The JANAF Shopping Yard, commonly known as JANAF, is a suburban shopping center located in Norfolk, Virginia. Opening in 1959, it was one of the first large suburban shopping centers in the United States. The name is an acronym for Joint Army Navy Air Force, which refers to the original investment group that was composed of retired and active duty military personnel.JANAF was built at the north-east corner of Military Highway and Virginia Beach Boulevard on property which had formerly been used as an airfield. It occupies more than 80 acres and encompasses more than 880,000 SF. It is across Virginia Beach Boulevard from Military Circle Mall, an indoor mall built in 1970. On July 19, 2016, it was announced that the owner of the McKinley, Inc was placing the shopping center up for sale. CBRE Hampton Roads will represent the owner in sales negotiations.Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc., a company with a primary focus on grocery-anchored centers, said January 22, 2018, that WHLR-JANAF LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm, has purchased JANAF Shopping Yard shopping center in Norfolk for $85.6 million. At 887,917 square-feet, JANAF is the largest open-air shopping center in the region. According to CBRE broker Ryan Sciullo who, along with Bill Kent, handled the sale, the transaction represents the largest non-mall retail sale in Hampton Roads in the past five years.

Poplar Hall is a historic plantation house located at Norfolk, Virginia. It was built about 1760, and is a two-story, five-bay, Georgian style brick dwelling. It is covered with a slate gable roof and has interior end chimneys. It features a central one-bay dwarf portico and a low, hipped roof topped by a three-bay cupola. Both entrances are sheltered by a dwarf portico. A one-story brick wing was added about 1860, a frame addition in 1955, and a one-story frame wing in 1985. Also on the property is a contributing dairy. The house was built for Thurmer Hoggard, a planter and ship's carpenter who developed a private shipyard on the site.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Military Highway is a Tide Light Rail station in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. It opened in August 2011, and is situated along Military Highway. It is adjacent to a park and ride and connects with several bus routes.

Lake Taylor High School is a public high school located in Norfolk, Virginia and is the "Home of the Mighty Titans". It is administered by Norfolk City Public Schools. The school colors are red and black and its mascot is the Titans. Lake Taylor High is also the home to a NJROTC program and is called The Academy of Leadership and Military Science.

The Indian River is a 4.8-mile-long (7.7 km), primarily tidal river located entirely within the city of Chesapeake, Virginia, in the United States. It is a tributary of the Eastern Branch Elizabeth River, leading to the harbor of Hampton Roads.

Newtown Road is a Tide Light Rail station in Norfolk, Virginia. It opened in August 2011 and is situated on Curlew Drive at the city line between Norfolk and Virginia Beach. It is currently the eastern terminus of the line. The station is adjacent to the Interstate Corporate Center and the Sentara Leigh Hospital.

Woodlawn Memorial Gardens is a cemetery located in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. Established as a private, family owned cemetery in 1958, Woodlawn Memorial Gardens encompasses seventy-five acres of land, 40 of which are undeveloped, at the Norfolk and Virginia Beach borders in Southeastern Virginia adjacent to Virginia Beach Boulevard and Newtown Road. Woodlawn has seventeen gardens including three Veteran's sections, a large community mausoleum, two semi-private mausoleums, an Orthodox Jewish section, and private family compounds.

WVBW-FM airs an urban adult hits radio format and is owned and operated by Max Media. The studios and offices are on Greenwich Road in Virginia Beach.WVBW-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 50,000 watts. The transmitter is off Gammon Road, also in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU) is a private university in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The university is nonsectarian but historically affiliated with The United Methodist Church. It enrolls 1,607 students annually in undergraduate and graduate programs, 355 students at LUJ/VWU Global (Japan), and 1,403 in VWU Online (Continuing Education). Virginia Wesleyan transitioned from a college to a university in 2017.The Virginia Wesleyan University campus is also home to the Chesapeake Bay Academy, an educational institution that educates and guides students with learning disabilities, including attention disorders (ADHD), dyslexia, and dysgraphia, and the Tidewater Collegiate Academy, an innovative laboratory for teaching and learning that extends from the primary grades through high school. The Thomas Murray House is a colonial home situated on the Eastern Branch Elizabeth River at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The house was constructed in 1791 by Isaac Murray for his son, Thomas. The house was saved from being demolished in the 1950s and restored to its original elegance. The house features a dated brick on the top of the eastern chimney with the initials "I.M" (for Isaac Murray) and the date of "1791". The house was built with a central floor plan. A Recreation "Smokehouse" and "carriage house" were added to the property in 1988. The property has the original working well. Across the River the Richard Murray house is visible. The Thomas Murray house was the only Murray house built on the Eastern Branch Elizabeth River.The Murrays were a prominent family of Princess Anne County. The first Murray, David, came as an indentured servant in 1622, earning 650 acres which were then passed down to later generations of Murrays. The Murrays grew flax as a cash crop and prepared flax fiber for rope making. The original flax drying shed is still on the Richard Murray property today.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Norfolk Academy (NA) is an independent co-educational day school in Norfolk, Virginia. Chartered in 1728, it is the oldest private school in Virginia and the eighth oldest school in the United States. In 1966, Norfolk Academy merged with Country Day School for Girls in Virginia Beach, Virginia to create the current co-educational school. It serves students in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk. In sports, NA competes in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools (TCIS) as well as in the Virginia Preparatory League (males) and the League of Independent Schools (females).

Metropolitan Memorial Park aka Met Park was a baseball stadium in Norfolk, Virginia. Built in 1969, it was the home to the Norfolk Tides (known at that time as the Tidewater Tides) until the construction of Harbor Park was completed for the Tides to play the 1993 season there. Met Park sat 6,200, and was located near the end of the primary runway of the Norfolk International Airport. This often proved distracting to fans and players when aircraft flew overhead, but inadvertently proved strategic – as the AAA franchise of the New York Mets, players for the Tides could hope to someday be called to play in Shea Stadium, the location of which endures similar noise from nearby LaGuardia Airport. After Met Park was demolished following the Tides' move to Harbor Park, the city built the Lake Wright Executive Center on the former Met Park land.
