IBM railway station

Spango Valley is a steep sided valley to the south-west of Greenock, Scotland. It runs approximately south west to north east for around 2.4 km (1.5 mi) from the confluence of the Spango Burn and Kip Water near Dunrod Farm, to Ravenscraig at the present day Aileymill Gardens. A small stream known as the Spango Burn, runs along the valley floor. The originally meandering burn has been channelised and straightened for much of its length as it runs south west through the valley.

Braeside is a neighbourhood situated on the far west side of Greenock, in Inverclyde, Scotland. It has one primary schools in its vicinity, Aileymill, a high school Inverclyde Academy and used to have a special needs school for handicapped children, Glenburn which for a while was ear marked to be demolished and become the site of Scotland's new national female prison HMP Inverclyde however this is no longer happening. It has a pub which is very much a village pub "the burns lounge " known as the burns .Like many of Greenock's estates it is named after the farm which once stood on its site.During drainage work in 1955 a cow horn was found, about 4 feet (1.2 m) below ground level. It contained around sixty Scottish coins dating from 1543 to around 1570, implying that the hoard was buried in the mid-1570s. The earlier coins date from the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots, and testoons and other coins are from the reign of James VI of Scotland. The horn disintegrated, and while some of the coins were given to children and have not been traced, 20 coins were placed in the collection of the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, and 30 went to the McLean Museum in Greenock.

Ravenscraig railway station was a railway station located south west of the town of Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, originally as part of the Greenock and Wemyss Bay Railway and later owned by the Caledonian Railway. The Greenock suburbs now border the site of the station, but When the station opened in 1865, the area was entirely farmland, the nearest suburb being 1.5 miles (2.4 km) away at Cornhaddock. Even when the station closed in 1944, it was still some distance from the nearest suburb, which was 1.0 mile (1.6 km) away at Gateside.Smithston Poorhouse and Asylum opened in 1879, this was located around 0.7 miles (1.1 km) from the station as the crow flies. It was renamed Ravenscraig Hospital when it came under NHS control in 1948. This was four years after the station closed, therefore the name of the station and that of the hospital are not directly connected.

Ravenscraig Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium, in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The stadium is primarily set up for athletics, with a running track, but it is also the traditional home of Greenock Juniors Football Club. The stadium underwent a £1.7 million refurbishment in preparation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.The stadium was built in 1958 with a cinder track, upgraded to synthetic in 1992. Replacement floodlighting was announced in 2015.In the 1959–60 season, a capacity crowd of 8,200 watched Greenock Juniors draw 1–1 in a Scottish Junior Cup quarter final with Johnstone Burgh. In November 1972 the stadium hosted the first ever official international women's football match to be played in Great Britain. Scotland was defeated 3–2 by England. This was almost exactly a hundred years after the first men's international between the two nations.

Inverclyde Academy is a secondary school in Greenock, Scotland that provides education to the majority of the Inverclyde area. The catchment area for the Academy stretches from the Inverclyde border at Wemyss Bay to Greenock's East End and Strone Farm areas. The school was created by the amalgamation of Greenock High School and Wellington Academy and cost £29 million to open.

Branchton (Scots: Branchtoun, Scottish Gaelic: Brainsdean) is an area within the Scottish town of Greenock, in Inverclyde. Tenements used to dominate the area, which acquired a reputation as socially disadvantaged, but a recent cash injection means that the area is being redeveloped with new housing and community projects. Branchton railway station is on the Wemyss Bay to Glasgow Central line. The road up to the Branchton houses from the main A78 Inverkip road rises up an embankment and over a railway bridge just to the north of the station.

Inverclyde Royal Hospital is a district general hospital in Greenock which serves a population area of 125,000 consisting of Inverclyde (including Greenock), Largs, Isle of Bute and Cowal Peninsula. Inverclyde Royal Hospital is one of three main hospitals in the South Clyde area, alongside Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria and Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and is managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Branchton railway station is a railway station in Scotland opened in 1967 under British Rail located in the south-west of the town of Greenock, beside the area called Branchton. The station is on the Inverclyde Line, 24+3⁄4 mi (40 km) west of Glasgow Central. The station is managed by ScotRail.

Gourock High School was a non-denominational comprehensive school catering for boys and girls, 11–18 years of age, in Gourock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. The school taught around 630 pupils. The school motto was Honor Diligentiae Praemium, which means "The reward for hard work is renown". Willie Todd had been headteacher since February 2008. The school was ranked 22nd in a listing of the top 50 secondary schools in Scotland in 2005.

Gourock ( GOOR-ək; Scottish Gaelic: Guireag [ˈkuɾʲak]) is a town in the Inverclyde council area and formerly a burgh of the County of Renfrew in the west of Scotland. It was a seaside resort on the East shore of the upper Firth of Clyde. Its main function today is as a residential area, extending contiguously from Greenock, with a railway terminus and ferry services across the Clyde.

The Cragburn Pavilion was built in Gourock in 1935-6 by J. & J.A. Carrick, in brick and stucco with prominent art deco fluting along its front North-facing elevation. It consisted of a large auditorium with stage, ancillary rooms and a restaurant/bar area.Cragburn was built to try to attract a greater share of Scotland's growing holiday trade. Many local bands played regularly for dancers from 1936 to 1966 including Charlie Harkin's Kit Kat Orchestra and Henri Morrison and his Swingstars. Both bands were contenders in the All British Dance Band Championships. As Cragburn became established, many of Britain's top bands visited Cragburn, including Joe Loss, Oscar Rabin, Lew Stone, and many more. Cragburn also hosted a summer show each year with top artists from Scotland including Tommy Morgan, Alec Finlay, Larry Marshall, and The One O-Clock Gang. As the pop scene started taking over in the 1960s, the big band scene started to go into decline, and although the pavilion continued to be used as a facility for variety shows, pantomimes and functions by the local authority who owned it, it was becoming clear that greater financial benefit could be had by selling off the land for development. Cragburn pavilion was closed in the 1990s, and a block of flats has been built on the original site.
