Mawson Lakes is a residential suburb in the City of Salisbury, Adelaide, Australia. Named in honor of Sir Douglas Mawson, it has a census area population of 10,872 people. The suburb is located in the northern suburbs of Adelaide around 12 km north of the Central business district. Much of the suburb was previously known as The Levels, and was a non-residential area, housing a campus of the University of South Australia and Technology Park Adelaide.

Mawson Lakes is a railway station and bus interchange in the Adelaide suburb of Mawson Lakes. It is located on the Gawler line, 14.3 kilometres (8.9 mi) north of Adelaide station. To the west of the station lies the Australian Rail Track Corporation standard gauge line to Crystal Brook.

Elder Smith Road is an east-west arterial road in northern Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. It opened in 2007 to connect Main North Road to Salisbury Highway, including a new bridge crossing the Gawler railway line and Adelaide–Port Augusta railway line. It lies entirely in or forms the border of the suburb of Mawson Lakes. It extends west past Salisbury Highway to provide access to a housing estate in Mawson Lakes on the south side and an industrial area of Greenfields on the north side. At Main North Road, it connects to the junction where Maxwell Road continues as the border between Para Hills West and Pooraka.The Mawson Connector Project built Elder Smith Road in two stages, and also the new Mawson Lakes railway station below the bridge over the railway lines. Construction began in January 2005 and it was completed in September 2007 for a total cost of A$44.3 million.

Greenfields railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated adjacent to Parafield Airport, in the northern Adelaide suburb of Parafield, it is 15.5 kilometres (9.6 mi) from Adelaide station.

Pooraka is a suburb in Adelaide, South Australia. It is 12 kilometres north of the central business district.

Playford is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the long serving South Australian premier Tom Playford, it is a 22.7 km² suburban electorate in Adelaide's north, taking in the suburbs of Green Fields, Mawson Lakes, Para Hills, Para Hills West, Parafield and Parafield Gardens. Playford was created as a safe Labor seat and was first contested at the 1970 election, where it was won by Labor candidate Terry McRae. At the 1989 election, McRae resigned from politics, with the seat won by Labor candidate John Quirke. Though typically a safe Labor seat, the seat technically became marginal, reduced to just a 2.7 percent two-party margin at the 1993 election landslide. At the 1997 election, Quirke resigned to enter the Australian Senate, with the seat won by Labor candidate Jack Snelling.

Parafield Gardens railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated adjacent to Parafield Airport, in the northern Adelaide suburb of Parafield Gardens, it is 16.6 kilometres (10.3 mi) from Adelaide station.

The District Council of Yatala was a local government area of South Australia established in 1853 and abolished in 1868. The council was named after the Hundred of Yatala which was proclaimed in 1846 in the County of Adelaide, Yatala likely deriving from a Kaurna word 'yartala' referring to the flooded state of the plain either side of Dry Creek after heavy rain. The name was used to describe a large portion of the Adelaide Plains from Port Adelaide in the west to Tea Tree Gully in the east.

Green Fields is a suburb of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. It is around 13 km north of the city centre, and mostly consists of industrial warehouses and light industry.

Parafield Gardens is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. The suburb is largely residential, with a pocket of industrial land in the southwest corner. There are two small shopping centres in the area, one on Salisbury Highway, and another on Sheperdson Road.

Adelaide Youth Training Centre (also known as Kurlana Tapa – "New Path") is a youth detention centre at two campuses in Cavan, an industrial northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is operated by the Government of South Australia Department of Human Services, unlike adult prisons which are operated by the Department for Correctional Services.

Parafield Airport (ICAO: YPPF) is on the edge of the residential suburb of Parafield, South Australia, 18 km (11 mi) north of the Adelaide city centre and adjacent to the Mawson Lakes campus of the University of South Australia. It is Adelaide's second airport and the third busiest airport in Australia by aircraft movements. Although owned by the Government of Australia, the airport is leased to and managed independently by Parafield Airport Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Adelaide Airport Limited.Parafield was Adelaide's only civil airport until Adelaide Airport was opened in February 1955 and is currently used for small aircraft, pilot training and recreational aviation. The airport is home to the University of South Australia Aviation Academy. The airport hosts a jet fighter museum and historic aircraft displays. The museum now houses an authentic flight worthy Wirraway. There are also multiple flight training schools including the University of South Australia Aviation Academy, FTA (Flight Training Adelaide) formerly known as Australian Aviation College, Bruce Hartwig Flying School, AFTC (Adelaide Flight Training Centre), Aerostar Aviation, and Parafield Flying Centre. Parafield Squadron of the Australian Air League, a national uniformed cadet organisation promoting and encouraging the interest of aviation and flying training in the youth of Australia, is also located at Parafield Airport.
