Vaalbeek is part of Oud-Heverlee in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. The municipality further comprises the villages of Blanden, Haasrode, Oud-Heverlee proper and Sint-Joris-Weert. On 1 January 2006, Vaalbeek had a total population of 363.

Heverlee War Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) burial ground for the dead of the Second World War located in Heverlee, Belgium. The Heverlee War Cemetery was established in 1946 and contains 977 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, twenty-nine First World War burials relocated to the cemetery, and twelve non-Commonwealth graves (including 11 Polish and 1 American airmen). The cemetery is one of those designed by Commission architect Philip Hepworth.

The Haasrode Research-Park business and research park in Heverlee (Leuven, Belgium) with a total area of 136 hectares (336 acres), accommodates dozens of high-technology businesses, employing well over 5,000 people in total. The Pécrot rail crash was a rail accident in the village of Pécrot (part of the municipality of Grez-Doiceau), Belgium, that occurred on 27 March 2001 when two passenger trains collided head-on. The crash left 8 dead and 12 injured and was Belgium's worst rail disaster in a quarter of a century.

St John Berchmans University College, locally known as Jezuietenhuis or Lerkeveld, is an educational institution run by the European Low Countries Province of the Society of Jesus in Heverlee, outside Leuven. It was built in 1958 by Jos Ritzen, who worked with Alphons Boosten. It began as a philosophy and theology college for the Jesuits and housed their archives.

According to the official website of Leuven, Haasrode is a part of the sub-municipality of Heverlee.In 1977, Haasrode was merged with Oud-Heverlee, Blanden, Vaalbeek and Sint-Joris-Weert to form the municipality of Oud-Heverlee. The northern part of the former municipality of Haasrode was administratively annexed to Leuven. Haasrode Research-Park is located in Leuven's Haasrode.
