Worpswede

Zion's Church (German: Zionskirche, Low Saxon: Zionskark) is a Lutheran parish church in Worpswede, Lower Saxony, Germany. The church is used and owned by the Lutheran Congregation of Worpswede within the Evangelical Lutheran State Church of Hanover. It was completed in 1759 and forms a landmark located on top of the Weyerberg hill.

The Weyerberg is a sandy geest island, 54.4 metres (178 ft) high, in the Teufelsmoor ("Devil's Bog") in Northern Germany. It is located near its main settlement of Worpswede in the district of Osterholz in Lower Saxony. Its name means something like 'wooded hill'. It probably emerged at the end of the ice age, when meltwaters deposited sand around its clay core. Traces of the New Stone Age were found on and around the hill: stone tools and items of jewellery. Urn graves dating to 1100 BC were discovered on the southern slopes, the Hinterm Berg. In 500 BC, the hill was abandoned as a settlement again as the climate cooled down. In 1218 Worpswede was first mentioned in the records because the eight farms there were tithing to Osterholz Abbey. Several landmarks are located on the Weyerberg, such as the Cheese Dome House after designs by Bruno Taut, the Lower Saxony Stone by Bernhard Hoetger, and the Zion's Church. Painters of Worpswede's artists' colony often chose the Weyerberg as their scene or subject. In 1957 the Stiftung Worpswede was founded that sought through land purchase to prevent further sand quarrying on the Weyerberg.

The Breites Wasser is a lake in the borough of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the German state of Lower Saxony on the terrain of the Teufelsmoor. A nature reserve of the same name lies around the lake between Worpswede and the village of Teufelsmoor. The lake is situated at the confluence of the Beek and the Hamme about 2 km downstream of Beek. The many ox-bows of the streams and small irregular ponds with boggy shores, the so-called Blänken form a wetland triangle (feuchtes Dreieck), which constantly changes its appearance due to the variations in water levels. Many rare birds breed in the area and there are also colonies of gulls. In autumn and spring quite a few migratory birds rest here en route to their destinations. Several years ago a large number of paths were laid out for walkers.

Beek is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. It flows into the Hamme near Worpswede.

Grasberg is a municipality in the district of Osterholz, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 13 km southeast of Osterholz-Scharmbeck, and 20 km northeast of Bremen.

SM U-165 was one of the 329 submarines serving in the Imperial German Navy in World War I. U-165 would have been engaged in naval warfare and taken part in the First Battle of the Atlantic but didn't since Germany suspended submarine warfare on 20 October 1918. She sank on her way to surrender on 18 November 1918 at position 53°10′N 8°53′E.

Lilienthal is a municipality in the administrative district of Osterholz, Lower Saxony, Germany. It borders Bremen (Free Hanseatic City of Bremen).

Wörpe is a river in the northern part of the state of Lower Saxony in Germany, a tributary of the Wümme. The source of the Wörpe is near Steinfeld (a district of Bülstedt) about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Zeven. From there the Wörpe flows through Wilstedt and Grasberg before finally discharging into the Wümme near Lilienthal. The course of the Wörpe was artificially changed in the past. Originally it ran through the Truper Blänken and entered the Wümme near Hof Gehrden. It was first re-routed between 1826 and 1864 in order to improve the passage of peat barges.

Osterholz is a district (Landkreis) in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the districts of Wesermarsch, Cuxhaven, Rotenburg and Verden, and by the city of Bremen.

The Mediumwave Transmitter Bremen was the mediumwave broadcasting facility of Radio Bremen situated at Bremen-Oberneuland, Germany. It operated at 936 kHz, with a transmitter output power of 50 kW. The transmitter at Bremen-Oberneuland was built in 1999 as a replacement for the old transmission facility of Radio Bremen at Leher Feld, which was demolished to make room for an industrial area.

Scharmbecker Bach is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. It flows into the Hamme south of Osterholz-Scharmbeck.

Osterholz-Scharmbeck (; Northern Low Saxon: Oosterholt-Scharmbeek) is a town and the capital of the district of Osterholz, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Osterholz-Scharmbeck is situated in between the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven.
