Lliw Valley

Garnswllt () is a rural village in the City and County of Swansea, Wales falling within the Mawr ward. It lies in the far north of Swansea near the border with Carmarthenshire. Garnswllt is also a community ward for elections to Mawr Community Council.

Mynydd y Gwair (Penlle’r Castell) (English: The Hay Mountain) is a mountain in Swansea, Wales. Mynydd y Gwair is 373m/1224 ft high.[1]

The Ammanford transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility located on Mynydd y Betws about 6 km (4 mi) to the south east of the town of Ammanford, in Carmarthenshire, Wales (grid reference SN661109). The building was originally built by Messrs. T. Richard Jones of Ammanford for the BBC, entering service in 1968 acting as a relay transmitter for the now-defunct 405-line VHF television system. The site has a self-standing 30 m (100 ft) lattice tower erected on land that is itself about 330 m (1,100 ft) above sea level. The television broadcast primarily covered the towns of Ammanford, Brynamman, Cwmamman and indeed much of the valley of the Amman river. 405-line television from this site was shut down in 1983. From this point onwards, the site has handled telecommunications services only (including service as a mobile phone mast).

Betws (meaning: chapel house) is a small village and community on the River Amman in Carmarthenshire, Wales, some 15 miles north of Swansea; it is part of the ecclesiastical parish of Betws and Ammanford, and the urban area of Ammanford. The nearby mountain, at the western end of the Black Mountain, is named after the village, and has a large area of common land.

Penlle'r Castell is an historic ruin on the summit of Mynydd y Gwair in the far north of the City and County of Swansea. The Penlle'r Castell site was probably a late 13th-century stronghold garrisoned by one of the Marcher Lords. Penlle'r Castell is located 1213 feet above sea level. The meaning of the name in English is "summit of the place of the castle".

Mynydd y Betws is a mountain or large hill located on the northern side of the border between Swansea and Carmarthenshire in South Wales, between Ammanford and Clydach. It is an area of upland with large stretches of tussocky grassland. The medieval castle of Penlle'r Castell is located on Mynydd y Gwair to the south-south west, Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm is prominent with fifteen 110 m (361 ft) wind turbines.

The River Amman (Welsh: Afon Aman) is a river of south Wales, which joins the River Loughor at Pantyffynnon. The source of the Amman is on the Black Mountain. The river name is said to derived from the Welsh word banw "pig, piglet", reflecting the way in which it roots through the land like a pig. It gives its name to the town of Ammanford and the villages of Pontamman, Glanamman, Brynamman and Rhosamman. Garnant and Betws also lie in the Amman Valley - Garnant and Glanamman were formerly known as Cwmamman and it is now the name of their combined urban council. Garnant railway station was originally known as Amman Valley, the English version of Cwmamman. In the 19th and early 20th centuries the valley was a booming coal-mining area, but the mines have now closed.

Ammanford Colliery Halt railway station served the colliery near Ammanford, West Wales. Opened to serve the colliery, the station closed, leaving the current Ammanford station providing trains for the area.

Ammanford railway station was opened under the name Cross Inn by the Llanelly Railway in 1840 to serve the town of Ammanford, West Wales. It was renamed Ammanford in 1883. The station was the main one in the town until it closed in 1958, leaving the current Ammanford station (then known as Tirydail, later Ammanford & Tirydail) providing trains for the area.

The Amman Valley Railway Society (Welsh: Rheilffordd Dyffryn Aman) is situated near the former Gwaun Cae Gurwen branch line, that runs alongside the River Amman, some 10 miles (16 km) north of Swansea in west Wales. Its primary focus is to construct Swansea 9 Lines, an eco-friendly tram system to the heart of Swansea and the surrounding areas. The project was originally based on a heritage railway proposal on a lines that formerly served the various collieries of the area north of Swansea and Llanelli. In 2014 the Abernant Branch line had been cleared, along with a station platform, track beds and unearthed railway lines, all of which were being restored.

Pantyffynnon railway station is a railway station serving the village of Pantyffynnon, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is situated on the Heart of Wales Line at its junction with the branch lines to Brynamman and Abernant.

Pontamman was the name of an electoral ward for Carmarthenshire County Council, which included parts of the town and community of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It was represented by one county councillor.
