29th Street was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's South Side Main Line, which is now part of the Green Line. The station was located at 29th Street and Wabash Avenue in the Douglas neighborhood of Chicago. 29th was situated south of 26th and north of 31st. 29th opened on June 6, 1892, and closed on August 1, 1949.

Established on June 18, 1905, Chicago’s Pekin Theatre was the first black owned musical and vaudeville stock theatre in the United States (the African Grove Theatre was established in New York City in 1821). Between 1905 and around 1915, the Pekin Club and its Pekin Theatre served as a training ground and showcase for Black theatrical talent, vaudeville acts, and musical comedies. Additionally, the theatre allowed “African-American theatre artists with an opportunity to master theater craft and contribute significantly to the development of an emerging Black theater tradition”.The Pekin became "renowned for its all-black stock company and school for actors, an orchestra able to play ragtime and opera with equal brilliance, and a repertoire of original musical comedies." Robert T Motts, founded the theatre, and brought it to prominence by presenting an all black company, seeking out an affluent interracial audience, and using his establishment for social causes. Mott died in 1911, and after that the theater faded but he had established a new pattern of successful black enterprise.

31st Street was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's South Side Main Line, which is now part of the Green Line. The station was located at 31st Street near State Street in the Douglas neighborhood of Chicago. 31st was situated south of 29th and north of 33rd. 31st opened on June 6, 1892, and closed on August 1, 1949.

The Kent House, also known as Sydney Kent House or St. James Convent, is a Queen Anne style house located at 2944 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The house was designed in 1883 by Burnham & Root for Sidney A. Kent. From 1896 to 1906, it was the home of barbed-wire industrialist and robber baron John Warne Gates, better known as "Bet-a-Million" Gates for his gambling excesses. In the early 20th century, it served as the main building for what is today, National-Louis University. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and it was designated a Chicago Landmark on March 18, 1987.

The McCrone Research Institute is a not-for-profit educational and research organization for microscopy located in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded by Dr. Walter C. McCrone in 1960. With more than 30,000 enrollments since its incorporation, it is the largest private, independent, nonprofit microscopy and microanalysis institution in the United States dedicated solely to the teaching of microscopists. McCrone Research Institute maintains over one hundred polarized light and various other light microscopes in addition to electron microscopes, spectrometers, and scientific digital imaging systems for use in any of its over 50 intensive one-week courses offered each year. The McCrone Research Institute incorporates enhanced lecture rooms and laboratories, a museum, library, reference collections, atlases, databases, and other teaching materials relating to microscopy and microanalysis in its own 11,000 square feet (1,000 m2) building and is the principal microscopy training organization for tens of thousands of practicing scientists in environmental, forensic, industrial, government, and university laboratories worldwide. The McCrone Research Institute also conducts basic and applied scientific research related to its mission of expanding particle analysis capabilities and using microscopical and microanalytical techniques to address problems in forensic, industrial, pharmaceutical, environmental and conservation sciences. This research is currently funded internally and by selected grants, contracts and cooperative agreements associated with a variety of academic institutions, government agencies and corporations. Located in the same Chicago neighborhood since its inception in 1960, McCrone Research Institute is recognized as a world-class, Illinois research organization on the forefront of the technological frontier. Microscope Publications, a division of the McCrone Research Institute, is publisher and provider of microscopy textbooks, handbooks, and atlases including The Particle Atlas, the world’s first atlas of microscopic particles, The Microscope Series Handbooks, and the international journal, The Microscope, founded in 1937.The McCrone Research Institute sponsors the Inter/Micro Conference in Chicago. These meetings were first organized in 1948 and feature a symposium, exhibition, and workshops on light and electron microscopy. Each year since 1984 Brian J. Ford has presented the popular "An Evening with Brian" which offers controversial views of world affairs from a microscopist's viewpoint. Additionally, the institute maintains a program for certification in applied chemical microscopy and awards certificates for successful completion of its microscopy and microanalysis courses.

VanderCook College of Music is a private music college in Chicago, Illinois. It is the only college in the country solely specializing in the training of music educators. Students may pursue a Bachelor of Music in Education (B.M.Ed.), Master of Music in Education (M.M.Ed.), and Master of Music in Education and Certification. The college is located in a Mies van der Rohe building on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). VanderCook is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the National Association of Schools of Music.

Armour Square is a Chicago neighborhood on the city's South Side, as well as a larger, officially defined community area, which also includes Chinatown and the CHA Wentworth Gardens housing project. Armour Square is bordered by Bridgeport to the west, Pilsen to the northwest, Douglas and Grand Boulevard to the east and southeast, and with the Near South Side bordering the area to the north, and Fuller Park bordering its southernmost boundary, along Pershing Road.

The McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) is a building on the main campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology, in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. The McCormick Tribune Campus Center opened September 30, 2003. A single-story 110,000-square-foot (10,000 m2) building, it was the first building designed by architect Rem Koolhaas within the United States.

Park No. 474 is the smallest public park in Chicago, Illinois (and the smallest city park in the state), located in the Douglas community on the South Side. The area of the park is officially listed as the minimum 0.01 acres; however, the actual area is only a 54-square-foot granite rectangle. The Chicago Park District refers to Park No. 474 as a "parklet", but unlike other American parklets, the park is a permanent space away from sidewalks and listed as an independent park in the city records. It is within the historic Black Metropolis–Bronzeville District in Chicago's 4th Ward. The passive park is situated at 3231 S. Dearborn St., located on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology, directly adjacent to the university's Perlstein Hall and Wishnick Hall. The park contains no natural features and two manmade features: a 6-foot-by-9-foot granite slab, which constitutes the entire area of the park, and the sculpture Man on a Bench by George Segal. The park is supervised by the nearby WIlliams Park's management.

Robert F. Carr Memorial Chapel of St. Savior, "God Box", is a modest, one-story brick building situated near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and 32nd Street on the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Notably, this is the only nonsecular structure designed by German-American modern architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who at the time served as the director of the School of Architecture.Bishop Wallace Conkling of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago proposed the construction of the chapel in the late 1940s with the notion that it would be a "great educational project of the atomic age." IIT's religious and spiritual organizations currently use the "God Box" as a "center of campus spiritual life" for meditation, weekly services, and other meetings.
