The Amsterdams Lyceum is a Dutch secondary school combining gymnasium and atheneum. Both school types prepare students to go to university. It was established in 1917. The Amsterdams Lyceum has around 1100 students, most of whom are from Amsterdam, but small numbers from outer municipalities such as Amstelveen and Badhoevedorp also find their way to this school.

Restaurant De Graaf is a defunct restaurant in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in both 1990 and 1991.Owner and head chef was Harry de Graaf.The restaurant was closed down due to a subsiding kitchen. Renovation proved to be too costly, so closure was the only reasonable choice.

The Hilton Amsterdam is a historic hotel in Apollobuurt, in the Oud-Zuid district of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. It is located at Apollolaan 138 along the Noorder Amstelkanaal, a canal connected to the Amstel river. The hotel opened in 1962 as the Amsterdam Hilton, part of the Hilton Hotels chain. It is known for John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Bed-In" for peace which was staged in 1969 to protest the Vietnam War.

Amsterdam-Zuid (Amsterdam South) is a borough (stadsdeel) of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The borough was formed in 2010 as a merger of the former boroughs Oud-Zuid and Zuideramstel. The borough has almost 138,000 inhabitants (2013). With 8,500 homes per square kilometer, it is one of the most densely populated boroughs of Amsterdam. It has the highest income per household of all boroughs in Amsterdam.

The Vondelpark is a public urban park of 47 hectares (120 acres) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is part of the borough of Amsterdam-Zuid and situated west from the Leidseplein and the Museumplein. The park was opened in 1865 and originally named Nieuwe Park (English: New Park), but later renamed Vondelpark, after the 17th-century playwright and poet Joost van den Vondel. The park has around 10 million visitors annually. Within the park is an open-air theatre, a playground and several food service facilities.

The Oude Stadion (Old Stadium), officially known as Het Nederlandsch Sportpark (The Dutch Sports Park), and colloquially known as the Stadion (until 1928), was a multi-purpose sports stadium located in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The stadium was built after the design by Harry Elte, with which he had won the contest for a national stadium in 1912. The stadium was completed in 1914. For some time it was the only stadium with brick stands in the country. Prior to the construction of the Olympic Stadium used for the 1928 Summer Olympics, it was the primary stadium used for the city until the 1928 Games. This was to the fact that the stadium could not handle track running and track cycling events though it could accommodate football games, seating 29,000. The addition of running lanes and a cycling track would have reduced the capacity to 17,000. Despite this, the old stadium did host some of the field hockey and football events for the 1928 Games. The stadium was demolished in 1929 to make way for the projected housing, part of Hendrik Petrus Berlage's Plan Zuid. The area is still known as Stadionbuurt, after the Old Stadium.

Saint Ignatius Gymnasium (Dutch: St. Ignatiusgymnasium) is one of the five categorial gymnasia (a type of school) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Together with the Vossius Gymnasium, the Barlaeus Gymnasium and Cygnus Gymnasium it is among the most prestigious schools in Amsterdam. Ignatius is located in the Jan van Eijckstraat in the affluent 'Old South' district of Amsterdam.It is one of the few Catholic gymnasiums in the Netherlands, founded in 1895. Originally a Jesuit school, it is named after the founder of the Jesuit Order Ignatius of Loyola. The school is fairly small and has a student population of about 900 with 70 staff.

The 1928 Summer Olympics saw the third field hockey tournament at Olympics. All games took place either in the new Olympisch Stadion or in the nearby Old Stadion. The field hockey tournament was held (together with football) in the first part of this Olympic games. All matches were played between Thursday, May 17 and Saturday, May 26, 1928.The entry rules allowed one team from each country, with 22 players per team. The "Fédération Internationale de Hockey" defined the amateur status as follows: An amateur is one who has never obtained any profit by practicing the sport, neither directly or indirectly. If a player or an official accepts from club, association, or federation an amount exceeding what is strictly necessary for traveling and hotel expenses, such an amount will be regarded as profit. Only a men's competition occurred that year, and nine nations competed: Czechoslovakia withdrew before the draw.

Restaurant De Kersentuin is a restaurant in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1985 and retained that rating until 1992.Gault Millau awarded the restaurant 13 out of 20 points.The restaurant was famous not only because of the Michelin star, but also because it belonged to the front runners of the nouvelle cuisine. In 2003, Sistermans admitted that he and Joop Braakhekke did not understand the real nouvelle cuisine.The present head chef is Michel van Dijk. Former head chefs are: Jon Sistermans (1980-1994), Rudolf Bos (1994-1997), Guus Vredenburg (1997-2000), Michel van der Kroft (2000-2006) and Marcel de Leeuw (2006-2011)Joop Braakhekke (1980-1993) came to fame in De Kersentuin, but was not the head chef. He acted as restaurant-manager and Maître d'hôtel, until fired in 1993.Restaurant De Kersentuin is housed in the Garden Hotel, formerly part of the Dikker & Thijs Group and now part of the Bilderberg Group.In 2004, the whole Queens Moat Houses, parent company of the Bilderberg Group, was sold to "Whitehall", part of Goldman Sachs.

GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 16.0 out of 20 points.Ron Blaauw was a member of Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise, but left in 2011 due to lack of timeThe restaurant was originally located in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. In 2011, it moved to Amsterdam.On 27 March 2013, Ron Blaauw announced that he would close his eponymous restaurant on 30 March and open RON Gastrobar on the same location on 4 April.
