The Levey Day School is a Jewish day school in Portland, Maine, United States. It is the only Jewish school in northern New England. It was founded as the Portland Hebrew Day School in 1952 and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2022. In May 2022, the school celebrated its 70th anniversary.

The Deering Estate Barn was an architecturally significant building on the campus of the University of Maine at Portland, now the University of Southern Maine (USM), in Portland, Maine. Built about 1805 (along with a mansion) to a design by Alexander Parris, it was remodeled to plans by John Calvin Stevens II when the estate was taken over by Portland Junior College in 1947. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in August 1969, and demolished that same month over the protests of the university community.

The Sparrow House is an historic house at 35 Arlington Street in the Woodford's Corner and Back Cove neighborhood of Portland, Maine. Built in 1852, it is a well-preserved example of Gothic Revival architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The University of Maine School of Law Building is a former academic building in Portland, Maine. Adjacent to the University of Southern Maine's Portland campus, the 8 story building was designed by the local architectural firm of Wadsworth, Boston, Dimick, Mercer and Weatherill and completed in 1972 at a cost of $2.7 million. It expanded in 1993 to include more space on the first floor to accommodate the law library. It is a rare example of Brutalist architecture in Maine. It was built to house the University of Maine School of Law, which had previously been located downtown at 68 High Street.In 2017, Architectural Digest named the building one of the 8 ugliest in the United States and called it "a futuristic version of the Roman Colosseum." University employees described the building's architecture and design as "a joke but also a badge" and "rather unfortunate."In 2023, the Maine School of Law was relocated downtown to a former office building at 300 Fore Street. After 50 years, building no longer houses a law school. The University of Maine anticipates that the vacant law school will eventually be demolished, but there are no final plans to take the building down yet.

It is also part of the University of Maine System. The school's current dean is Leigh Saufley, who assumed the post in 2020. Until 1972 the School of Law was located at 68 High Street, Portland. In 1972, the School of Law moved to the University of Maine School of Law Building, which is adjacent to the University of Southern Maine's Portland campus. In 2023, the Law School moved to 300 Fore Street, on the waterfront of downtown Portland. Many of Maine's judges, legal scholars, politicians, and community leaders are graduates of the law school. Notable alumni include Chief Justices of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, Valerie Stanfill, Leigh Saufley, Daniel Wathen, current governor Janet Mills, several former governors, former Maine Senate President Libby Mitchell, and U.S. District Court Judges John A. Woodcock and Lance E. Walker, to name just a few. According to Maine's official 2017 ABA-required disclosures, 62.7% of the Class of 2017 obtained full-time, long-term, Bar Passage Required/JD Advantage employment ten months after graduation.

The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university with campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston in the U.S. state of Maine. It is the southernmost of the University of Maine System. It was founded as two separate state universities, Gorham Normal School and Portland University. The two universities, later known as Gorham State College and the University of Maine at Portland, were combined in 1970 to help streamline the public university system in Maine and eventually expanded by adding the Lewiston campus in 1988. The Portland Campus is home to the Edmund Muskie School of Public Service, the Bio Sciences Research Institute, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Osher Map Library, and the USM School of Business. The Gorham campus, much more residential, is home to the School of Education and Human Development and the School of Music. As of 2021, USM had 5,950 undergraduate students and 1,750 graduate students, with a student-faculty ratio of 13:3.

Five Points is a neighborhood in Asheville, North Carolina, United States. A northern suburb of Asheville, it is named for the five corners formed by the convergence of Broadway Street, Chestnut Street and Mount Clare Avenue. Many of the homes in Five Points were built in the 1920s and 1930s. Asheville businessman and benefactor George W. Pack built his "Many Oaks" estate where the Harris Teeter grocery store stands today at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Merrimon Avenue (U.S. Route 25). A streetcar used to run along Broadway Street to Mount Clare Avenue, before terminating at Hillside Street. Five Points Restaurant, at 258 Broadway Street, has been in business since 1972.

Woodfords Corner is a neighborhood and major intersection in Portland, Maine, United States. Centered around the intersections of Forest Avenue (part of U.S. Route 302) and Woodford Street, it is named for brothers Chauncey, Ebenezer and Isaiah Woodford, merchants from Connecticut who settled in the area.The corner developed in the 18th century as part of a major route from the Portland peninsula inland to the northwest. It is at the convergence of four neighborhoods: Back Cove, Oakdale, Deering Center and Rosemont.The Kennebec and Portland Railroad was laid through the neighborhood in 1847. It was abandoned in 1911.One of the most prominent buildings in Woodfords Corner is the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Block (IOOF). Located on the eastern side of the intersection, the building's clock tower was restored in 2017 at a cost of $60,000.The nearby Woodfords Congregational Church was dedicated in 1872. The original church buildings were designed by architects Francis H. Fassett and E.F. Fassett. They were demolished in 1956 and new ones were built that year.The Woodfords Club is a social club and event space for area elites founded in 1913.

Woodfords Club is a social club and event space in Portland, Maine. Organized on September 19, 1913, the clubhouse building was designed by architect John Calvin Stevens. The building officially opened in January 1914 amidst a housing boom in the area. Located in the suburban Woodfords Corner neighborhood, the club was organized as an elite male-only clubhouse similar to the more urban Portland Club and Cumberland Club. Members were wealthy, conservative businessmen and public officials seeking space apart from their families. Activities in the building include billiards and a candlepin bowling alley in the basement. Among its earliest members were lawyers like Harry L. Cram, businessman and future City Council chairman Neal W. Allen, Congressman Asher Hinds, and School Superintendent and future Ku Klux Klan leader DeForest H. Perkins. The records of the woman's section of the Woodfords Club are held at the University of New England.

Oakhurst Dairy is a dairy company headquartered in Portland, Maine, United States. It produces primarily dairy products as well as juices. Founded in 1918, it made headlines in 2003 when it was sued by agribusiness giant Monsanto over Oakhurst's label on its milk cartons that said "Our farmer's pledge: no artificial hormones," referring to the use of bovine somatotropin (rBST), a drug that increases milk production and that Monsanto sells. Monsanto argued that the label implied that Oakhurst milk was superior to milk from cows treated with rBST, which harmed Monsanto's business. Oakhurst was sold to Dairy Farmers of America, a national milk marketing cooperative based in Kansas City, Missouri in January 2014.

Woodfords Congregational Church is a church on Woodford Street in Portland, Maine, United States. Located a few yards west of Woodfords Corner, the church was built in 1959, replacing one which was designed by architects Francis H. Fassett and E. F. Fassett and which stood, on the opposite side of what was then called Spring Street, between 1872 and 1956. The original church bell was moved to the new construction. The Parish House was built in 1926. In 2021, discussions began regarding the sale of one of the church buildings to Community Housing of Maine, to be used for senior housing.
