St. Joseph's Catholic Church is a historic Roman Catholic church in Topeka, Kansas, United States. It was established to serve the needs of the growing population of Volga Germans, ethnic Germans from Russia. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Placesin 1971. It was deemed "an outstanding Kansas example of a large 19th century brick church building."It is a red brick church. Its NRHP nomination states: "Most impressive to one approaching the church are the two identical steeples towering over all the neighboring buildings and trees. These towers begin as squares and then are quite nicely transformed into octagons. This transformation is executed very gracefully by first cutting off the square corners at the clock level; the next logical step is an octagon roof with equal sides."

The Fire Station No. 2 in Topeka, Kansas, at 719-723 Van Buren, is a fire station which was built in 1927. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 as Fire Station No. 2-Topeka.It was designed by architect Thomas Wilson Williamson in 1927 to serve as Topeka's Fire Department Headquarters and as fire station for Company No. 2. It is a two-and-a-half-story building with elements of Mediterranean Revival style (within broader Spanish Colonial Revival style) including its wrought iron balcony railings and its Spanish tile roof. Its modern features included a 60 feet (18 m) high fire drill tower, which was removed in 1967, and a fire alarm center.It was remodeled in 1979 to serve as the Topeka Emergency Communication Center (TECOM), Topeka's then-new combined fire and police dispatch and 911 center.

Church of the Assumption and Rectory is a historic church and rectory at 204 SW 8th Street in Topeka, Kansas. The church was built in 1924 and added to the National Register in 2008.The Assumption Rectory was completed in 1929 and is an example of Renaissance Revival style.

The Upstage Gallery features artists from Topeka, Kansas and the surrounding areas since February 2007. The gallery is located in the future lobby of the Jayhawk State Theatre of Kansas. The Jayhawk will include a gallery space and museum in its reconstruction and The Upstage Gallery furthers the Jayhawk mission statement in this regard.

The St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Topeka, Kansas is a historic church at 701 SW Topeka Boulevard. It was built in 1908 to 1926 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. It is built of square-cut native limestone. Stages of construction were completed in 1918, 1920, and 1926.

The Hughes Conoco Service Station, at 400 SW. Taylor St. in Topeka, Kansas, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.It was built in 1930.It includes elements of Tudor Revival and other Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals architectural styling.

The Sumner Elementary School in Topeka, Kansas was involved in the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka case in 1954. Linda Brown's attempted enrollment to the Sumner School was rejected by the Topeka Board of Education, thus forcing her to attend the all-black Monroe School, which was farther away from her home. Oliver Brown, Linda's father, then joined the class action lawsuit against the Topeka Board of Education that was eventually heard before the Supreme Court. The Sumner Elementary School is currently a National Historic Landmark listed with the United States Department of the Interior. It was constructed in 1936 as a part of the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, a New Deal program. The school was designed in the Art Deco style by Thomas W. Williamson, and has an unusual amount of stone detailing. Because of the quality of the original construction, it retains many of its original features, including light and bathroom fixtures, clocks, carved woodwork and a marble-rimmed fireplace in the kindergarten.Monroe Elementary School, the school that Linda Brown had been attending, closed in 1975 and was held privately for a number of years before being purchased in 1991 by The Trust for Public Land and added to Sumner's listing on the National Register. Because Sumner was still in use at the time for classes and Monroe was not, Monroe was selected on October 26, 1992 to house the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site, the official commemorative location operated for the public by the National Park Service.The school closed in 1996. It was one of eight schools closed as part of a local desegregation plan to satisfy the original Brown case which was re-opened in the 1980s and not closed until 1999. The building was initially purchased by the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, which used it as a storage facility. The City of Topeka purchased the building from the library in 2002, hoping to rehabilitate it, but city was unable to allocate the necessary funds. The city then tried to sell the property, but found no buyers; it even considered demolishing the building, which had fallen into serious neglect and had suffered vandalism. As a consequence, in May 2008, The National Trust for Historic Preservation listed the building on their list of America's Most Endangered Places.The city chose to auction the building to the public in January 2009. Hearing of the sale and recognizing the significance to the Civil Rights Movement, Bishop W. R. Portee, Pastor of Southside Christian Palace Church based in Los Angeles, purchased the building using the umbrella organization True Foundation World Outreach Ministries in April 2009 for $89,000. The organization plans to renovate the building and open it to the public as a community center and human rights memorial. The estimated renovation costs are $7 million.

The Kansas Senate is the upper house of the Kansas Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. State of Kansas. It is composed of 40 senators elected from single-member districts, each with a population of at least 60,000 inhabitants. Members of the Senate are elected to a four-year term. There is no limit to the number of terms that a senator may serve. The Kansas Senate meets at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka. Like other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the federal U.S. Senate, the Senate is reserved with special functions such as confirming or rejecting gubernatorial appointments to executive departments, the state cabinet, commissions and boards.

The Kansas House of Representatives is the lower house of the legislature of the U.S. state of Kansas. Composed of 125 state representatives from districts with roughly equal populations of at least 19,000, its members are responsible for crafting and voting on legislation, helping to create a state budget, and legislative oversight over state agencies. Representatives are elected to two-year terms. The Kansas House of Representatives does not have term limits. The legislative session convenes at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka annually.

The State Library of Kansas is a department within the state government of Kansas, with locations in Topeka and Emporia. Ray Walling was appointed acting State Librarian in June of 2022.

The Kansas State Capitol, known also as the Kansas Statehouse, is the building housing the executive and legislative branches of government for the U.S. state of Kansas. Located in the city of Topeka, which has served as the capital of Kansas since the territory became a state in 1861, the building is the second to serve as the Kansas Capitol. During the territorial period (1854–1861), an earlier capitol building was begun but not completed in Lecompton, Kansas, and smaller structures in Lecompton and Topeka were where the territorial legislatures met (see Capitols of Kansas). The dome, at 304 ft (93 m), is taller than the 288 ft (88 m) United States Capitol dome, although its diameter (50 ft (15 m)) is approximately half that of the national capitol (96 ft (29 m)). It is one of the few capitols in the United States that continues to offer tours that go to the top of the dome. Visitors enter the dome by climbing 296 steps leading from the fifth floor to the top.
