Ashill, Devon

Blackborough House is a grade II listed privately owned country house in Blackborough, Devon, three miles (5 km) east of Cullompton. It was built in 1838 and as of 2023 is undergoing restoration.

Blackborough is a hamlet and former manor in the parish of Kentisbeare, Devon, England. It is situated within the Mid Devon district. The nearest substantial town is Cullompton, approximately 4.7 miles (7.6 km) to the south-west. Within Blackborough are situated the large mansion of Blackborough House also notable are Hayne Farm and the Old Smithy. The former neo-Gothic Early English style parish church of All Saints, built in 1838 by George Wyndham, 4th Earl of Egremont, lord of the manor, who also built Blackborough House was demolished in 1994, having become structurally unsafe. The churchyard however is still maintained and the ecclesiastical parish and parochial church council still exist.

The line ran approximately 9 miles from the Bristol to Penzance main line at Tiverton Junction to Hemyock on the Somerset border. Since closure the station area has been totally redeveloped.

First mentioned in a charter dating back to 1136, the present church has a mixture of medieval and Victorian architecture and is a Grade II* listed building. Uffculme (, UF-kəm) is a village and civil parish located in the Mid Devon district, of Devon, England. Situated in the Blackdown Hills on the B3440, close to the M5 motorway and the Bristol–Exeter railway line, near Cullompton, Uffculme is on the upper reaches of the River Culm. The population of the parish, according to a 2020 estimate, is 3,090. It is surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Culmstock, Hemyock, Sheldon, Kentisbeare, Cullompton, Willand, Halberton and Burlescombe.

Bodmiscombe Preceptory was a priory in Devon, England. It was run by the Knights Hospitaller and was possibly founded during the reign on Henry III and dissolved into Buckland Abbey in the 15th century.

Coldharbour Mill, near the village of Uffculme in Devon, England, is one of the oldest woollen textile mills in the world, having been in continuous production since 1797. The mill was one of a number owned by Fox Brothers, and is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building.

Uffculme School is a mixed secondary school located in Uffculme in the English county of Devon.Previously a community school administered by Devon County Council, Uffculme School was converted to academy status on 1 September 2010. However the school continues to co-ordinate admissions with Devon County Council. As of 2014, pupils were normally admitted from Burlescombe CE Primary School, Culmstock Primary School, Hemyock Primary School, Kentisbeare CE Primary School, Sampford Peverell CE Primary School, Uffculme Primary School, Uplowman CE Primary School and Webber's CE Primary School.Uffculme School offers GCSE, BTEC and Cambridge Nationals courses as programmes of study for pupils. In addition, the school offers a range of vocational courses in conjunction with Petroc College and Bicton College. It is a specialist maths, computing and applied learning college.

Culmstock is a village and civil parish in Mid Devon, England, centred 10 miles from Tiverton and 6 NE of Cullompton. It is laid out on both sides of the River Culm; the village is joined by a single old narrow stone bridge across the river. The population of the parish at the 2011 Census was 554. The northern boundary of the parish forms part of the Devon – Somerset border and clockwise from there it is surrounded by the Devon parishes of Hemyock, Uffculme, Burlescombe and Holcombe Rogus.Historically, in minor matters of law and taxation, Culmstock contributed to Hemyock Hundred. It saw prosperity as a centre of weaving and the wool trade, but this prosperity, and the relative population to that nationally, declined considerably in the latter part of the Industrial Revolution. The population was around 1446 for the forty years before the 1841 census but fell in the next 40 years to 863. In 1961 after a non-linear descent, the population was 692, broadly similar to today's total.
