Crook and Willington Urban District

Sunnybrow is a village in County Durham, in England. In the 2001 census Sunnybrow had a population of 1,296. It is effectively the southern suburb of Willington. It has a primary school and a car show room as well as a cemetery which was created in 1889 along with a now demolished church as part of the Sunnybrow St. John Parish. In 2008, its only post office was closed. Sunnybrow is also home to the Spectrum Leisure Complex (opened in 1985 by Lord Roxborough who was eight at the time) which featured the only dry ski slope in the area. However due to a decline in the demand for alpine skiing in the South West Durham area, this part of the facility was closed in 2004.

Helmington Row is a small village in County Durham, England. It is situated between Crook and Willington, about 7 miles south-west of Durham and 3 miles north-north-west of Bishop Auckland. It has its own park known locally as the Rec, and a petrol station. The village is on the main bus route from Crook to Durham. Crook Golf Club lies to the North of the village. The village itself consists of several terraced streets with the almost totally abandoned Bowden Close within its boundaries. There are around 6 main streets in the main block of houses (3 of those are very popular, Church Street, East View and Russ Street), other streets are situated along the road (not counted). In the 2001 census Helmington Row had a population of 228. There are two sets of allotments where local people may grow their own fruit and vegetables and keep small amounts of livestock. The village once boasted several pubs, The Bowden Inn, the Shoulder of Mutton, The Helmington Inn and the Colliery Inn. The latter has recently been renamed the Copper Mine. It is also home to the 'field of dreams' which refers to a small football pitch used by locals of all ages. In the summer it is often occupied everyday and is the main attraction of the town.

Willington railway station served the town of Willington, County Durham, North East England from 1857 to 1964 on the Durham to Bishop Auckland Line.

Durham City Association Football Club is a football club based in Durham, England. Members of the Football League from 1921 until 1928, they currently play in the Wearside League Division One.

Willington Association Football Club is an English football club based in Willington, County Durham. The club are currently members of the Wearside League Premier Division and play at Hall Lane.

Willington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Greater Willington, in County Durham and the ceremonial county of Durham, England. Willington stands in the foothills of the Pennines and near the River Wear close to Crook, Bishop Auckland and Durham. Like many communities in the area Willington's economy was largely based on coal mining. The closure of the colliery in 1967 therefore affected the local economy.

Parkside Academy (formerly Parkside School and then Parkside Sports College), is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in Hall Lane Estate, Willington, Crook, County Durham, England. Parkside teaches a wide range of standard, and specialist curriculum subjects as well as a multitude of after school activities. It is a well known community association and hosts a state of the art Gym and activities for youths under 16. The school specializes in Information Technology and Physical Education.

New Hunwick is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north of Bishop Auckland, joined with the older village of Hunwick. This area of Hunwick grew up around the industrialisation of County Durham.

Hunwick railway station served the village of Hunwick, County Durham, England from 1857 to 1964 on the Durham to Bishop Auckland Line.

Oakenshaw is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north of Willington. In the 2001 census Oakenshaw had a population of 470.The village was purely a colliery village built for workers at the pit owned by Messrs. Straker & Love. Sinking started in 1855 but definite opening and closing dates are unknown. No disasters of 5 or more people killed were ever recorded but 43 people in total are known to have been killed working at the pit. Once the pit was closed down the village suffered, losing its school and chapels, and several rows of housing were demolished. Housing that was left are now in private ownership and newer housing has been built in the village. The pit was re-opened from 1991 till 1993 but did little to improve the village's economy. Between this point and the millennium the Working Men's Club also closed down, with rumours of a new owner or new housing being built before the building burned down around 2002 due to arson. New housing was built in its place leaving Oakenshaw without a club or pub. The village is home to a large public open field at one end of the village, it runs parallel to New Row and boasts a small football pitch and playing area. After the closure of the mine a Wildlife Reserve area was set up consisting of woodland and pond areas where the opencast mine used to be situated.

Newfield is a village and former civil parish in the County Durham district, in the ceremonial county of Durham, England. It is situated to the south of Willington, near Bishop Auckland. In the 2001 census Newfield had a population of 368.

North Bitchburn is a small village in County Durham, England. It is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) north west of Bishop Auckland, near Howden-le-Wear. In the 2001 census North Bitchburn had a population of 135. The village has a row of terrace houses named Low Row consisting of 20 houses. There are also estates called Wellgarth Court, North Bitchburn Terrace and Hillside Court. There is one public house, a Methodist chapel and one shop within the village centre. The public house is named 'The Red Lion'.
