CPR Lambton Yard

Runnymede Collegiate Institute (colloquially known as Runnymede CI, RCI, or Runnymede) is a high school located on Jane Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The school first opened in 1927 and is operated by the Toronto District School Board. Prior to 1998, the school was part of the Board of Education for the City of York. Runnymede has a population of 500 students and has a variety of course offerings ranging from computer technology to co-operative education, from modern languages to music. The motto of this school is Vestigia Nulla Retrorsum ("No Steps Back").

Rockcliffe–Smythe is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was part of the former City of York before the amalgamation of Toronto in 1998. It is in Ward 5 (York-South Weston) in the City of Toronto. As with many neighbourhoods defined by the city, there are often more traditional names for pockets of the city. Directly north-east of Jane Street and St. Clair West is an area called Syme, named after George Syme Reeve of York West. Further to the east (beyond Hilldale road) is another pocket called Harwood. Harwood is bordered by creek in almost all directions.

Runnymede is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada located north of Bloor Street West between Jane Street and Runnymede Road north to Dundas Street West. It is located directly north of the former village of Swansea and west of the High Park North neighbourhood. The immediate area around Bloor Street is commonly known as Bloor West Village after the shopping area along Bloor Street, whereas the area to the north is considered the Runnymede neighbourhood.

Runnymede Park is a medium-sized public park located in The Junction neighbourhood of Toronto, Canada, one block east of Runnymede Road. Its southern boundary is the West Toronto Yard used by the Canadian Pacific Railway, its northern boundary is Ryding Avenue, while a laneway and parking lot make up the western and eastern boundaries respectively. It is relatively flat, and features many soaring mature oak trees.

Baby Point is a residential neighbourhood in the York district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the west by the Humber River from south of Baby Point Crescent to St. Marks Road, east to Jane Street and Jane Street south to Raymond Avenue and Raymond Avenue west to the Humber. It is within the city-defined neighbourhood of 'Lambton-Baby Point.' Baby Point is within the proximity of Jane station. The neighbourhood was at one time an Iroquois village, called Teiaiagon. The village had a population of 5000 at its peak. The village was burnt to the ground in a French Army attack in 1687. In the 19th century, lawyer James Baby bought the land from the Upper Canada government, which had bought it as part of the Toronto Purchase. The land was developed into the current neighbourhood in the early 20th century. The name is pronounced by locals as "Babby" Point, to rhyme with tabby or cabbie, in an approximation of how James Baby pronounced his surname.

Lambton is a neighbourhood in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the east bank of the Humber River north and south of Dundas Street West. It is bounded on the north by Black Creek, on the east by Jane Street and on the south by St. Mark's Road. The area west of Gooch Road is also known as "Warren Park", the name of the housing sub-division built in the 1950s. The portion south of Dundas Street is within the 'Lambton Baby Point' neighbourhood as defined by the City of Toronto.

The Runnymede fire hall was operated by Toronto Fire Services, from 1928 to 2014. Then-mayor Rob Ford ordered the fire hall shut down, as a cost-saving measure. Toronto Fire Services repurposed the heritage structure, and reopened it as a public education center, on October 13, 2016.Recommendations that the fire hall be closed had been offered since at least 1987. Ford first attempted to have the station closed in 2012, but it received a brief reprieve, in 2013. The closure stirred controversy, with local residents concerned over slower response times from more distant fire halls.The fire hall's architecture was considered sufficiently iconic for it to be considered a heritage structure, worthy of preservation. On October 13, 2016, the historic structure was reopened, in a public ceremony — but as a fire education centre, not an active fire station. While it will be capable of operating a fire engine, no engine will be stationed there. Instead, a fire captain and six fire educators will conduct fire safety outreach. Local councilor, Sarah Doucette, celebrated its re-opening. She echoed the views of local residents who regretted it had not been restored to fully operational status.

Teiaiagon was an Iroquoian village on the east bank of the Humber River in what is now Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was located along the Toronto Carrying-Place Trail. The site is near the current intersection of Jane Street and Annette Street, at which is situated the community of Baby Point. The name means "It crosses the stream."

