Schlierach

Weyarn is a municipality in the district of Miesbach in Bavaria in Germany. It dates back to a monastery that was founded by Siboto II, count of Falkenstein in 1133. It is located 38 km southeast of Munich and can be easily reached on highway A8 running from Munich to Salzburg.They have worked towards retaining their original identity through a project of Village Renewal since the 1990s. Currently, they have been adjudged to be very successful in this regard, and are now known for their established approach to rural development which has become an example in rural development studies in Germany and Europe. Their approach to rural development has become a subject of analyses in an academic research Journal publications, in and outside Germany. Many farming villages in the surrounding area are part of the municipality.

Miesbach (German: [ˈmiːsˌbax] ) is a town in Bavaria, Germany, and is the capital of the Miesbach district. The district is at an altitude of 697 metres above sea level. It covers an area of approximately 863.50 km² of alpine headlands and in 2017 had a population of 11,477. The town is located 48 km southeast of Munich. Lake Schliersee and Lake Tegernsee, around which are the internationally renowned spas, Bad Wiessee, Rottach-Egern and Tegernsee, are nearby. Miesbach was founded around the year 1000 and was for hundreds of years the seat of the County of Hohenwaldeck. In the 19th century, it became the centre of the conservation movement for the traditional costumes, the Tracht. Miesbach also has a rich history as a pilgrimage and a mining village, which can still be seen in the city landscape. On September 16, 1882, Miesbach became the starting point for the first long-distance transmission of electric power in the world. A 1,343 voltage power transmission line transferred electricity from Miesbach over a distance of 35 miles (57 km) to Munich. The starting point was the technologically advanced Miesbach mine, where electricity was generated using a steam engine. On the receiving end in the Munich Glass Palace, an electric pump powered an artificial waterfall. With this, Oskar von Miller and Marcel Deprez were able to show that electric power could indeed be transferred over long distances. Miesbach is the birthplace of Verismo painter Christian Schad.

Taubenberg is a mountain with a height of 896 m amsl and area of 1847 ha in the Warngau municipality in the district of Miesbach in Bavaria, Germany. It is set apart from the Tegernsee mountains of the Bavarian Prealps. It is a popular hiking destination and the most important water supply area of the Bavarian capital Munich. About two-thirds of the mountain is owned by the city of Munich, the rest is freehold of local farmers and foresters.

The Mangfall Bridge is a motorway bridge across the valley of the Mangfall north of Weyarn in Upper Bavaria, Germany, which carries Bundesautobahn 8 between Munich and Rosenheim. The original bridge, designed by German Bestelmeyer, opened in January 1936 as one of the first large bridges in the Reichsautobahn system and was influential in its design. Destroyed at the end of World War II, this bridge was replaced with a temporary structure in 1948; the current bridge consists of a replacement built in 1958–60 to a design by Gerd Lohmer and Ulrich Finsterwalder and a second span for traffic in one direction which was added in the late 1970s when the autobahn was widened to six lanes.

Warngau is a municipality in the Miesbach District of Bavaria, Germany. It is located at 47°50′N 11°44′E and has a population of 3,489. Warngau has a railway station on the line from Munich to Lenggries with services operated by Bayerische Oberlandbahn (BOB). The railway near Warngau was the scene of a serious accident in 1975.

Valley (German pronunciation: [faˈlaɪ̯]) is a municipality in the district of Miesbach in Bavaria in Germany. The municipality of Valley holds, as of 2006, 2949 inhabitants. Valley is also the name of a village of this municipality. In the village of Valley is located the castle Schloss Valley, property of the Counts of Arco, which holds a Museum of Culture and Organs. Valley is also locally renowned for the brewery Gräfliche Brauerei Arco-Valley, which brews the Graf Arco beer. In 2002, the village played host to the 1st Extreme Ironing World Championships. Valley is located on the river Mangfall. Traces can be found that track the history of the village back as far as to the Celts.
