Wilton, New Hampshire

Wilton is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Wilton, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The CDP extends east into the town of Milford as well. The population of the CDP was 1,324 at the 2020 census, up from 1,163 at the 2010 census.

Wilton Town Hall is located at 42 Main Street in downtown Wilton, New Hampshire. Built in 1886, the red brick building is a prominent local example of civic Queen Anne style architecture. In a common style of the day, it includes a theater space which was used for dramatic presentations, silent films, and vaudeville productions, before being converted to its present use as a movie theater. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Stony Brook is a 10.6-mile-long (17.1 km) river located in southern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Souhegan River, which flows to the Merrimack River and ultimately to the Gulf of Maine. Stony Brook rises in the town of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire, in a valley between Lyndeborough Mountain to the north and Winn Mountain to the south. It flows west into the town of Greenfield, then turns southeast and reenters Lyndeborough, continuing to the Souhegan in the mill town of Wilton. It is paralleled from Greenfield to Wilton by New Hampshire Route 31 and by the former Hillsboro Branch of the Boston and Maine Railroad.

The Wilton Public and Gregg Free Library is the public library of Wilton, New Hampshire. It is located in a Classical Revival brick building on Forest Street, near the north end of Wilton's downtown area. The building was designed by the Boston, Massachusetts, firm of McLean & Wright, and built 1905-07. It was a gift of David Almus Gregg, a local manufacturer of building parts; Gregg further gave the library an endowment in 1912. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Hillsborough Mills are a historic textile manufacturing complex at 37 Wilton Road in western Milford, New Hampshire, near its town line with Wilton. The oldest buildings of the brick mill complex were built in 1866 as a carpet-making operation. This business failed in 1874, but the complex was acquired by other textile interests, and eventual saw success producing carpet yarns, and blankets for horses and bedding. The mills were closed in 1970, and have since been adapted for other uses. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Founded in 1942, High Mowing School is an independent private, co-educational, day and boarding school, located in Wilton, New Hampshire, in the United States. High Mowing serves students in early childhood through grade 12. It is the oldest Waldorf high school in Canada or the United States and the only Waldorf boarding school in the United States.

Andy's Summer Playhouse is a youth theater located in Wilton, New Hampshire.Andy's Summer Playhouse programs foster creative collaborations between children and professional artists who work in a variety of media: performance art, theater, dance, music, puppetry, video, set and lighting design and playwriting. In addition to its unique mission to produce original and adapted plays for children, the theater boasts a number of well-known alumni and teaching artists, including Tony Award winning artists Stephen Karam and Lisa Kron, Emmy Award winning artists Paul Jacobs and Sarah Durkee, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, Caldecott Medal winning authors Brian Selznick and Elizabeth Orton Jones, as well as several Alpert, Bessie, Obie, and Drama Desk Award winning artists.

Purgatory Brook is a 5.8-mile-long (9.3 km) tributary of the Souhegan River in southern New Hampshire. It rises in a marshy area on the border of Lyndeborough and Mont Vernon, and flows south over three small waterfalls, intersecting the Souhegan in Milford. For much of its length, it constitutes the border between Lyndeborough and Mont Vernon. Mont Vernon town histories say it is unclear where the name "Purgatory" came from. At least one other brook with the same name exists in nearby Massachusetts. The northernmost cascade, Upper Purgatory Falls, drew many visitors in the late 19th and early 20th century when Mont Vernon was home to a number of hotels that drew summer visitors from the heat of Boston. At one time the area had a dance hall and a bowling alley, as well as camping sites - none of which exist today. Evidence of railings around the upper falls are still visible. Town-wide celebrations drew hundreds of people up through the Great Depression, according to Mont Vernon town histories.Today the upper falls can be reached on the Mont Vernon side by four-wheel drive vehicles, and on the Lyndeborough side by a short walk from a town-maintained road. The lowest waterfall can only be reached by a short hiking trail from a parking lot, which has been closed due to overcrowding spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. The middle waterfall can be reached by a hiking public trail that runs the length of the brook.

The Daniel Cragin Mill, known in the twenty-first century as the Frye's Measure Mill, is a historic watermill established in 1858. The mill was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The listing included five contributing buildings on 4 acres (1.6 ha).

The Hamblet-Putnam-Frye House is a historic house at 293 Burton Highway in Wilton, New Hampshire. This two story wood-frame house was probably built in the 1760s, and significantly altered in the late 19th century. The property includes a c. 1840 barn, a c. 1900 carriage house that has been converted into a garage, and a small c. 1900 ice house. There are also remnants of an early 19th-century mill works, including a stone foundation, canal and sluice gate. The canal and sluice gate were altered in the early 20th century to permit the canal section to be filled for swimming. The northern boundary of the 6.8-acre (2.8 ha) property is defined by a surviving section of a road that was laid out c. 1760 which was taken out of public use before the end of the 18th century.The property captures the adaptive alteration of early farmsteads and industrial properties to more recreational purpose. The house was built by Hezekiah Hamblet, and acquired in 1808 by Eliphalet Putnam, who operated what is now called Frye's Measure Mill, located just east of this property, as well as the millworks on this land. Although the ownership of the two parcels diverged in the 19th century, they were reunited by purchases made by Alice and Edmund Frye, who used the house as a summer residence, and continued to operate the Frye's Measure Mill, while that on this property was demolished.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Hartshorn Memorial Cannon is a decommissioned American Civil War naval cannon that forms the centerpiece of the South Lyndeborough Village Common in Lyndeborough, New Hampshire. The cannon is named for John Alonzo Hartshorn, the town's second Civil War casualty and a former member of the town's Lafayette Artillery Company.

Citizens' Hall is the government office building and a community meeting place for the town of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire. Built in 1889 in the Stick–Eastlake Style, but one that is also heavily influenced by the Greek Revival, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its importance as a community/social center for the town. It is located on Citizens' Hall Road in the village of South Lyndeborough.
