One Kansas City Place

The Financial District of Kansas City, Missouri is a neighborhood in the center of Downtown Kansas City. It is bordered roughly by Ninth Street to the north, Oak Street to the east, Baltimore Avenue to the west, and Interstate 670 (Kansas-Missouri) to the south. The neighborhood includes many of the city's largest offices, and headquarters of much of Kansas City's major financial institutions. The neighborhood is rich in diverse architecture, spanning from historic nineteenth century highrises and classic Art Deco structures such as the Kansas City Power and Light Building, to international, modernist, and postmodern architecture. Many of Kansas City's tallest skyscrapers dominate the area, all with Class A office space, such as One Kansas City Place (Missouri's tallest habitable building), City Center Square, Town Pavilion, and 1201 Walnut. Many of the buildings have light features that illuminate the city's towers at night, contributing to the uniqueness of Kansas City's skyline. Previously, the neighborhood was considered to be primarily a destination for daytime traders and office workers from in and around the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The neighborhood now has a growing number of full-time residents, with estimates made in 2008 showing that there were approximately 16,000 people living in the area, a jump from the ten thousand living there in 2000. Many of the neighborhood's older highrises have been renovated into lofts and condominiums, catering to young professionals living and working in the city.

Downtown Kansas City is the central business district (CBD) of Kansas City, Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is between the Missouri River in the north, to 31st Street in the south; and from the Kansas–Missouri state line eastward to Bruce R. Watkins Drive as defined by the Downtown Council of Kansas City; the 2010 Greater Downtown Area Plan formulated by the City of Kansas City defines the Greater Downtown Area to be the city limits of North Kansas City and Missouri to the north, the Kansas–Missouri state line to the west, 31st Street to the south and Woodland Avenue to the east. However, the definition used by the Downtown Council is the most commonly accepted. In March 2012, Downtown Kansas City was selected as one of America's Best downtowns by Forbes magazine for its rich culture in arts, numerous fountains, upscale shopping, and various local cuisine – most notably barbecue.

The Hotel Phillips, a historic 217-room hotel located on 12th Street in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, opened in 1931.The site was formerly occupied by the Glennon Hotel, in which Harry S. Truman operated a haberdashery shop. That hotel was demolished, and the Phillips was constructed at a cost of $1.6 million, opening in February 1931. The 450-room hotel was the tallest in Kansas City, at 20 stories. The Phillips was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It operated for a time in the 1990s as the Radisson Suite Hotel Kansas City. It was bought by Marcus Hotels in 2001 from Wyndham Hotels. The lobby contains an eleven-foot sculpture of the Goddess of Dawn, created in 1931 by Kansas City sculptor Jorgen Dreyer.The Phillips is located directly across from the historic Hotel Muehlebach building. In October 2015, it was announced that The Phillips was purchased by Arbor Lodging Partners. The Phillips was renovated and joined the Curio Collection by Hilton.

District I is the name of a historic district comprising five historic hotels in downtown Kansas City, Missouri listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1983.The district's five hotels are Dixon Hotel (1912), designed by Sanneman & Van Trump Aladdin Hotel, known in 1983 as Embassy on the Park, a 16-story building Hotel Muehlebach (1915), known in 1983 as Radisson Muehlebach Hotel New Yorker Hotel Hotel PhillipsIn addition to the district, two other hotels were individually listed on the National Register at the same time: Continental Hotel (1923), 106 West 11th Street, a 23-story building that was built as Kansas City Athletic Club. The Midland Theatre is a 3,000-seat theater located in the Power & Light District of Kansas City, Missouri, United States. The National Collegiate Athletic Association under Walter Byers had its headquarters in the building from the 1950s until it moved to 6299 Nall Avenue at Shawnee Mission Parkway in Mission, Kansas in 1971. The theatre was originally known as the Loew's Midland Theatre until 1961. Over the years, the theatre has been known by various names including: Saxon Theatre, Midland Stadium, Midland 1-2-3 Theatre, Midland Theatre and The Midland by AMC, and Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland.

Lightwell Building (formerly City Center Square) is a skyscraper in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, built by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, in the Spring of 1977. It occupies the entire block of 11th Street to 12th Street, and from Main Street to Baltimore Street. Its tower is 30 stories tall, constructed with a reinforced concrete structure evident by the look of the exterior. It is the tenth-tallest habitable structure in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and the fifteenth-tallest habitable structure in Missouri at 404 feet (123 m).In 2003, the property was appraised at $38 million when Citigroup underwrote a $29 million loan. Net operating income was $3.1 million. As the real estate market rose, the property was re-appraised in February 2005 for $60 million and Ally Financial (formerly GMAC) underwrote a $44 million 10-year loan. This loan went delinquent in April 2010. An August 2010 appraisal estimated property value at $38 million, below the $41 million remaining principal. City Center Square was renamed to the Lightwell Building in 2019.

The Hotel Muehlebach ( ) is a historic hotel building in Downtown Kansas City that was visited by every President from Theodore Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan. It is currently operated as one of three wings of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown hotel.

Town Pavilion is a 38-story 180.1 m (591 ft) skyscraper at 1111 Main Street on the northeast corner of 12th and Main Streets in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, around the corner from Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park. The tower occupies the former site of several retail buildings—including Kline's Department Store and Kresge's Dime Store. The 11-story former Harzfeld's Department Store and the former Boley Building were preserved, and have been integrated into the design of Town Pavilion. Completed in 1986, Town Pavilion is the second-tallest habitable building in Kansas City (behind One Kansas City Place), and it is the third-tallest in the state of Missouri (behind One Metropolitan Square in St. Louis). The building's main tenants are Transamerica, Bank Midwest, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is the U.S. standard-setting and regulatory support organization created and governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories.

The Kansas City Club Building is a 15-story building in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, built in 1920. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2002.The building was built as the clubhouse of the Kansas City Club, a private club. It remained the club's clubhouse until 2001, when the club merged with a nearby smaller club. In 2002, a developer bought and renovated the building. The first six floors were a banquet facility called "The Clubhouse on Baltimore." The remaining nine floors were converted to loft apartments called "The Clubhouse Lofts." In 2020 it was converted to the Hotel Kansas City.

The Boley Building in Kansas City, Missouri was designed by Canadian-born American architect Louis Curtiss and built in 1909. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It is the world headquarters for Andrews McMeel Universal, parent company to Universal Uclick, Andrews McMeel Publishing and GoComics.

The 1201 Walnut Building is a Skyscraper located in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, USA, built by HNTB Architects in 1991. Found at the intersection of 12th and Walnut streets, it is the eighth tallest habitable structure in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and the twelfth-tallest habitable structure in Missouri, at 427 feet. The exterior is made of mostly dark-colored glass, and granite panels, and is located one block North of the Power & Light District in downtown Kansas City. In late 2010, building tenant Stinson Leonard Street, LLP acquired the rights to place a large sign and corporate logo atop the southern face of the building.
