The Washington Open (known as the Citi Open for sponsorship reasons) is an annual hardcourt tennis tournament played at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. The Washington Open is part of the ATP Tour 500, WTA 250, and the US Open Series, the latter of which is a schedule of North American hard court events leading into the US Open. After the 2014 edition, the Washington Open dropped out of the US Open Series, showing frustration over US Open Series broadcaster ESPN providing little coverage of the tournament on television. As of 2019, the Washington Open has rejoined the series, but still maintains the broadcast agreement it had reached with Tennis Channel.

The William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center is a tennis venue located in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. It is named after William H. G. FitzGerald, a Washington-based private investor who was active in philanthropies and served as United States Ambassador to Ireland. It houses 15 hard courts and 10 clay courts. There are also five indoors courts which are heated and available in winter. The main stadium seats 7,500 spectators, including 31 suites with air conditioning. The center is the home of the Citi Open, an annual ATP Tour and WTA Tour event.

The Capital Traction Company Car Barn, at 4615 14th St., NW. in Washington, D.C., was built in 1906. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. Also known as the Decatur Street Car Barn and the Northern Bus Garage, it was built to serve the Capital Traction Company.It is a two-story brick streetcar car barn designed by local architects Wood, Donn & Deming in Italian Renaissance style.It is located at the end of the Fourteenth Street streetcar line. It included two turntables. It was built by construction contractors Richardson and Burgess in 1906 and was then 537 by 208 feet (164 m × 63 m) in plan.It was converted to a bus garage in 1959; the Washington Rapid Transit had leased part of its space for use as a bus garage starting in 1926.

The Carter Barron Amphitheatre is a 4,200-seat outdoor performance venue in Washington, D.C., United States. Located in Rock Creek Park, the amphitheatre opened in 1950, in honor of the 150th anniversary of Washington, D.C. as the United States' capital. The National Park Service has operated Carter Barron, having offered a variety of quality performances, including reggae, Latin, classical, gospel, musicals, pop, R&B, jazz, new age, theater, and dance. Many of the performances have been provided free of charge. The adjacent William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center is part of the Carter Barron recreational facility. The Carter Barron Amphitheatre closed for repairs following a February 2017 inspection. The National Park Service (NPS) found that the stage's substructure was structurally unsound to handle the onstage weight of performers and equipment. If the NPS has the requisite funding, the construction phase of the process has been planned for 2021–2022.

The Jones-Haywood School of Ballet, now known as The Jones-Haywood Dance School, was founded in 1941 by Doris W. Jones and Claire Haywood in Washington D.C. to teach young dancers of color classical ballet.Its students have gone on to dance with Alvin Ailey , Philadanco, Dutch National Ballet, The Washington Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, on Broadway, and also become choreographers, actors and dance educators. Famous alumni include Chita Rivera, Hinton Battle, Sylvester Campbell, Louis Johnson and Sandra Fortune-Green.Jones and Haywood also founded the Capitol Ballet Company, a racially integrated professional ballet troupe that operated from 1961 to 1989. The school was also home to the Jones-Haywood Dancers.Haywood died in 1978 and Jones died in 2006. The school is now directed by Sandra Fortune-Green.
