Vidyasagar Metropolitan College is located in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. It is a government-aided college that offers undergraduate courses. The students get B.A, B.Sc or B.Com degree from the University of Calcutta depending on subjects they choose. The college has an equipped library as well as physics, chemistry and biology laboratories. Students from all over the state of West Bengal come to study in this college. Employers have conducted on campus job interviews in the academic year 2006-2007 and selected students for highly paid and lucrative jobs, primarily in the booming local software industry. In recent times this college has organised seminars in important topics both in the fields of literature as well as science. The Department of Physics organises science exhibitions to popularise scientific temperament among the local school children. Students of neighbouring schools demonstrate scientific models and scientific experiments which are designed and fabricated by them. For organising this exhibition Department of Physics gets financial support from the Indian Physics Teachers Association.

Vidyasagar College (Bengali: বিদ্যাসাগর কলেজ) is a state government-aided public college, affiliated to the University of Calcutta, located in North Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The college offers both post-graduate and under-graduate courses in a number of subjects of arts and science. Founded in 1872, it was the first private college (now governmental) in India which was purely run, maintained and financed by Indians. Formerly known as Metropolitan Institution, it was named after its founder Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in 1917. The college is affiliated to Calcutta University, under UGC and accredited by NAAC. It follows semester based CBCS system. The college does not participate in NIRF ranking in college category. The college was a part of DBT STAR College Scheme. The college receives funding from State Government, UGC (via CU) and other GOI-affiliated institutes or schemes i.e RUSA, ICSSR, AICTE and NIEIT.

Ananda Mohan College is an undergraduate evening college in north Kolkata. It started in 1961 as the evening branch of City College while Rammohan College started functioning as the morning branch. City College was founded by patriotic Brahmo leader Ananda Mohan Bose. The college is located at 102/1, Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani, Kolkata-700 009. It was one of the City Group colleges administered by Brahmo Samaj Education Society, a registered society, constituted by the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, Kolkata. From 2017, it became a grant-in-aid college no longer administered by the Brahmo Samaj.

City College is a composite fully state government-aided public college, affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Established in 1881, it is one of the heritage institutions of Kolkata, and played a prominent role in the wake of the Bengal Renaissance of the nineteenth century. The college is located at 102/1, Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani (Amherst Street), Kolkata-700009. It shares premises with Rammohan College (morning college) and Anandamohan College (evening college). In the year 1961 the branches of City College emerged as separate colleges under instructions of the University Grants Commission. While the original college retained the original name “City College”, the branches were named as 1. Rammohan College, 2. Ananda Mohan College, 3. Umesh Chandra College, 4. City College of Commerce and Business Administration, 5. Sivanath Sastri College, 6. Heramba Chandra College, and 7. Prafulla Chandra College. Together they are referred to as City group of College (Kolkata).

Amherst Street is a north–south street in Central Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. The street was named after William Amherst, 1st Earl Amherst. It has been renamed as Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani after Raja Rammohan Roy, one of the most famous social-reformers of India. The road starts from Vivekananda Road crossing (Chaltabagan, Maniktala) and extends up to Bepin Behari Ganguly Street crossing (Lebutala, Bowbazar) via MG Road crossing and Surya Sen Street crossing. On the extreme north lies Raja Rammohan Roy Memorial Museum and on the extreme south lies the Bank of India (Bowbazar).

Mahatma Gandhi Road or M.G. Road, formerly known as Harrison Road, is a principal East-West thoroughfare in Kolkata (Previously known as Calcutta), the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. M.G. Road makes the boundary of North and Central Kolkata. In 1889 this was the first street of the city to be lit by electricity.

Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda's Ancestral House and Cultural Centre is a museum and cultural centre. It is located at 105 Vivekananda Road, Kolkata, India. In this house, Swami Vivekananda (then called Narendranath Datta) was born on 12 January 1863. The house remained Vivekananda's home throughout his childhood and early youth. The cultural centre was inaugurated by the President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
