Wighton

Wighton Halt is a railway station serving the small village of Wighton, Norfolk. It is a public railway station, originally part of the standard gauge network, and now part of the narrow gauge Wells and Walsingham Light Railway.

The Wells and Walsingham Light Railway is a 10+1⁄4 in (260 mm) gauge heritage railway in Norfolk, England running between the coastal town of Wells-next-the-Sea and the inland village of Walsingham. The railway occupies a four-mile (6.4 km) section of the trackbed of the former Wymondham to Wells branch which was closed to passengers in stages from 1964 to 1969 as part of the Beeching cuts. Other parts of this line, further south, have also been preserved by the Mid-Norfolk Railway. Despite its miniature dimensions, the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway is a "public railway", indicating that its operation is established by Act of Parliament. The original establishment of the preserved line was authorised by the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway Order 1982, the terms of which were altered under the subsequent Wells and Walsingham Light Railway (Amendment) Order 1994. Prior to 1982 the 15 in (381 mm) gauge Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway had traded as "The World's smallest public railway", a phrase sometimes quoted by the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway since the 1982 Light Railway Order.

Warham Camp is an Iron Age circular hill fort with a diameter of 212 metres (232 yards) near Warham, south of Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk. It is a Scheduled Monument and a 5.1-hectare (13-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The fort is divided into two parts by a channel of the River Stiffkey constructed in the eighteenth century. It dates to the last few centuries before the Roman invasion of Britain, with evidence of post-occupation activity. The University of East Anglia has described it as the best-preserved hill fort in Norfolk.This unimproved chalk grassland site is heavily grazed by rabbits and cattle. It has diverse herb species such as common rock-rose and squinancywort, and butterflies including the chalkhill blue.There is access to the site by a footpath.

Warham railway station is a request stop on the narrow gauge Wells and Walsingham Light Railway, and serves the small village of Warham. It opened in 1982.

Warham is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated about 5 km (3.1 mi) inland from the north Norfolk coast, 5 km (3.1 mi) south-east of the town of Wells-next-the-Sea and 50 km (31 mi) north-west of the city of Norwich.The villages name means 'Weir homestead/village'.The civil parish has an area of 18.65 km2 (7.20 sq mi) and in the 2001 census and the 2011 Census had a population of 193 in 79 households. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of North Norfolk.This small village has two large medieval churches, and used to have three. The present Church of England parish church All Saints' with its collapsed west tower, is in the village centre near the pub; St Mary Magdalene is about 500 m (550 yd) to the west. All Saints' is Grade II* listed; St Mary's Grade I. Originally there were three ecclesiastical parishes here, but the parishes were merged after the English Reformation. In the process, the church of St Mary the Virgin was demolished. It used to stand just east of All Saints, on the other side of the lane to Wighton.Just south of the village is Warham Camp, a small hill fort earthwork built by the Iceni in the 2nd century BC, known locally as 'the Danish Camp'.The village has a tiny request stop - Warham railway station - on the narrow gauge Wells and Walsingham Light Railway.

Walsingham railway station is located in Walsingham, Norfolk, on the narrow gauge Wells and Walsingham Light Railway. It was opened in 1982. It is located north of the original station, which has been converted into a Russian Orthodox Church. Operational rail facilities consist of a single running line, plus a headshunt and run round loop. There are no spring points, and access to the run round loop is controlled by ground frames, operated by the train crew. The station is not staffed, except on special operating days, and passengers purchase tickets from the guard.Passenger facilities consist of a single rail-level platform, a waiting shelter, and a local information notice board and map. The station was fully remodelled in the late 1980s, with the single platform relocated from the eastern to the western side of the running line.

The Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham is a Church of England shrine church built in 1938 in Walsingham, Norfolk, England. Walsingham is the site of the reputed Marian apparitions to Richeldis de Faverches in 1061. The Virgin Mary is therefore venerated at the site with the title of Our Lady of Walsingham.

Walsingham Priory was a monastery of Augustinian Canons regular in Walsingham, Norfolk, England seized by the crown at the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII. The priory is perhaps best known for having housed a Marian shrine with a replica of the house of the Holy Family in Nazareth. Walsingham Abbey Grounds and the Shirehall Museum are opened to the public.

Walsingham () is a civil parish in North Norfolk, England, famous for its religious shrines in honour of Mary, mother of Jesus. It also contains the ruins of two medieval monastic houses. Walsingham is 27 miles (43 km) northwest of Norwich. The civil parish includes Little Walsingham and Great Walsingham, together with Egmere (a depopulated medieval village at grid reference TF 897 374), and has an area of 18.98 km². At the 2011 census, it had a population of 819.Walsingham is a major centre of pilgrimage. In 1061, according to the Walsingham legend, an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman, Richeldis de Faverches, had a vision of the Virgin Mary in which she was instructed to build a replica of the house of the Holy Family in Nazareth in honour of the Annunciation. When it was built, the Holy House in Walsingham was panelled with wood and contained a wooden statue of an enthroned Virgin Mary with the child Jesus seated on her lap. Among its relics was a phial reputedly of the Virgin's milk. Walsingham became one of northern Europe's great places of pilgrimage and remained so through the remainder of the Middle Ages, with a revival in the 20th century.

The Midden Halt is a request stop on the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway which serves a camp site.

Wells Chalk Pit is a 4-hectare (9.9-acre) biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the eastern outskirts of Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site, and it is in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This quarry has chalk grassland with large populations of orchids in areas which have not been worked for many years. The site is also geologically important as it exposes the glacial deposits of the Marly Drift till, which was formerly believed to date to the Anglian glaciation, but may belong to the more recent Wolstonian ice age.There is access to the site from Stiffkey Road.

Walsingham was a railway station on the Wells and Fakenham Railway, later part of the Great Eastern Railway. It opened on 1 December 1857, and served the villages of Great Walsingham and Little Walsingham. It closed on 5 October 1964. The station buildings were purchased in 1967 by a group of members of the Russian Orthodox Church and developed into a small monastic community house, including St. Seraphim's Russian Orthodox church. The resident religious community has plans to further develop the site, including a permanent dual exhibition which will both showcase the religious life, in particular the art of icon painting, and also provide a historical review of the site's railway heritage.Since 1982, there has been a second station at Walsingham - the southern terminus of the narrow gauge Wells and Walsingham Light Railway. This station is sited slightly to the north of the original, the latter now having a car and coach park on the site of the tracks.
