St Teilo's Church, Llantilio Pertholey

Llantilio Pertholey (Welsh: Llandeilo Bertholau) is a small village and community (parish) in Monmouthshire, south east Wales. It is located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the north-east of the market town of Abergavenny, which it is part of, just off the A465 road to Hereford. The parish covers a large area beneath the Skirrid, an outlier of the Black Mountains; much of the parish lies within the easternmost part of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The A465 is a trunk road that runs from Bromyard in Herefordshire, England to Llandarcy near Swansea in South Wales. The western half is known officially as the Neath to Abergavenny Trunk Road, but the section from Abergavenny to the Vale of Neath is more commonly referred to as the Heads of the Valleys Road because it links the northern heads of the South Wales Valleys. Approximately following the southern boundary of the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Ordnance Survey Pathfinder guide describes it as the unofficial border between rural and industrial South Wales. The A465 provides an alternative route between England and the counties in South West Wales and to the ferries to Ireland.

The River Gavenny or sometimes the Gavenny River (Welsh: Afon Gafenni) is a short river in Monmouthshire in south Wales. It rises 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of the village of Llanvihangel Crucorney from springs near Penyclawdd Court, supplemented by springs in Blaen-Gavenny Wood and tributary streams there and within the Woodland Trust-owned Great Triley Wood. It flows south for about 4 miles (6.4 km) to its confluence with the River Usk towards the eastern end of Castle Meadows at Abergavenny. The town derives its English-language name from the Gavenny's confluence ('aber' in Welsh) with the River Usk. Of the buildings on the banks of the river, the Gothic Decorated style church of St Teilo at Llantilio Pertholey (OS grid ref SO 3114 1633) is especially notable. Parts of the church date from the thirteenth century with multiple additions since. Blaengavenny Farm, the name of which signifies the 'head of the Gavenny', is a sixteenth-century farmhouse near the river's source.The diminutive Gavenny is something of a misfit stream in its broad valley. This is due to the deposition of a spectacular terminal moraine at Llanvihangel Crucorney which has diverted the former headwaters of the river eastwards into the Wye catchment. It is believed that the River Honddu which rises in the Black Mountains and possibly also the upper River Monnow formerly flowed in the valley of the Gavenny to join the Usk.

Abergavenny Junction railway station was a station situated near the junction made between the London and North Western Railway's Heads of the Valleys line and the West Midland Railway's Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway, which served the town of Abergavenny in the Welsh county of Monmouthshire.

Maindiff Court Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Maindiff Court) is a community hospital near Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. It is managed by the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Its most noted patient was Rudolf Hess, deputy to Adolf Hitler.

Wern-ddu farmhouse, Llantilio Pertholey, Monmouthshire is a farmhouse of 17th century origins. It has been significantly altered in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and the Monmouthshire antiquarian, Sir Joseph Bradney recorded that it had "suffered so much by continual alterations that it shows but little of its antiquity". It is a Grade II* listed building.

Pen-y-Fal Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Pen-y-Fal) was a psychiatric hospital in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. The main building is Grade II listed.

King Henry VIII 3-19 School Abergavenny (Welsh: Ysgol y Brenin Harri VIII) is an English-language comprehensive school situated in the town of Abergavenny, in the county of Monmouthshire, Wales.

Bailey Park is an urban park in the town of Abergavenny, in Monmouthshire Wales. It was founded in 1884 on land donated by Crawshay Bailey, Junior. The park is home to Abergavenny Rugby Football Club. In the 20th century, the park had a lido, but this was later decommissioned and demolished, although a campaigning group is working for its reinstatement. Bailey Park is registered Grade II on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. The entrance gates, gate piers, walls and railings on the Hereford Road are listed at Grade II. The park is managed by Monmouthshire County Council.

Priory is an electoral ward in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. The ward elects councillors to Abergavenny Town Council and Monmouthshire County Council. The ward covers the central area of the town northeast of the main shopping area, bounded to the north by Park Crescent and surrounding Bailey Park.According to the 2001 UK Census the population of the ward was 1,942, increasing to 2,196 by the 2011 UK Census.

Abergavenny (; Welsh: Y Fenni pronounced [ə ˈvɛnɪ], archaically Abergafenni meaning "mouth of the River Gavenny") is a market town and community in Monmouthshire, Wales. Abergavenny is promoted as a Gateway to Wales; it is approximately 6 miles (10 km) from the border with England and is located where the A40 trunk road and the recently upgraded A465 Heads of the Valleys road meet.Originally the site of a Roman fort, Gobannium, it became a medieval walled town within the Welsh Marches. The town contains the remains of a medieval stone castle built soon after the Norman conquest of Wales. Abergavenny is situated at the confluence of the River Usk and a tributary stream, the Gavenny. It is almost entirely surrounded by mountains and hills: the Blorenge (559 m, 1,834 ft), the Sugar Loaf (596 m, 1,955 ft), Ysgyryd Fawr (Great Skirrid), Ysgyryd Fach (Little Skirrid), Deri, Rholben and Mynydd Llanwenarth, known locally as "Llanwenarth Breast". Abergavenny provides access to the nearby Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Marches Way and Beacons Way pass through Abergavenny whilst the Offa's Dyke Path passes through Pandy five miles to the north and the Usk Valley Walk passes through nearby Llanfoist. In the UK 2011 census, the six relevant wards (Lansdown, Grofield, Castle, Croesonen, Cantref and Priory) collectively listed Abergavenny's population as 12,515. The town hosted the 2016 National Eisteddfod of Wales.
