West Ravendale

West Ravendale Priory was a Premonstratensian priory in North East Lincolnshire, England and one of nine within the historical county. The site of the priory lies 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Grimsby, and 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the A18. Its previous position is defined by earthworks and rubble. The ruins are Grade II listed, and lie within the civil parish of East Ravendale. The priory was founded in 1202 by Alan, son of Count Henry of Brittany, as a cell of the Premonstratensian abbey of Beauport in Brittany. Owing to wars with France it was taken into the possession of the English Crown, and was part of the dowry of Joan of Navarre, wife of Henry IV. After her death in 1437 the priory was assigned to the collegiate church of Southwell. The remains of the chapel of the priory survived into the early 20th century.

East Ravendale is a small village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 6 miles (9.7 km) south-south-west from Grimsby, and 0.5 miles (0.8 km) west from the A18. The village has a small school, a church, approximately twenty houses, and a postbox. Both East Ravendale Primary School and the neighbouring Grade II listed St Martin's Church were designed by architect James Fowler in 1857, and were his first new-build school with church. Three other buildings in the village are listed: early 18th-century East Ravendale Hall, 19th-century Parkside farmhouse, and 17th-century thatched cottages.West Ravendale, the site of the ruins of Ravendale Priory, lies 0.5 miles (0.80 km) to the west and is part of East Ravendale civil parish.

Beelsby is a village in North East Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-west from Grimsby. Beelsby population at the 2001 Census was 114, increasing to 119 at the 2011 census. The village is the source for the River Freshney. The Grade II listed parish church is dedicated to St. Andrew. In 1986 agriculture was centred on two farms: one run by the Beelsby Farming Company, the other by Fenwick Brothers, and both owned by members of the same family.

Wold Newton is a village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England. It is situated just over 1 mile (1.6 km) west from the A18 road, 7 miles (11 km) north-west from Louth, and 9.5 miles (15 km) north-east from Market Rasen.

Grimsby Rural District was a rural district in Lincolnshire, England, part of the administrative county of Lindsey, from 1894 to 1974. The district covered the town of Immingham and the parishes of Ashby-cum-Fenby, Aylesby, Barnoldby-le-Beck, Beelsby, Bradley, Brigsley, East Ravendale, Habrough, Hatcliffe, Hawerby-cum-Beesby, Healing, Humberston, Irby, Laceby, New Waltham (from 1961), Stallingborough, Waltham, West Ravendale, and Wold Newton. Four additional parishes were part of the district at some point, but were abolished prior to 1974. Little Coates was split between Grimsby borough and Great Coates parish in 1928. Scartho went to Grimsby borough and Waltham parish in 1928, and Great Coates went to Grimsby borough and Healing parish in 1968. Finally, Weelsby was given to Humberston and New Waltham parishes in 1968. The rural district was separate from the Grimsby county borough and the Municipal Borough of Cleethorpes, which it surrounded on three sides. When the county of Humberside was formed in 1974, the Grimsby rural district and the Cleethorpes municipal borough were combined to form the new borough of Cleethorpes. In 1996 the area became part of the new unitary authority of North East Lincolnshire.

Ashby cum Fenby is a village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England, approximately 5 miles (8 km) south from Grimsby, and just east of the A18 road. In the 2001 Census the population was recorded as 248, increasing marginally to 249 at the 2011 census.In 1085 William the Conqueror ordered that a survey should take place across his kingdom to determine the amount of tax that was due. The survey took place in 1086 and the results were written down in what has become known as the Domesday Book. For each place there is a list of manors together with a summary of their assets. In 1086 Ashby cum Fenby was in the Hundred of Haverstoe in Lincolnshire. The village had three manors and 29 households which is considered to be quite large for that time.Ashby cum Fenby Grade II* listed Anglican church is dedicated to St Peter. The church has an Early English tower, aisle and belfry, a Decorated chancel, and Perpendicular font. Beneath the tower are remaining parts of a 13th-century rood screen. In the north aisle are monuments to Sir William Wray (d. 1617) and his wife Frances (d. 1647), and to Susanna Drury, sister of Frances.

Brigsley is a village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England, and on the B1203 road, 1 mile (1.6 km) south from Waltham. According to the 2001 census its population was 370, reducing to 355 at the 2011 Census.Brigsley Grade II listed Anglican parish church is dedicated to St Helen. It is 11th century with later additions, 1796 alterations, and 19th and 20th century restorations. It has a Norman tower with an Early English nave and chancel.

Barnoldby le Beck is a village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England, It is situated just east of the A18 and is close to the village of Waltham and the town of Grimsby.

The Black Lady of Bradley Woods is a ghost which reportedly haunts the woods near the village of Bradley, Lincolnshire, England.Alleged eyewitnesses have described her as being young and pretty, around 5'6" tall, dressed in a flowing black cloak and a black hood that obscures her hair but reveals her mournful, pale, tear-soaked face. According to the legend she has never harmed anyone and has only ever proved to be a pitiful, if unnerving sight.

Bradley and Dixon Woods is a 41.77-hectare (103.2-acre) local nature reserve near the town of Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire. It is owned and managed by North East Lincolnshire Council. It is composed of ancient woodland, meadows, ponds and bird feeding sites, and is located south-west of Grimsby and south of the village of Bradley; the site is bounded to the north by Woodlands Farm and Bradley Woodlands Independent Hospital. The LNR can be accessed by the public via the B1444 off the A46 road. The woods are the subject of local folklore.

Waltham Windmill is a six-sailed windmill located in the village of Waltham, five miles from Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire, England. It is renowned in the area for having all six sails still in full working capacity, being one of the very few windmills like this in the United Kingdom.
