Zürich Letten railway station

Autonomous School Zurich (ASZ, Autonome Schule Zürich in German) is a grassroot project in Switzerland. This school is run by immigrants as well as Swiss locals. Since 2009 the association "Bildung für Alle" provides education for all under the shelter of the Autonomous School Zurich. On offer are diverse educational and cultural activities for everyone both for undocumented refugees, the socially excluded and all other interested people.

Gewerbeschule is a quarter in the district 5 in Zürich. The district Gewerbeschule (upper district 5, there are located several Business schools) formed the formerly separate municipality of Aussersihl, which was incorporated into Zürich in 1893. The separation into the current districts 3, 4 and 5 dates to 1913. The quarter has a population of 9,690 distributed on an area of 0.73 km2 (0.28 sq mi).

The Milchbuck Tunnel is a motor road tunnel in Switzerland, and forms part of the A1L motorway from Zürich Schwamendingen to Zürich Letten, where the tunnel's southern portal lies on Wasserwerkstrasse, which leads into central Zürich. Constructed in 1978, the tunnel is 1,910 metres (6,270 ft) in length.A proposed second tunnel bore (to create two separate tunnels for two directions of traffic) was turned down. Now, only one lane handles traffic into downtown Zurich, one lane handle traffic leaving the city, with an emergency lane in the middle. By 2006, the emergency services in the tunnel has been upgraded, with the escape path being added. At the northern portal in the direction to the city, the entrance to Irchel underground car park is to the left of the lane. At about the midpoint of the Milchbuck tunnel, the Weinberg rail tunnel passes beneath it.

The Institute for Mathematical Research (Forschungsinstitut für Mathematik, FIM) is a mathematical research institution located at ETH Zurich and founded in 1964 by Beno Eckmann. Its main goals are to promote and facilitate the exchange between ETH Zurich and international leading mathematicians.The Institute offers a platform on which contacts of lasting values between faculty members of the Department of Mathematics of ETH, graduate students, members of the Swiss mathematical community at large and international researchers can be established. A lean staff structure of a director, a coordinator and an administrative assistant, a well-equipped infrastructure of 30 working spaces, and an independent budget serve as the basis of the Institute. This structure enables the FIM to host about 200 guests per year, ranging from short term visits of one or two days to long term stays of up to one year. Furthermore, the FIM organises scientific activities like conferences, minicourses and advanced graduate courses.FIM is member of EPDI (European Post-Doctoral Institute for Mathematical Sciences) and ERCOM (European Research Centres on Mathematics) and is jointly financed by the SNF and ETH Zurich.

Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK, German: Zürcher Hochschule der Künste) has approximately 2,500 students, which makes it the largest arts university in Switzerland. The university was established in 2007, following the merger between Zurich's School of Art and Design (HGKZ) and the School of Music, Drama, and Dance (HMT). ZHdK is one of four universities affiliated to Zürcher Fachhochschule. ZHdK offers Bachelor's and master's degree courses and further education programmes in art, design, music, art education, theatre, film, dance, transdisciplinary studies as well as PhD programmes in collaboration with different international Art Universities and with ETH Zurich. ZHdK holds an active role in research, especially in artistic research and design research.Affiliated to ZHdK are the Museum of Design, Zurich, the Theater der Künste (Theatre of the Arts), the Mehrspur Music Club, and the Media and Information Centre (MIZ).

AV Turicia is a color-bearing student society in Zürich. It was founded in 1860. It is a section of the Swiss Student Association and a member of the "Federation of Student Komment Societies" (also known as "Block"). It is the oldest university group within the Federation, which was founded in 1841.

The Letten Tunnel (German: Lettentunnel) is a disused railway tunnel in the Swiss city of Zürich. It is situated on the old route of the Lake Zürich right bank railway (Rechtsufrige Zürichseebahn) from Zurich Hbf station to Rapperswil station. Radical changes to the local railway geography led to the tunnel being superseded in 1990, and closed and sealed by 2002.As built in 1894, the right bank railway was a single track line that departed from Zürich Hbf in a westerly direction, before performing a clockwise 270 degrees turn via a viaduct over the Limmat, the principal river flowing through the city of Zürich. It then passed through Letten station and the Letten Tunnel in order to reach Stadelhofen station. By rail the distance between Zurich Hbf and Stadelhofen was some 5 kilometres (3.1 mi), despite the fact that they are only 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) apart in a straight line. In 1990 the Letten Tunnel was replaced by the Hirschengraben Tunnel, which took a direct route from new through low-level platforms at Zurich Hbf under the Limmat to Stadelhofen. After the new route opened, the original railway line and tunnel fell into disuse. The railway line was closed in 1998, and by 2002 it had been removed, and the tunnel was filled in and sealed off.The northern portal of the tunnel can still be observed from a location close to the former Letten railway station and the Letten power station on the banks of the Limmat. The northern approaches to the tunnel, including the bridge over the Limmat, are now used as a cycle and pedestrian path.

Zürich Wipkingen railway station (German: Bahnhof Zürich Wipkingen) is a railway station in the Wipkingen quarter of the Swiss city of Zürich. It is situated on the Zürich–Winterthur railway line, which was built by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (Schweizerische Nordostbahn).The route towards Zürich HB leads over the Wipkingen viaduct (Wipkinger Viadukt). Immediately at the northern end of the station, the Wipkingen Tunnel starts and connects it to Zürich Oerlikon.

The Sihl is a Swiss river that rises near the Druesberg mountain in the canton of Schwyz, and eventually flows into the Limmat in the centre of the city of Zürich. It has a length of 73 km (45 mi), including the Sihlsee reservoir, through which the river flows. Water is abstracted from the river at the Sihlsee, leading to decreased downstream water flows and a consequent reduction in water quality.The river flows through, or along the border of, the cantons of Schwyz, Zürich and Zug. The main settlements of the Sihl Valley are all in the canton of Zürich, and include the towns of Langnau am Albis and Adliswil, along with a south-western segment of the city of Zürich. Above Langnau am Albis, some 13 km (8.1 mi) from the confluence with the Limmat, there are no major settlements alongside the river, and only a few small villages. Whilst the town of Einsiedeln is situated close to the Sihlsee, it is actually in the valley of a tributary river, the Alp.

Unterstrass is a quarter in the district 6 in Zürich. It was formerly a municipality of its own, having been incorporated into Zürich in 1893. The quarter has a population of 19,921, in an area of 2.46 km2 (0.95 sq mi). In 1962, the faculty of science of the University of Zürich proposed to establish the Irchelpark campus on the Strickhofareal. The first stage the construction of the university buildings was begun in 1973, and the campus was inaugurated in 1979. The construction of the second stage lasted from 1978 to 1983. The campus also houses the anthropological museum Anthropologisches Museum, and the cantonal Staatsarchiv Zürich. Built in 1901 as Rigiblick restaurant, the former Gastsaal was re-opened as Theater Rigiblick in 1984.
