On October 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man from Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. From his 32nd-floor suites in the Mandalay Bay hotel, he fired more than 1,000 bullets, killing 60 people and wounding 411 with the ensuing panic bringing the number of injured to 867. About an hour later, Paddock was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His motive is officially undetermined. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in United States history. It focused attention on firearms laws in the U.S., particularly with regard to bump stocks, which Paddock used to fire shots in rapid succession, at a rate similar to that of automatic firearms. Bump stocks were banned by the U.S. Justice Department in December 2018.

Mandalay Bay is a 43-story luxury resort and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned by MGM Growth Properties and The Blackstone Group and operated by MGM Resorts International. One of the property's towers operates as the Delano; the Four Seasons Hotel is independently operated within the Mandalay Bay tower, occupying five floors (35–39). Mandalay Bay has 3,209 hotel rooms, 24 elevators and a casino of 135,000 square feet (12,500 m2). Adjacent to the hotel is the 2-million-square-foot (190,000 m2) Mandalay Bay Convention Center and the 12,000-seat Michelob Ultra Arena. The Mandalay Bay Tram connects the resort to its sister properties, Excalibur and Luxor, all three of which were constructed by Circus Circus Enterprises before its sale to MGM.

The Mandalay Bay Tram is a 2,749-foot-long (838 m) people mover that opened on April 9, 1999 on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It was constructed to connect three gaming hotels belonging to the MGM Mirage Group. The line carries passengers from the major Tropicana – Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, via the Excalibur Hotel and Casino and Luxor Hotel to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino at the southern end. The dual-track system is cable driven and free for the public to use. The eastern track has intermediate station stops. The western track only has stops at either end of the line – Mandalay Bay and Excalibur. If only one train is running, it is the eastern track and it runs express to Mandalay Bay going south, but makes all stops returning north. During peak periods when both trains are running, they will both stop at all stations along its track.

Rumjungle was a popular Las Vegas restaurant and nightclub built as a part of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino original construction. It consistently made the Nightclub & Bar Magazine list of the Top 100 nightclubs in the United States, and was in the Top 20 of Restaurant & Institutions Top 100 Grossing Restaurants in the United States.It was the largest Brazilian (Churrascaria style) restaurant in the world, and had the largest rum list in the world; its rum bar was 144 feet long and 19 feet high.Rumjungle filed for bankruptcy in March 2010 and has since closed.

Criss Angel Believe was the sixth Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas, which premiered at the 1,600-capacity Believe Theatre inside the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas in 2008. It is a theatrical production created in partnership of Cirque du Soleil and magician Criss Angel, who was billed as the "co-writer, illusions creator and designer, original concept creator and star" of the show. The show had its final performance on April 17, 2016, being replaced by Criss Angel Mindfreak Live on May 11 of the same year.

Luxor Las Vegas is a 30-story hotel and casino situated on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The hotel is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International and has a 120,000-square-foot (11,000 m2) casino with over 2,000 slot machines and 87 table games.The casino opened in 1993 and was renovated and expanded several times. Later renovation work modernized the design of the property and raised the hotel's capacity to 4,407 rooms, including 442 suites. The hotel's rooms line the interior walls of the main tower, which has a pyramid shape, and the 22-story twin ziggurat towers.The hotel is named for the city of Luxor (ancient Thebes) in Egypt.

Red Square was a Russian-themed restaurant and bar located in the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada and at the Tropicana Atlantic City in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Atlantic City location closed in 2012, followed by the Las Vegas restaurant closing in November 2019, after twenty years of service.

The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is a public aquarium located at and owned by the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Its main tank is 1,300,000 US gallons (4,900,000 l), one of the largest in North America. The facility is 95,000 sq ft (8,800 m2), and displays numerous species of sharks, rays, fish, reptiles, and marine invertebrates. It also features a shark tunnel. The reef was developed in consultation with the Vancouver Aquarium.

Delano Las Vegas (formerly known as THEhotel) is a 43-story 1,117-room luxury suite hotel. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. It is located within the Mandalay Bay complex on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It opened on December 17, 2003, as "THEhotel at Mandalay Bay." In 2012, owner MGM Resorts International announced a partnership with Morgans Hotel Group to rebrand the hotel as Delano Las Vegas. Construction to rebrand the hotel began in April 2014. Several floors were worked on at a time, allowing much of the hotel to remain open during renovations. The Delano held its grand opening ceremonies in September 2014. The hotel includes an Alain Ducasse restaurant called "Rivea" and a lounge called "Skyfall", both located at the top of the hotel.

Glass Pool Inn was a motel located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It initially opened as the Mirage Motel in 1952. An above-ground swimming pool was added in 1955, and included large porthole windows that allowed outsiders to peer inside. The motel became well known for its pool, which was used in numerous films and television shows, as well as music videos and photo shoots. In 1988, the Mirage Motel was renamed as the Glass Pool Inn to avoid confusion with Steve Wynn's new Mirage resort, also located on the Las Vegas Strip. The Glass Pool Inn was closed in September 2003, and demolished a year later for a project that ultimately did not materialize.

The Tropicana Las Vegas is a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn National Gaming. It offers 1,467 rooms, a 50,000-square-foot (4,600 m2) gaming floor, and 72,000 sq ft (6,700 m2) of convention and exhibit space.This location, the Tropicana – Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, has the most hotel rooms of any intersection in the world. Pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. Instead, the Tropicana is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos: to the north across Tropicana Avenue, the MGM Grand, and to the west across the Strip, the Excalibur. On April 13, 2021, Bally's Corporation announced it entered a deal to acquire the Tropicana from Gaming and Leisure Properties in a deal valued at $308 million. Bally's Corporation's acquisition of Tropicana is expected to close in early 2022. Gaming and leisure properties will retain ownership of the land underneath the property and has agreed to initial 50-year lease.

Little Church of the West is a wedding chapel on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, that is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places. Built of redwood, it was intended to be a replica of a typical pioneer town church. It is the oldest building on the Las Vegas Strip.
