The Château de Hohenack (also described as Château du Hohenack and Château féodal du Petit Hohnack) is a ruined castle in the commune of Labaroche in the Haut-Rhin département of France. Significant building periods were the last quarter of the 12th century, the 13th, 15th and 16th centuries. In plan view, the edifice is typical of the 12th century, constituting a polygonal curtain wall and a square keep. The castle served both military and administrative functions before being destroyed in 1655 on the orders of the King of France. During the French Revolution, the ruin was sold as national property and, until 1898, it was treated as a quarry. The castle has suffered war damage. The property of the state, it has been listed since 1905 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Pairis Abbey

Pairis Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery in Orbey in Haut-Rhin, Alsace, northeastern France. The surviving building serves today as a nursing home. The abbey was founded in 1138 by the Count of Eguisheim as a daughter house of Lucelle Abbey. In the 13th century, abbot Martin of Pairis preached the Fourth Crusade and then participated in the misfire of it. After taking active part in the sacking of Constantinople, Martin brought several looted relics from there to Pairis, increasing the status of the monastery considerably. The monk Gunther of Pairis wrote an account of the crusade. The abbey was joined to the Abbey of Maulbronn in 1452, confirmed by the Cistercian general chapter in 1453 and Pope Pius II in 1461. In 1648, Maulbronn was turned over to the Protestant Duchy of Württemberg by the Peace of Westphalia. The Cistercians were forced to leave and they re-established the abbey of Pairis. The abbey was suppressed during the French Revolution.

Kaysersberg

Kaysersberg (French pronunciation: [kaizəʁsbɛʁɡ]; German: Kaisersberg [ˈkaɪzɐsbɛʁk] ; Alsatian: Kaiserschbarig) is a historical town and former commune in Alsace in northeastern France. The name is German for Emperor's Mountain. The high fortress that dominates the town serves as a reminder of both its strategic importance and its warlike past. Kaysersberg lies in the canton of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, which itself is a subdivision of the Colmar-Ribeauvillé arrondissement. It was a separate commune until 1 January 2016, when it was merged into the new commune of Kaysersberg Vignoble together with nearby Kientzheim and Sigolsheim, and remains its seat.The town was first mentioned in 1227, when Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor purchased the castle and gave orders to refortify it. During the Middle Ages, Kaysersberg, a member of the Décapole, prospered. In 1648, the city became a part of France, although most inhabitants continued to speak German. From 1871 to 1918 and (again from 1940 to 1944) Kaysersberg belonged to Germany. In 2017 Kaysersberg was voted the Village préféré des Français (Village favoured by the French). The inhabitants are called Kaysersbergeois.
