Tregonetha

St Wenn (Cornish: Sen Gwenna) is a civil parish and village in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is situated six miles (10 km) west of Bodmin and nine miles (14.5 km) east of Newquay. The parish population at the 2011 census was 369.Other settlements in the parish include Rosenannon, Demelza, Tregonetha (Cornish: Tregenhetho), and Tregurtha Barton, once the home of Michael Tregury, Archbishop of Dublin who died in 1471. The last heir-male of the elder branch of this family died in the reign of Henry V. The Borlase family, ancestors of William Borlase, were residents of three farms in this parish. Later William Hals, who wrote the Parochial History of Cornwall, lived here in the latter part of his life: Hals, who owned the rectorial tithes of St Wenn, died here. There is a Cornish cross at Cross and Hand, a place in the valley next to Castle-an-Dinas and in the extreme south of the parish. This cross (locally known as Crossy Ann) marks the boundary of the parishes of St Wenn, St Columb Major and Roche.

Castle Downs is a dome-shaped hill, 216 metres (709 ft) high, located in mid Cornwall, UK. There is a major hillfort, Castle an Dinas, on the summit and extensive and panoramic views across the county to both north and south coasts.The open summit of Castle Downs is located just north of the A30 road in mid Cornwall, about 2 miles east-southeast of St Columb Major, 2 miles northeast of Indian Queens and about 7 miles west-southwest of Bodmin. About 1½ miles to the east is the sister hill of Belowda Beacon (227 m).The major summit feature of Castle an Dinas is a massive Iron Age hill fort comprising 3 concentric ramparts and ditches that were probably originally surmounted by wooden palisades. The main entrance is to the southwest. Within the castle are 2 Bronze Age barrows. The hillfort has been partially damaged by a, now closed, 20th century wolfram mine.Legend has it that the site was one of the seats of the Duke of Cornwall and, according to folklore, it is also where Cador, Duke of Cornwall and Ygraine, King Arthur's mother, were killed.

Castle an Dinas is an Iron Age hillfort at the summit of Castle Downs near St Columb Major in Cornwall, UK (grid reference SW945624) and is considered one of the most important hillforts in the southwest of Britain. It dates from around the 3rd to 2nd century BCE and consists of three ditch and rampart concentric rings, 850 feet (260 m) above sea level. During the early 1960s it was excavated by a team led by Dr Bernard Wailes of the University of Pennsylvania during two seasons of excavation.

Retallack village is near St Columb Major, in Cornwall, England, UK, and in the civil parish of St Wenn. Most of the village was turned into a 100 acre commercial theme park called "Spirit of the West". The theme park was closed in 2009 and redeveloped into holiday lodges which use the name Retallack Resort & Spa. Outer Retallick (sic) is another village 1 km to the northwest of the village of Winnards Perch, which was destroyed to make way for a nearby highway roundabout. Retallack is also a Cornish surname. The name can be traced back to the location near St Columb. John Retallack, listed as a local farmer living at Retallack in 1602. Other Cornish localities named for this family include Retillick Farm (sic) near Roche (SW 974593), Retallack Farm near Constantine (SW 733304), and Retallack Mine near Millpool (SW 573314) Other Cornish places called Retallack also exist: these are in St Hilary and Constantine. while Retallick is in Roche. Though the modern forms are the same the earlier forms show that the original meanings are different. This Retallack and the nearby Retallick have the meaning "ford by willow trees".
