South-east Tasmania Important Bird Area

Ralphs Bay is a body of water in south-east Tasmania, Australia. It is semi-enclosed by the Tranmere / Rokeby peninsula and the South Arm peninsula. Sea access to the bay is from the River Derwent. Ralphs Bay is a shallow, windy bay, situated on the south-east of the Derwent Estuary, about 12 kilometres from the south-east of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. The bay is sheltered by the low, grassy hills of Droughty Point to the north-west and the spit of South Arm and Opossum Bay to the south-west.

Historic St Barnabas Church and Cemetery is located in Tasmania, Australia. Built on a hill that sits above Half Moon Bay, it overlooks the shipping lines and sailing regattas on the Derwent River. St Barnabas is the parish church of the outer Hobart suburb of South Arm.

South Arm is a rural residential locality in the local government area of Clarence in the Hobart region of Tasmania. The locality is about 32 kilometres (20 mi) south-east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census has a population of 880 for the state suburb of South Arm.

South Arm Peninsula is a peninsula that lies on the east side of the mouth of the River Derwent south of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. The peninsula commences at Lauderdale and curves landward or inward on a narrow isthmus that has South Arm situated on the east side of the Derwent, across from Blackmans Bay on the west side. Opossum Bay is the northernmost populated place on the northward curve. Ralphs Bay lies in the area defined by the peninsula to the west, while Storm Bay lies to the south of the peninsula, Frederick Henry Bay to the east side that separates from the Tasman Peninsula. The peninsular is located in the City of Clarence. There are a number of organisations that use the name of the peninsula.

Iron Pot is a small flat sandstone island with an area of 1.27 ha in south-eastern Australia. It is part of the Betsey Island Group, lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania around the entrance to the River Derwent. It is the site of the Iron Pot Lighthouse, Tasmania's first lighthouse.

The Iron Pot Lighthouse (also known as the Derwent Lighthouse) is a lighthouse located on Iron Pot island in Storm Bay, at the mouth of the Derwent River in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Constructed in 1832 with convict labor, Iron Pot Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Tasmania and oldest original tower in Australia. It was the first lighthouse in Australia to utilise locally manufactured optics, and became the first Australian lighthouse to use solar power in 1977. The 11-metre (36 ft) tall tower has a range of 11 nautical miles (20 km; 13 mi).

Tranmere is a rural residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Clarence in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south-east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census recorded a population of 1701 for the state suburb of Tranmere. It is a suburb of greater Hobart. It is accessed from, and shares a border with Howrah, which lies to its north. Rokeby lies to its east. Tranmere is a riverside suburb, with views across the Derwent River to the Hobart city centre.

The River Derwent is a river located in Tasmania, Australia. It is also known by the palawa kani name timtumili minanya. The river rises in the state's Central Highlands at Lake St Clair, and descends more than 700 metres (2,300 ft) over a distance of more than 200 kilometres (120 mi), flowing through Hobart, the state's capital city, before emptying into Storm Bay and flowing into the Tasman Sea. The banks of the Derwent were once covered by forests and occupied by Aboriginal Tasmanians. European settlers farmed the area and during the 20th century many dams were built on its tributaries for the generation of hydro-electricity. Agriculture, forestry, hydropower generation and fish hatcheries dominate catchment land use. The Derwent is also an important source of water for irrigation and water supply. Most of Hobart's water supply is taken from the lower River Derwent. Nearly 40% of Tasmania's population lives around the estuary's margins and the Derwent is widely used for recreation, boating, recreational fishing, marine transportation and industry.

Sandford is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Clarence in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) south-east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census recorded a population of 1883 for the state suburb of Sandford. It is a town located on the South Arm Peninsula on the outskirts of Hobart. Sandford is also home to the Sandford Rifle Club which is located in Rifle Range Road. It is far enough from the Tasmanian capital of Hobart to consist largely of bushland, but near enough to be within commuting distance. Most of the inhabitants of Sandford live on a large acreage, either used for farming or recreational purposes.

Taroona Beach is a popular beach destination along the River Derwent in Taroona, Hobart, Tasmania. The south facing beach looks directly out to Storm Bay and the Tasman Sea, with views of the Derwent estuary, the City of Clarence on the eastern shore, Opossum Bay, South Arm, the Alum Cliffs and northern tip of Bruny Island. Taroona Beach is situated between Hinsby Beach and Crayfish Point, home of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Centre for the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies. Taroona Beach contains a boat ramp and is backed by Taroona Park which contains bathroom facilities, a skate park, scout hall, the Taroona Tennis Club, and the Taroona Bowls and Community Club.

Taroona High School is a government co-educational comprehensive junior secondary school located in Taroona, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1958, the school caters for approximately 1,100 students from Years 7 to 10. The school is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education. In 2019 student enrollments were 1,110. The acting school principal is Susan Flinn. The school is planning to expand into years 11 and 12 with limited courses starting in the 2022 school year at the University of Tasmania campus.The school's most notable former student is Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark.
