Marown

Crosby (Old Norse: Kross-bør – Cross farm or cross roads, market place) (locally ) is a small village located 3+3⁄4 miles (6.0 kilometres) west of Douglas in the parish of Marown in the Isle of Man.

Crosby Railway Station (Manx: Stashoon Raad Yiarn Valley ny Croshey) was an intermediate stop on the Isle of Man Railway; it served the village of Crosby in the Isle of Man and was a stopping place on a line that ran between Douglas and Peel. It was part of the island's first railway line.

The Greeba River is a river in the Isle of Man. Rising on Greeba Mountain above Kerrow Glass and Cooilslieu, the river runs south and east through the village of Greeba and past Greeba Castle before joining the River Dhoo just west of Crosby.

Middle (Manx: Medall) is one of the six sheadings of the Isle of Man. It is located on the east of the island (part of the traditional South Side division) and consists of the four historic parishes of Braddan, Marown, Onchan and Santon. Historically, from 1796 until 1986 Marown was in the sheading of Glenfaba, and before 1796 Onchan was in the sheading of Garff.In addition to the current districts listed above, the sheading of Middle also includes the borough of Douglas, the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. Other settlements in the sheading include Port Soderick, Strang, Tromode and Union Mills (all in the parish of Braddan), Braaid, Crosby and Glen Vine (all in the parish of Marown), and Newtown in the parish of Santon.

St Runius, Marown ("Old Marown Church") dates to the 12th century and was the parish church of Marown until 1853. Today it only holds services for special occasions.

Glen Vine (Manx: Glion Vian) is a village on the Isle of Man in the parish of Marown. It is on the Isle of Man TT course four miles by road from Douglas. The Church of England parish church for Marown is St Runius church in Glen Vine. In 1844, Phillip Killey, who was later to be a Captain of the Parish in Marown, donated land adjoining his estate on the main road between Glen Vine and Crosby for the building of a new church and the foundation stone was laid in 1849. The church, which was designed by the architect Ewan Christian, was consecrated in 1859. A new vestry was added in 1899 and a new roof in 1958, with the south transept eventually converted into a meeting room.The parish primary school, Marown Primary School, was built in the 1980s, and is located in Glen Vine. The school was expanded in 2001.

St Trinian's Church is the roofless ruin of a small chapel at the foot of Greeba Mountain, adjacent to the main A1 Douglas - Peel Road in the parish of Marown, Isle of Man. Referred to in the Manx language as a "Keeil Brisht" (broken church), the church is the source of an ancient Manx folktale concerning the Buggane, a huge mythical ogre who lived on Greeba Mountain and who vowed that the church should never be completed.

Highlander (in Manx: Keeill Brisht – The Broken Church) is situated between the 5th and 6th Milestone road-side markers on the Snaefell Mountain Course used for the Isle of Man TT races on the primary A1 Douglas to Peel road in the parish of Marown in the Isle of Man. The site of a former coaching station, then a restaurant and now a private residence, it is situated in the main Douglas to Peel central valley, where the Greeba River and the former Douglas to Peel railway line run parallel to the A1 main road. The nearby area is mainly farmland with summits of Greeba Mountain 1,385 feet (422 m), Cronk Breck 804 feet (245 m), Cronk-ny-Moghlane 620 feet (189 m) and Slieau Ruy 1,572 feet (479 m) nearby. The area is dominated by the nearby St. Trinian's Church ('Keeill Brisht') built as a chantry in the 14th century for the Priory of Ninian of Whithorn from a previous 12th century building on the site. The chapel fell into disrepair by the 17th century and is associated with the many tales of 'The Buggane of St. Trinian's' and the Highlander tailor who wagered that he could sew a coat sleeve in the haunted church.The Highlander was part of the Four Inch Course used for the Tourist Trophy car races held in the Isle of Man between 1905 and 1922, and was part of the course used for 1905 International Motorcycle Cup races. It is part of the Snaefell Mountain Course used since 1911 for the TT and from 1923 for the Manx Grand Prix races. A series of major safety revisions and alterations to the Snaefell Mountain Course occurred during the winter of 1953/54 in the Isle of Man. This included road widening and re-profiling by the Isle of Man Highway Board on the A1 road between Crosby and Greeba Castle. This included the Highlander area and its nearby jump, and the road jump adjacent to the nearby Ballagarraghyn Cottages were removed for the 1954 Isle of Man TT Races. During the 1954 Senior TT motorcycle solo competitor Simon Sandys-Winsch, a Corporal with the RAF, crashed fatally at the Highlander when riding a 350 cc Velocette in heavy rain and poor road conditions.

Ballagarey (Manx: balley-y-gharee [baləˈɡɛːɾi] – 'sourland, wet area farm') is located between the third and fourth milemarkers used for recognition of the Snaefell Mountain Course road-racing circuit on the primary A1 Douglas to Peel road, in the parish of Marown in the Isle of Man.

Greeba Castle is a castle on the Isle of Man.

The Steam Heritage Trail is a rail trail and heritage trail that links the east and west coasts of the Isle of Man. The trail links Douglas to Peel. Sections were relaid in 2019 and 2020.In August 2020, the Isle of Man Government, published plans to add a spur from St John's on the heritage trail to Kirk Michael.

The Braaid is an Iron Age roundhouse and two Norse long houses on this site represent its occupation until the 11th or 12th century AD in the parish of Marown in the Isle of Man. The site uniquely brings together buildings of Iron Age and Viking styles that were used together and survive down to the present. The site lies between Braaid hamlet and Mount Murray at which reference an area map can be viewed. Also nearby is The Broogh Fort (54°08′09″N 4°34′39″W).
