Appels is a town in the Flemish province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is part of the municipality Dendermonde. In 1125 the place is referred to as Apls, a Celtic word for water.Appels is located near the river Scheldt and is home to Appels Veer, one of the oldest, still operating ferry slips and services in the country. Appels Veer was mentioned in a document confirming the transfer of rights to operate it from Guy of Dampierre, Count of Flanders, to Gregorius, Lord of Appels, in 1253.

The Arrondissement of Dendermonde (Dutch: Arrondissement Dendermonde; French: Arrondissement de Termonde) is one of the six administrative arrondissements in the Province of East Flanders, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. However, the Judicial Arrondissement of Dendermonde also comprises the municipalities of the Arrondissements of Aalst (except the municipalities of Geraardsbergen, Herzele, Sint-Lievens-Houtem and Zottegem) and Sint-Niklaas.

Dendermonde Abbey or the Abbey of Saints Peter and Paul (founded 1837) is a Benedictine monastery in Dendermonde (Belgium), which played a role in the Liturgical Movement in Belgium.

The Dender (Dutch, [ˈdɛndər] ) or Dendre (French, [dɑ̃dʁ]) is a 65-kilometre (40-mile) long river in Belgium, the right tributary of the river Scheldt. The confluence of the two rivers is in the Belgian town of Dendermonde. The Western or Little Dender is 22 kilometres (14 miles) long and begins in Barry near Leuze-en-Hainaut at an elevation of about 60 to 70 metres (200 to 230 ft) above sea level. It begins as several canals in the fields merging together to form the Little Dender. As such, it doesn't have a real source. The source of the Eastern Dender, which is 39 kilometres (24 miles) long, is near Jurbise at a height of 100 metres (330 feet) above sea level. The two rivers meet in the town of Ath. From that confluence, the river is called the Dender proper. From Ath, the Dender passes into the Denderstreek through the cities and towns of Geraardsbergen, south of which its tributary, the Mark, flows into it. From this confluence, the river continues to flow through Ninove, Denderleeuw, and Aalst, before ending in Dendermonde. The Dender is navigable up to Aalst for small ships up to 600 tons and further upstream for ships up to 350 tons. The Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek flows into the Dender at Hofstade.

Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde (French: Saint-Gilles-lez-Termonde) is a part of the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in East Flanders in Belgium, a typical agricultural village in the Dendervallei near the junction of the railroads to Ghent, Mechelen and Brussels. It was formerly known as Zwijveke.Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde is birthplace to poet Emmanuel Hiel (1834 - 1894) and literature historian Wies Moens (1898 - 1982). Every year, on the first Sunday of September, a parade of flower-covered floats, built in the different districts, is held in Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde. On 23 January 2009, a man attacked a children's daycare centre in the village, killing at least three people and wounding as many as twenty. Italian singer Luciano Ligabue dedicated to the victims a song, Quando mi vieni a prendere? (Dendermonde 23/01/09) inserted in his 2010 album, Arrivederci, Mostro!.

The municipality comprises the city of Dendermonde and the towns of Appels, Baasrode, Grembergen, Mespelare, Oudegem, Schoonaarde, and Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde. Dendermonde is at the mouth of the river Dender, where it flows into the Scheldt. The town has a long-standing folkloric feud with Aalst, south along the same river, which dates from the Middle Ages. The city is an administrative, commercial, educational, and medical centre for the surrounding region. The current mayor of Dendermonde is Leen Dierick (Christian Democratic and Flemish).

The Jazz Center Flanders (Dutch: Jazz Centrum Vlaanderen) is a documentation and information center in Dendermonde in East Flanders, Belgium. It is dedicated to archiving, documenting and researching audio and visual recordings of traditional jazz and blues music.In addition it maintains a museum, with guided tours, thematic exhibitions, video presentations and workshops. It is aiming to promote jazz and blues by organizing concerts and lectures, and releasing publications and news letters.The collection gives insight in the development of jazz and blues since the early years in the United States, and the adaptation and development of these styles since the 1950s in Flanders (see Jazz in Belgium). The center has the possession of some rare material, like photo and video recordings at festivals, concerts and in clubs. The archive can be consulted by the public.The center is located near the Honky Tonk Jazz Club, which was established in 1965.

The Dendermonde nursery attack was a stabbing attack on the Fabeltjesland daycare centre in the Flemish village of Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde in Dendermonde, Belgium, at 10:00 a.m. CET (9:00 a.m. UTC) on January 23, 2009. Three people were stabbed to death, and twelve were mutilated in the attack. The suspect has been linked to a separate murder of an elderly lady and police have suggested he was plotting more nursery attacks. The daycare centre where the initial attack occurred is expected never to reopen.

Lebbeke (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlɛbeːkə]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the towns of Denderbelle, Lebbeke proper and Wieze. In 2021, Lebbeke had a total population of 19.560. The total area is 27.31 km². Lebbeke is home to the chocolate factory Callebaut.

Grembergen (French: Grembergen-lez-Termonde) is a village in the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in the province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is often confused with the municipality of Grimbergen in the province of Flemish Brabant.

Berlare (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɛrlaːrə] ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Berlare proper, Overmere and Uitbergen, as well as the village Donk. The Donkmeer, a large lake and a regional tourist attraction, is located centrally in the municipality. In 2021, Berlare had a total population of 15,222.

The Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek or in popular language Molenbeek (English: Millbrook-Ter Erpenbrook) is a brook in the Denderstreek, Belgium. The stream has a length of approximately 25 kilometers. The source of the Molenbeek is in Godveerdegem and the delta is located at Hofstade. This brook is not to be confused with another Molenbeek which also flows through Erpe-Mere (and Herzele).
