Ermou Street (Athens)

The Church of the Pantanassa (Greek: Εκκλησία της Παντανάσσης) or of the Dormition of the Theotokos (Ιερός Ναός Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου) is the 10th-century katholikon of a now-vanished monastery in Monastiraki Square, between Athinas and Mitropoleos streets, facing the Monastiraki station, in central Athens, Greece. The church was known as the Great Monastery, and then later as monastiraki ("little monastery"), which eventually became the name of the whole area.

Monastiraki (English: Little Monastery) station is an interchange station on the Athens Metro, between Lines 1 and 3. The original "Monastirion" surface station on Line 1 opened on 17 May 1895. It became an interchange point of the network when the underground station of Line 3 opened on 22 April 2003. It is located in the historic center of Athens, near the neighborhood of Plaka. The station is right beneath the Acropolis and next to the site of the Ancient Agora of Athens.

Hadrian's Library was created by Roman Emperor Hadrian in AD 132 on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens.The building followed a typical Roman forum architectural style, having only one entrance with a propylon of Corinthian order, a high surrounding wall with protruding niches (oikoi, exedrae) at its long sides, an inner courtyard surrounded by columns and a decorative oblong pool in the middle. The library was on the eastern side where rolls of papyrus "books" were kept. Adjoining halls were used as reading rooms, and the corners served as lecture halls. The library was seriously damaged by the Herulian invasion of 267 and repaired by the prefect Herculius in AD 407–412. During Byzantine times, three churches were built at the site, the remains of which are preserved: a tetraconch (5th century AD) a three-aisled basilica (7th century), and a simple cathedral (12th century), which was the first cathedral of the city, known as Megali Panagia.Around the same period as the cathedral another church, Agios Asomatos sta Skalia, was built against the north facade, but it is not preserved.

The Library of Pantainos was a building in ancient Athens. It was located at the southeast end of the Agora of Athens, south of the Stoa of Attalus, on the left side of Panathenaion Street. It was built by the Athenian philosopher Titus Flavius Pantainos between 98 and 102 AD, during the reign of the Roman emperor Trajan. The library building was dedicated to Athena Archegetis, with Trajan himself and the people of Athens, according to an inscription on the lintel of the main entrance, which is preserved embedded in the late Roman wall,.The monument still survives today but is in a fragmentary state. It is partially covered by the late Roman wall of the Agora and mainly by a large tower. It is one of the buildings where the study of philosophy and the cult of the Muses flourished. Destroyed in 267 A.D. during the Herulian incursion, it was incorporated in the 5th century into the great peristyle.

Tzistarakis Mosque (Greek: Τζαμί Τζισταράκη, Turkish: Cizderiye Camii) is an Ottoman mosque, built in 1759, in Monastiraki Square, central Athens, Greece. It is now functioning as an annex of the Museum of Greek Folk Art.

The Gate of Athena Archegetis is situated west side of the Roman Agora, in Athens and considered to be the second most prominent remain in the site after the Tower of the Winds. Constructed in 11 BCE by donations from Julius Caesar and Augustus, the gate was made of an architrave standing on four Doric columns and a base, all of Pentelic marble. Monastiraki (Greek: Μοναστηράκι, Monastiráki, pronounced [monastiˈraci], literally little monastery) is a flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens, Greece, and is one of the principal shopping districts in Athens. The area is home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, and specialty stores, and is a major tourist attraction in Athens and Attica for bargain shopping. The area is named after Monastiraki Square, which in turn is named for the Church of the Pantanassa that is located within the square. The main streets of this area are Pandrossou Street and Adrianou Street. The Monastiraki Metro Station, located on the square, serves both Line 1 and Line 3 of the Athens Metro.

The Stoa of Attalos (also spelled Attalus) was a stoa (covered walkway or portico) in the Agora of Athens, Greece. It was built by and named after King Attalos II of Pergamon, who ruled between 159 BC and 138 BC. The current building was reconstructed from 1952 to 1956 by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens and currently houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora.

The Church of Saint Irene (Greek: Ιερός Ναός Αγίας Ειρήνης, romanized: Ierós Naós Agías Irínis, lit. 'Sacred Temple of Saint Irene' Greek pronunciation: [aˈʝia iˈrini]), also known as Hagia Irene or Hagia Eirene, is an Eastern Orthodox church in the city of Athens, Greece, built on the site of an older medieval church, located on Aiolou Street. It is dedicated to Saint Irene, and served as the metropolis of the new Greek state during the early years of independence in the 19th century. Saint Irene is venerated on May 5.

Aerides (Greek: Αέρηδες pronounced [aˈe.ɾi.ðes]) is a small neighborhood of Athens, Greece surrounding the Tower of the Winds, from where it takes its name. It is a subdivision of Plaka.
