Felixstowe

Felixstowe railway station is the eastern passenger terminus of the Felixstowe Branch Line, in the east of England and is the only surviving station serving the coastal town of Felixstowe, Suffolk. It is 15 miles 51 chains (25.2 km) down the line from Ipswich and 84 miles 30 chains (135.8 km) measured from London Liverpool Street; the preceding station on the line is Trimley. Its three-letter station code is FLX. It was opened by the Great Eastern Railway in 1898 as Felixstowe Town to distinguish it from the other stations at Felixstowe Pier and Felixstowe Beach, both of which have since closed. The station is owned by Network Rail and is currently managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving it.

Felixstowe Pier is a pleasure pier in the Edwardian seaside town of Felixstowe, Suffolk, England. The pier opened in August 1905 with a total length of 2,640 feet (800 m) and was once one of the longest in the country. Steamer services operated from the pier to various destinations. The pier was never served by its own railway station, the confusion arising because of a now demolished or buried pier located elsewhere in Felixstowe. Felixstowe pleasure pier should not be confused with an older wooden pier also called Felixstowe pier but located near Landguard Common next to the old Felixstowe port. It was the original terminus of the Felixstowe branch line and gave rise to the name of the Felixstowe Pier railway station, the site of which is now within the modern Felixstowe container port reclaimed land. The Harwich - Felixstowe ferry also used this pier originally.During the war, the pier was sectioned to reduce the risk of enemy invasion, which it never fully recovered from, resulting in the pierhead being demolished after the war, having been left to deteriorate. In 2017, a new shore-end structure was opened to the public at a cost of £3m, offering family entertainments as part of a wider regeneration scheme for the local area.

They play their home games at the AGL Arena in Felixstowe, the home of Felixstowe & Walton United.

Felixstowe and Walton United Football Club is a football club based in Felixstowe, Suffolk, England. Formed in 2000 by a merger of Felixstowe Port & Town and Walton United, the club are currently members of the Isthmian League North Division and play at Dellwood Avenue.

Walton is a settlement and former civil parish, now in the parish of Felixstowe, in the East Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England, lying between the rivers Orwell and Deben. In 1911 the parish had a population of 4226.

Felixstowe International College is an independent school founded in 1995 in Felixstowe, Suffolk, England.

Felixstowe College was a girls' independent school, located in Felixstowe, Suffolk. It was established in 1929 and closed in 1994. In 1995, a different school called Felixstowe International College was founded on part of the site of Felixstowe College. Other former boarding houses, playing fields and the main school site were sold off for private housing. Julie Welch's memoir Too Marvellous for Words covers her time spent at this school in the 1960s.

Felixstowe School is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Felixstowe, Suffolk, England. The school was formed in September 2011 from the merger of Orwell High School and Deben High School. Formerly, the school operated from both of these school sites, before all pupils were later accommodated by the recently constructed new buildings at the former Orwell High School site, with the old Deben High School premise being closed. Felixstowe School’s new buildings cost approximately £19 million, and were officially opened for teaching on Monday 28 April 2014. The school was previously sponsored by AET but from September 2019, it was taken over by a local Suffolk trust, Unity Schools Partnership, who sponsor a number of successful schools across the county. The school offers further education (FE) courses, primarily at A Level, but also several specialised vocational courses. In 2017, the school received an 'inadequate' rating from Ofsted.

Felixstowe Beach is a disused railway station which served the seafront and southern part of Felixstowe in Suffolk, England. First opened in 1877, the station closed to freight on 5 December 1966 and to passenger traffic on 11 September 1967. The line remains open and sidings to the south of the station connect with railway lines in the Port of Felixstowe.

Brackenbury Battery was a small coastal artillery fort located just north of Felixstowe, England,and initially known as Felixstowe Battery. It opened in October 1915 to provide fire northward from the Haven ports, replacing a battery of 10-inch guns that had previously covered this area. With their removal, only a single 10-inch gun in Landguard Fort could fire in that direction, and Brackenbury was built to address this problem. Brackenbury Battery was equipped with two of the newest 9.2-inch Mk IX guns, making it the most powerfully armed battery on the east coast at that time. The gun's carriages were set in concrete with shelters below, then surrounded by an earthen rampart and ditch. The guns were upgraded to Mk. X versions in 1929-1930. Trenches and strongpoints were added around the battery on the outbreak of World War II, and in 1941 two searchlights were placed on the beach to give the battery night fighting capability. The Battery had a role in the development of radar when, in July 1939, the guns were being test fired right as researchers at Bawdsey Manor, about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north, were testing a new surface-scanning radar. The splashes of the shells produced strong returns on the radar displays, allowing the team to measure the distance and bearing of the fall of shot. This led to the development of Coast Artillery radar, and more generally the use of radar to guide naval gunfire. During WWII, the battery was manned by the 176 Battery of Suffolk Heavy Regiment Royal Artillery (Territorial Army), and later, 278 Battery of 515 Coast Regiment. It was put into care and maintenance in 1944, and formally stood down in 1952. The site was later redeveloped as a housing estate, and the area is now a greenspace. No sign of the battery remains.
