Whitsett Historic District (Whitsett, Pennsylvania)

Whitsett is an unincorporated community in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States, approximately 30 miles (50 km) south of Pittsburgh. The population is estimated at 200. It was founded in 1845 by Ralph C. Whitsett Sr. He and his family built a large red brick house in 1873, which still stands today. The community is made up of mostly “company” houses that were built for workers who worked in a large coal mine located nearby; the mine was Banning #21. Most of the houses were semi-detached "twins" built to accommodate two families. The mine has been closed since 1954 and most of the houses have been renovated and turned into single-family dwellings.

Perry Township is a township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,339 at the 2020 census, a decline from the figure of 2,552 tabulated in 2010. The Frazier School District serves the township. Star Junction, Wickhaven, Whitsett, Banning and Layton are unincorporated communities within the township. The borough of Perryopolis, a separate municipality, lies enclaved at the center of the township.

Frazier High School is a rural, public high school. It is the sole high school in the Frazier School District. It is in northern Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in the town of Perryopolis. In the 2015–2016 school year, enrollment was reported as 340 pupils in 9th through 12th grades. Frazier High School was established in 1966, and resulted in the consolidation of the Perry and Lower Tyrone School Districts. The school was last renovated in 1990, when space was reconfigured for the addition of the Frazier Middle School, the high school's sole feeder. The name comes from Mary Fuller Frazier, a wealthy resident who gave an endowment to the district for the improvement of the school system. The Intermediate Unit IU1 provides the school and the district with a wide variety of services like specialized education for disabled students and hearing, background checks for employees, state mandated recognizing and reporting child abuse training, speech and visual disability services and criminal background check processing for prospective employees and professional development for staff and faculty.

Perryopolis is a borough in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The borough is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The population was 1,705 at the 2020 census.

The Youghiogheny Bank of Pennsylvania, also known as the Old State Bank, is an historic, American bank building that is located in Perryopolis, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

The Banning Railroad Bridge is a structure that carries the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway across the Youghiogheny River in Perry Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The bridge was constructed in 1930 by the American Bridge Company as part of the major railroad to be built in Pennsylvania. Like the Speers Railroad Bridge along the same route, the structure uses a "K-truss" design that is extremely uncommon outside of the Great Plains states. Although once part of a critical connection between the Pittsburgh industrial region and the Western Maryland Railroad, today the bridge sees light traffic and is mainly used for the transportation of coal.

St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, also known as St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church, is a historic Catholic Church church at 504 S. Liberty Street in Perryopolis, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It was built between 1912 and 1918, and is a 30 feet by 60 feet yellow brick building in the Byzantine Revival style. It has a cruciform plan and the gabled roof is topped by four onion domes. The church served a community of Rusyns who originally settled in the area prior to 1907. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Providence Quaker Cemetery and Chapel, also known as Providence Meeting House, is a historic chapel and cemetery located on Quaker Church Road about 2 miles southwest of Perryopolis, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The cemetery was used by Quakers, but the chapel is not a Quaker structure. Quakers generally refer to a structure built for worship as a meeting house, rather than as a chapel or church.

Searight's Fulling Mill is a historic fulling mill located at Perryopolis, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA. It was built about 1810 and is a 2 1/2-story, sandstone building with a gable roof. It measures approximately 20 by 30 feet (6.1 by 9.1 m). The mill closed in the 1820s and was converted to a dwelling. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The mill is named after William Searight, who built the mill on a farm previously owned by George Washington. Searight is credited for realizing that small fulling mills could not compete with city based factories served by railroads, and left the fulling business before his mills became unprofitable.

Jacobs Creek is a 33.4-mile-long (53.8 km) tributary of the Youghiogheny River beginning in Acme, Pennsylvania and draining at its mouth in the town of Jacobs Creek into the Youghiogheny River. Jacobs Creek is the southwestern border of Westmoreland County and the northwestern border of Fayette County. The area was a major producer of rye whiskey in the decades before Prohibition.