West Toronto Yard is a small marshalling yard for Canadian Pacific Railway on the Galt Subdivision in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The yard was built in 1882 to relieve stress at the Parkdale Yard and is located near Keele Street and Dundas Street West in The Junction. It was once the main yards for Toronto, but was replaced in that role in April 1964 by the CPR Toronto Yard in Agincourt. The roundhouse was demolished in 1998. A Rona retail store stands on the site of the former roundhouse and shops. Additional buildings were located along Keele Street such as the car shops, but were demolished for the Keele Centre at 500-530 Keele Street around the 1970s. The turntable from the roundhouse and transfer table from the erecting shops were saved from destruction and relocated to a garden at the back of the Rona property. Engines from West Toronto formerly served local industry. West Toronto Yard is primary used for storage and classification of CPR's industrial customers in the Guelph - Islington corridor. CPR's premier piggyback service, the Expressway originally was sited at West Toronto, but was relocated to Hornby when volume grew too large. When West Toronto became overcrowded in 1913, an additional yard was built immediately to the west. Called CPR Lambton Yard, it stretches from Runnymede Road to Scarlett Road. Runnymede Road divides the yards. Plans to build a hump class yard on the expanded site were cancelled around 1950. The search for a new site for a new main and modern hump classification yard eventually resulted in the selection of the Agincourt location.

Congregation Knesseth Israel, also known as the Junction Shul, is an Orthodox Jewish congregation in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Its synagogue building is the oldest surviving in Toronto that is still in use, and was designated an Ontario Heritage site in 1984 under the Ontario Heritage Act.Located at 56 Maria Street, in Toronto's Junction neighbourhood, the congregation was established in 1909 by Jewish immigrants, largely from Russia and Poland. Services were originally held at a home at 303 Maria Street. In 1911, the tract of land on which the synagogue was built was purchased for $520 with construction beginning shortly thereafter.The Knesseth Israel Jewish Synagogue, Maria Street at Shipman Street, (1911) was designed by James Augustus Ellis (architect) of the firm Ellis and Connery. It was built with the bartered labour and donated funds of the founding members and their families. The building was dedicated on September 8, 1912 and services began in 1913. At its peak, in the 1920s, the temple served more than 200 Jewish residents in the neighbourhood, with the presence of the synagogue contributing to a dramatic rise in Jewish migrants to the neighbourhood.The building has a modest red brick facade with minimal ornamentation or detail. A double-side staircase leads to two heavy wooden doors. Circular windows on three sides of the building are divided into eighteen segments to symbolize the Hebrew word chai (life). Its interior is decorative and elegant in a traditional Eastern European style. The women's gallery on the top floor is a three-sided upper-level balcony. The lower level of the sanctuary has three sides of seating facing the centre. The ark housing the Torah scrolls is situated against the eastern wall.Many of the congregants were artisans, peddlers, shopkeepers or scrap and metal collectors while a large number of residents who were carpenters or cabinet makers found work at the nearby Heintzman & Co. piano factory on Keele Street. A number of these cabinet makers carved much of the synagogue's interior wooden architectural details.The synagogue's only rabbi was Mordechai Langner who served the congregation from 1924 until 1939. Subsequently, services were conducted by a cantor or congregants.Toronto's Jewish population migrated north after World War Two, resulting in the synagogue remaining largely closed except for holidays and special events since the 1950s. Nevertheless, it has a congregation of 80 full-time and 300 associate members most of whom grew up in the area or are descended from the founding members.Philanthropist and arts patron Joey Tanenbaum is the grandson of one of the synagogue's founders and attended services as a boy. Magasin royal (French for 'royal store') was the generic name given to a trading post under the purview of the King of France. The name also applied specifically to two trading posts that were built during the 18th century for French fur trading near the Humber River in the Pays d'en Haut region of New France, in present-day Toronto, Ontario, Canada. According to Ron Brown, author of From Queenston to Kingston: The Hidden Heritage of Lake Ontario's Shoreline, the fort was "little more than a log cabin", and archeologists considered it "the first non-aboriginal building in the Toronto area".

Old Mill is a neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada on the banks of the Humber River. It is located north and west of the intersection of Bloor Street and Jane Street. The area takes its name from the old grist mill ruins on the west bank of the river, now converted into a hotel (also named "Old Mill"). The City of Toronto includes this neighbourhood in the official "Lambton Baby Point" neighbourhood which includes the Baby Point enclave and former Lambton village areas to the north.
