Naval Air Station Weeksville

Weeksville in an unincorporated community in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, United States. It lies roughly midway on NC 344, at an elevation of 3 feet (0.91 m). The community is home to Weeksville Elementary School, a Methodist church, gas station, volunteer fire department, Lions Club chapter and county recycling center. Of historical significance are the facilities of the dirigible manufacturer TCom, located on the former grounds of Naval Air Station Weeksville. Two dirigible hangars, one steel and one wooden, were constructed at NAS Weeksville in 1942. The larger wooden hangar, one of the largest wooden structures in the world, succumbed to fire on August 3, 1995. The slightly smaller steel hangar, the Weeksville Dirigible Hangar, one of the world's largest steel structures, remains as of 2015.During World War II flight operations out of NAS Weeksville were instrumental in repelling German U-boat attacks on Allied merchant shipping along the Eastern Seaboard.It is part of the Elizabeth City Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The Battle of Elizabeth City of the American Civil War was fought in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Roanoke Island. It took place on 10 February 1862, on the Pasquotank River near Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The participants were vessels of the U.S. Navy's North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, opposed by vessels of the Confederate Navy's Mosquito Fleet; the latter were supported by a shore-based battery of four guns at Cobb's Point (now called Cobb Point), near the southeastern border of the town. The battle was a part of the campaign in North Carolina that was led by Major General Ambrose E. Burnside and known as the Burnside Expedition. The result was a Union victory, with Elizabeth City and its nearby waters in their possession, and the Confederate fleet captured, sunk, or dispersed.

Elizabeth City Regional Airport (IATA: ECG, ICAO: KECG, FAA LID: ECG) is a joint civil-military public and military use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) southeast of the central business district of Elizabeth City, in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, United States. The airport, on the shore of the Pasquotank River, is also known as Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Regional Airport or ECG Regional Airport. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.The airport opened in 1972 and is shared with and owned by the U.S. Coast Guard. The military portion of the facility, known as Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City and Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, operates HC-130J Hercules and MH-60T Jayhawk aircraft.

Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City is a United States Coast Guard Air Station co-located at Elizabeth City Regional Airport in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, along the Pasquotank River near the opening of the Albemarle Sound. The base has a garrison of approximately 855 officers and enlisted. The Coast Guard air station is also one of the busiest in the U.S. Coast Guard, operating missions as far away as Greenland, the Azores and the Caribbean.

CSS Sea Bird was a sidewheel steamer in the Confederate States Navy. Sea Bird was built at Keyport, New Jersey in 1854, was purchased by North Carolina at Norfolk, Virginia in 1861 and fitted for service with the Confederate States Navy. She was assigned to duty along the Virginia and North Carolina coasts with Lieutenant Patrick McCarrick, CSN, in command. Sea Bird served as the flagship of Confederate Flag Officer William F. Lynch's "Mosquito Fleet" during the hard-fought battles in defense of Roanoke Island on February 7–8, 1862, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina, on February 10 when she was rammed and sunk by USS Commodore Perry. Her casualties were two killed, four wounded, and the rest captured.

Black Warrior is the name of a Confederate two-masted schooner that participated in the defense of Roanoke Island in North Carolina during the Civil War. Its brief wartime career ended with its burning at Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

The district encompasses six contributing buildings and one contributing site originally built for the State Colored Normal School at Elizabeth City. The buildings are in the Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman architectural styles.

It enrolls nearly 2,500 students in 28 undergraduate programs and 4 graduate programs and is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the University of North Carolina system.

The R.L. Vaughan Center is a 5,000 seat multi-purpose arena in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. It was built in 1976. It is the home of the Elizabeth City State Vikings basketball and volleyball teams.

Riverside Historic District is a national historic district located at Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 68 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in a predominantly residential section of Elizabeth City. The district developed after 1893, and includes representative examples of Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Bungalow / American Craftsman, and Tudor Revival style architecture. Notable contributing buildings include the Preyer-Cropsey-Outlaw House, Markham-Bell House, Bascom S. Sawyer House, Grover Hill House, Montgomery-Corbett House, Dr. Mora S. Bulla House, the W. Paul Jackson House, Jaccia F. Burrus House, Miles L. Clark House (c. 1926), and Calvary Baptist Church.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Roebuck Stadium is a 5,000-seat multi-use stadium in the southern area of Elizabeth City, North Carolina on the campus of Elizabeth City State University. The stadium is known mostly as the home of the school's football team though it is also used by the track & field team and occasionally by local soccer teams.
