Koothattukulam

Koothattukulam is a municipality in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. It is located 32 km (19.9 mi) south of the district collectorate in Thrikkakara and about 156 km (96.9 mi) north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. As per the 2011 Indian census, Koothattukulam has a population of 17,253 people, and a population density of 755/km2 (1,960/sq mi). The majority of people living in Koothattukulam are Syrian Christians. St. John's Orthodox Syrian church at Vadakara, Koothattukulam is one of the oldest Syrian Christian churches in Malankara. It was established in the 1096 by the Syrian Christians of Piravom Syrian Valiyapally. Mary John Koothattukulam, Malayalam language poet who won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions C. J. Thomas (1918–1960), an Indian playwright and literary critic of Malayalam literature. He was best known for his plays, Aa Manushyan Nee Thanne, Avan Venndum Varunnu and 1128-il Crime 27 which introduced modernity into Malayalam theatre. He was also a leader of the Vimochana Samaram, an anti-communist uprising against the First E. M. S. Namboodiripad ministry in Kerala. Shibu Chacko, Organ Donation Ambassador NHS Blood and Transplant UK[1], campaigner for organ donation awareness in the UK, was given Member of British Empire award in recognition of the community and voluntary activities. He is the first Keralite to receive the [Birthday Honours|MBE] from the British Royal Family in 2019.
