Datchet

Churchmead School is a co-educational Church of England voluntary aided secondary school that caters for 11- to 16-year-olds. It is located in Datchet, near Slough, England. The school's motto is "Believe to Achieve". The school has also gained Specialist Arts College status. In December 2015 Churchmead school was rated as "good" by Ofsted and "outstanding" by a church inspection. Ofsted inspected the school again in 2019 and it continues to be rated as "good". In 2017 54 per cent of students got grade 4 or above in English and maths. In English 74 per cent got at least a grade 4 and 59 per cent got grade 5 or above. In 2016 Churchmead got its best ever GCSE results. 69 per cent of pupils got 5 GCSEs including English and maths. 59 per cent of disadvantaged pupils got 5 GCSEs including English and maths. It is now rated in the top 10 per cent of schools nationally for progress. Churchmead was established as a secondary modern school for Buckinghamshire County Council, who, in the south of the county, operated a system of 11- to 18-year-old secondary schools, fed by 5-11 primary schools (or 5-7 infant schools and 7-11 junior schools). Changes to administrative county boundaries in 1974 led to the school transferring to Berkshire County Council, who operated it as a school within Slough's education system, by then modified for the change from primary to secondary education to take place at age 12 rather than 11. Further changes led to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead becoming the Education Authority in 1998. The rest of the Windsor area of Windsor and Maidenhead uses a system with age 9-13 middle schools so leaving Churchmead as the only 11-18 school in its area of the borough. This in turn results in most students being drawn from Slough, which has resumed secondary education starting at age 11.Starting September 2008, the four house system that has been in existence since the school was founded, was scrapped for a three house inter-year form system.

Datchet railway station serves the village of Datchet in Berkshire, England. It is 23 miles 63 chains (38.3 km) down the line from London Waterloo, on the Staines to Windsor & Eton Line. The station has two side platforms linked by a pedestrian footbridge, and the principal station buildings are to be found on the London bound platform. The station has a central location within Datchet village, and two level crossings cross the line immediately to the west of the station. The presence of these crossings, which carry both road routes from the village to the nearby town of Windsor, can cause traffic delays in the village.

Datchet Bridge, also known as The Divided Bridge, was a road bridge which crossed the River Thames at Datchet from 1706 until it was demolished in 1848. It was situated on the reach between Old Windsor Lock and Romney Lock and linked Windsor on the Berkshire bank to Datchet on the Buckinghamshire side. The bridge replaced a ferry service which had operated at the site since at least the middle of the 13th century. The first Datchet Bridge was a wooden bridge commissioned by Queen Anne as the crossing was a convenient back-way to Windsor Castle. Responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the crossing later passed to the counties of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire over whose boundary the bridge spanned. There followed many decades of dispute between the counties over who should pay for what. This culminated in 1836 with each county deciding to build their own half, in different materials and not touching in the middle. The resulting "crazy erection", Buckinghamshire's side in wood and Berkshire's in iron, known as The Divided Bridge, was demolished in 1848 and is the only case on the Thames where an established bridge crossing site has completely disappeared.

Datchet Common near Datchet in the English county of Berkshire (formerly Buckinghamshire) was used as a cricket venue for matches between 1730 and 1785.It is first recorded in October 1730 when a match was played "by persons of distinction for £50 a side". This match is the earliest known mention of cricket in the county of Buckinghamshire.

Ditton Park, Ditton Manor House or Ditton Park House was the manor house and private feudal demesne of the lord of the Manor of Ditton, and refers today to the rebuilt building and smaller grounds towards the edge of the town of Slough in England. A key feature is its centuries-old moat which extends to most of the adjoining lawns and garden. Park areas extend to the north and west of the moat. Ditton Park House and its courtyard walls, stables and observatory are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England (i.e. in the initial category).

