Cargan railway station

Cargan (from Irish an Carraigín, meaning 'the small rock') is a hamlet and townland in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies at the foot of Slievenanee in Glenravel – locally known as "The Tenth Glen" along with the more widely known nine Glens of Antrim. It is part of Mid and East Antrim district. It had a population of 588 people (223 households) in the 2011 Census. (2001 Census: 411 people)

North Antrim (Irish: Aontroim Thuaidh, Ulster Scots: North Anthrim) is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Assembly, 1973. It usually shares boundaries with the North Antrim UK Parliament constituency, however the boundaries of the two constituencies were slightly different from 1983 to 1986 as the Assembly boundaries had not caught up with Parliamentary boundary changes. In 1996 members of the Northern Ireland Forum were elected from the newly drawn Parliamentary constituencies but the 51st Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected in 1992 under the 1983–95 constituency boundaries, was still in session. However the boundaries of North Antrim were not changed in the 1996–1997 redistribution. Members were elected from the constituency to the 1975 Constitutional Convention, the 1982 Assembly, the 1996 Forum and then to the current Assembly from 1998. Newtowncrommelin (Irish: Baile Nua Chromlain) is a small village and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies 8 miles north-northeast of Ballymena and is in the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area. The village of Newtowncrommelin was founded in the townland of Skerry (from Irish An Sceire, meaning 'rocky hill') (now the townlands of Skerry West and Skerry East). Ballymena, Cargan and Martinstown can be viewed from atop Skerry Rock, which is accessible through private land, alongside the back of the Skerry Inn. Most of the housing developments are situated along the Skerry East, Skerry West, Windy Gap, Tullykittagh and Old Cushendun Roads.

Antrim was a county constituency of the Parliament of Northern Ireland from 1921 to 1929. It returned seven MPs, using proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.

Martinstown (Irish: Baile Uí Mháirtín) is a small village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Located 6 miles from Ballymena, it is situated in Glenravel, locally known as "The Tenth Glen", alongside the widely known nine Glens of Antrim. It lies within the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area. It had a population of 345 people (108 households) in the 2011 Census. (2001 Census: 285 people) On 19 May 1922, the Irish Republican Army attacked Martinstown Royal Irish Constabulary barracks with gunfire and grenades, sparking a battle. They also ambushed a group of reinforcements, killing a Special Constable.

Knockanally railway station, later known as Martinstown railway station was on the Ballymena, Cushendall and Red Bay Railway which ran from Ballymena to Retreat in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Altnahinch Dam is a large dam located near Loughguile, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is situated on the edge of Slieveanorra Forest in the southern uplands of Glenbush and was constructed in 1967 using stone quarried from the newly founded Corkey Quarry almost 3 miles away. The reservoir is fed from a number of tributaries in the greater Glenbush area, Altnahinch Burn and more famously the River Bush itself which flows from the top of Glenbush, through the reservoir and eventually into the sea at Portballintrae. A little known fact is that there are 15 road Bridge crossings over the River Bush from it birthplace in Glenbush above the Altnahinch Reservoir and the point where it meets the sea in Bushmills.

Broughshane ( brə-SHAYN, formerly spelt Brughshane, from Irish Bruach Sheáin) is a large village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is 3.5 miles (5.6 km) northeast of Ballymena and 13.8 miles (22.2 km) north of Antrim, on the A42 road. It is part of Mid and East Antrim District Council and had a population of 2,879 people in the 2011 Census. Its name comes from the Irish for "Shane's dwelling", and seemingly refers to a castle of Shane mac Brian O'Neill, ruler of the Gaelic territory of Lower Clannaboy from 1595 to 1617, which formerly stood on the north side of the village street. The quaint pub, The Thatch Inn, has a thatched roof and is a Grade B+ listed building. Broughshane is known as the 'Garden Village of Ulster' with the motto 'People, Plants and Pride growing Together'. In 2018 the village won Channel Four's 'UK Village of the Year'. It has won Ulster in Bloom, Britain in Bloom and Entente Florale (Europe in Bloom). In 2007 and again in 2012, the village won 'Champion of Champions' award in the Britain in Bloom competition. It has also won the All Ireland Tidy Town Award. Volunteers have established in the area around the village pond, a wildlife area which has some of every species of swan and many rare types of geese etc.
