St Mary's Church, Penwortham

Penwortham Castle was built on the south bank of the River Ribble, at Penwortham to the west of Preston, Lancashire, England, at grid reference SD524291. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, although only the mound remains. It was built shortly after the Norman conquest as a motte castle by Roger of Poitou. It served to guard the estuary of the river and a ford crossing it. It was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 as having attached to it: six burgesses, three 'radmen' (riding men), eight villeins and four neatherds (cattle keepers). When Roger built Lancaster Castle, Penwortham declined in importance. In the early 13th century Randolph de Blundeville, Earl of Chester and baron of Lancaster, held his courts in the castle, but soon after the castle fell into disrepair.

Ribble Power Station was a coal-fired electricity generating station on the River Ribble in Penwortham near Preston, Lancashire, England. The station was built by the Corporation of Preston to replace a small privately-run generating station in the town. It supplied electricity to Preston and the surrounding area from 1923 until 1976. The station was expanded with new equipment in 1943–47 (known as the No.2 or 'B' station) which remained in operation until the power station was closed in 1976 and was subsequently demolished.

Penwortham Girls' High School is a secondary school located in Penwortham in the English county of Lancashire.Established in 1954 as Penwortham Girls' Grammar School, today it is a community school administered by Lancashire County Council, and is one of two non-selective, non-fee paying girls’ school in Lancashire. Penwortham Girls' High School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. The school also offers The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme as an extra-curricular activity.

Preston Fishergate Hill was a railway station at the bottom of Fishergate Hill in Preston. It formed the northeastern terminus of the West Lancashire Railway which built a direct railway link between Southport and Preston. The station was also known as Preston West Lancashire Station (OS 1:2500 1st Ed map).

Penwortham Priory was first a Benedictine priory and, after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, a country house in the village of Penwortham, near Preston, Lancashire. The house was demolished as the village expanded into a town and a housing estate has replaced the mansion house and its grounds of which no trace remain.

Ashton-on-Ribble was recorded in the Domesday Book.Ashton-on-Ribble contains the historic Preston Docks, once the largest inland dock in Europe, the site is now largely residential living accommodation and leisure facilities. Ashton Park is within Ashton-on-Ribble, containing Ashton House, built in 1810 by Thomas Starkie Shuttleworth and later the home of Preston banker James Pedder.

Preston Castle, or Tulketh Castle, was a motte and bailey castle in the Ashton-on-Ribble district of Preston, Lancashire, England. The site became disused at an early stage but the mound was not leveled until 1855.

St Walburge's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Preston, Lancashire, England, northwest of the city centre on Weston Street. The church was built in the mid-19th century to a design by the Gothic Revival architect Joseph Hansom, the designer of the hansom cab, and is famous as having the tallest spire of any parish church in England. St Walburge's is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade I listed building.In 2014 Michael Campbell, Roman Catholic Bishop of Lancaster, entrusted the church to the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest as a shrine for Eucharistic Devotion.

Penwortham Old Bridge is a toll-free, five-span bridge over the River Ribble at Preston, Lancashire, England. A Grade II listed structure and a scheduled monument, located about a mile southwest of the centre of the city, it crosses the river to Penwortham. Today the bridge no longer carries motorised traffic.The original attempt to build a bridge here was completed in 1755, but collapsed the following year.The bridge is built in stone and consists of five unequal segmental arches, rising toward the centre. The cutwaters rise to form refuges at the sides of the carriageway. The spandrels are of red sandstone. The parapets curve to form walls on the south side, extending approximately 40 metres (130 ft) eastwards and 130 metres (430 ft) westwards.The largest arch is the central one at 18.19 metres (59.7 ft) across and the cobbled carriageway is 5.49 metres (18.0 ft) wide. On the northern side a sixth arch, aligned almost at a right angle to the main part of the bridge, carries the approach road from the west. Opening in 1759, until the early 20th century this was lowest bridged crossing over the Ribble. Its costs have at times been funded by a toll.The bridge was Grade II listed in two stages, the part at the southern end (then within the Preston Rural District) on 1 October 1962, and remaining part (in Preston) on 27 September 1979. It has also been listed as a scheduled monument.

It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Preston, the archdeaconry of Lancaster, and the diocese of Blackburn. Its benefice is united with those of St Mark, Preston, and St Andrew, Ashton-on-Ribble, to form the benefice of the West Preston Team. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.