Ditton is a suburb of Slough, in the unitary authority area of Slough, in the ceremonial county of Berkshire, England.It is also covered by the M4 and the Queen Mary Reservoir. It was a hamlet in the parish of Stoke Poges. It was a separated part of the parish lying about 2 miles to the south west with the parishes of Upton and Langley Marish intervening. It is most famous for being the location of the Manor of Ditton and Ditton Park. It was at Ditton Park in 1935 that the idea for the development of the British Radar Defence System was conceived. It was transferred to Berkshire from Buckinghamshire in 1974.

Slough Cricket Club is a cricket club based in Berkshire, in southern England. Slough Cricket Club has been at the forefront of cricket in the Thames Valley since it moved to Chalvey Road in 1899. It joined the Thames Valley League on its inception in 1972 and has remained in the top division ever since. Their first team play in Division Two of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League, with the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th elevens playing in divisions 1,3,5,7 and 9 respectively in the Thames Valley Cricket League, a Sunday eleven team who participate in the South East Shires Cricket League, and a Junior Section, who play in the Berkshire Youth Cricket League.

Sumptermead Ait is an island in the River Thames in England on the reach above Old Windsor Lock, near Datchet, Berkshire. The island is a thin wooded strip separated by a narrow channel on the Datchet side. In 1995 a Thames side path was created here for the diverted Thames Path. The island has a long history, being recorded as "Sondremede" in 1263, when given to the prioress of St Helens in London, and "Saunder-meade" in 1586, when leased to the queens laundress.

Adelaide Cottage (formerly known as Adelaide Lodge) is a house in Windsor Home Park just east of Windsor Castle, in Berkshire. It is the principal residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Albert Bridge is a road bridge in England running north–south and carrying the B3021 between Datchet and Old Windsor. It crosses the River Thames on the reach between Old Windsor Lock and Romney Lock. It was rebuilt in brick in 1927 to replace a cast-iron bridge built in 1850–51. The Albert and Victoria Bridges in Datchet were built to replace the old Datchet Bridge as part of the rerouting of the Datchet to Windsor roads following the expansion of the grounds of Windsor Castle. Prince Albert is said to have had a part in the design The original bridge was built of cast iron and opened in 1851. In 1914 a large hole appeared in the bridge, but it was not until 1927 that the various authorities had agreed on its replacement and built it. The Thames Path crosses the bridge rejoining the original towpath on the Windsor side south of Home Park, the towpath access in Home Park, Windsor having been lost due to the Windsor Castle Act 1848.

Lion Island is a small uninhabited island in the River Thames in England on the reach above Old Windsor Lock, near Old Windsor, Berkshire. The island is a thin wooded strip separated by a narrow channel on the north bank. It is just above Old Windsor Weir and the head of New Cut which leads to Old Windsor Lock. The island is the relict of three long parallel islands which existed at this point before the creation of the Old Windsor Lock cut. One of these was called Nickcroft Ait, and an obstruction known as "Newman's Bucks" existed between two of them

Victoria Bridge is a road bridge running north–south between Datchet and Windsor, Berkshire, England. It crosses the River Thames on the reach between Old Windsor Lock and Romney Lock. It was rebuilt in 1967 to replace a damaged bridge. The Victoria and Albert Bridges in Datchet were built to replace the old Datchet Bridge as part of the re-routing of the Datchet to Windsor roads following the expansion of the grounds of Windsor Castle. Prince Albert is said to have had a part in the design Victoria Bridge was built in 1851, paid for partly by the Windsor, Staines and Richmond Railway Company who were keen to have access to Windsor across part of the castle property. The original bridge was built of cast iron with stone abutments. The bridge was severely damaged by a group of tanks crossing it during World War II but was not closed until 1963, operating with weight restrictions. There was a temporary Bailey bridge until 1966, then the central crossing was replaced by a concrete structure and reopened in 1967. Under the terms of the original contract, British Rail were required to contribute to the cost. The Thames Path crosses the bridge rejoining the original towpath on the Windsor side for the northern part of Home Park, the towpath access in Home Park, Windsor having been lost due to the Windsor Castle Act 1848.
