 m) high. The parish, which is coterminous with the community, had a population of 520 in 2001. The village, formerly known as Milltown of Auchterhouse, straddles the B954 Muirhead to Newtyle road. About 1.0 mile (1.6 km) east lies the larger village of Kirkton of Auchterhouse, where the church and school are located. Singer Billy MacKenzie lived in the village from 1991 until his death in 1997. Kirkton, in Auchterhouse, was the subject of the painting 'Sidlaw Village, Winter' by James MacIntosh Patrick.

Camperdown Country Park, often known as just Camperdown Park, is a public park in the Camperdown area of Dundee, Scotland. The park comprises the former grounds of Camperdown House, a 19th-century mansion, which was bought by the city in 1946. Camperdown Park is home to a wildlife centre and recreational facilities. It is the largest park in Dundee, stretching to 400 acres (1.6 km2). Over 190 species of tree are found in the park.Camperdown House is the largest Greek Revival house remaining in Scotland. It is protected as a Category A listed building, and the park is included on the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant parks.

Auchterhouse railway station served the village of Auchterhouse in the Scottish county of Angus. Services were provided by the Dundee and Newtyle Railway. The first station of the name had to be moved in 1860 when the line was realigned to avoid an incline.

Camperdown is an area of Dundee, Scotland, best known for Camperdown Park, which is the largest park in the city. The name is Dutch in origin, being the English version of Kamperduin, a village of the North Holland province (north of Haarlem) on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands. This is because Adam Duncan (1 July 1731 – 4 August 1804), defeated the Dutch fleet off there on 11 October 1797 in the Battle of Camperdown. His home, Camperdown House, was in turn named after this, and then gave its name to the area. The Dundee Ice Arena is located in the area, on the north side of the Kingsway (A90) ring road. If completed according to 2022 plans (revised in 2023), Dundee F.C.'s new stadium to replace Dens Park would also be sited there.

Gowrie Park is a residential area of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom. Sandwiched between Menzieshill and Dundee Technology Park, it is located in the western edge of the city. The Gowrie Park suburb was developed by local builders Bett Brothers in the 1970 and 80s and all homes are all privately owned. The streets all have names from places in the western Highlands of Scotland. Circumventing Gowrie Park is a cycle path, where the railway line to Lochee ran. At the South Road/Mallaig Avenue roundabout, some of the old Liff Station buildings (which closed around 1967) stand. The path of the railway can clearly be seen from above on Google Earth running directly behind Applecross Gardens and Peterburn Terrace. The cycle path (former rail line) is part of the Dundee green route which provides access to the Technology Park, Ninewells Hospital, the Kingsway dual carriageway to the west and Charleston, a sports centre and shops to the east. The majority of the children who live in Gowrie Park attend Tayview Primary School then go on to Harris Academy. The area is within walking distance of local shops and Ninewells Hospital. There are also regular bus routes through the area. The area is included in the Lochee council ward, yet is several miles from Lochee. The Councillors are Alan Ross, Roisin Smith, (Scottish National Party), Charlie Malone, and Michael Marra, (Labour).
