Zachary Taylor Wellington House

The Thomas Carroll House, also known as the Madie Carroll House, is an historic home located in the Guyandotte neighborhood in the city of Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia. It is also known as one of the oldest structures in Cabell County. The original section of the house was built prior to 1810, and is believed to have arrived in Guyandotte by flatboat from Gallipolis, Ohio. The property was purchased by Thomas Carroll in March 1855 and remained under the ownership of his descendants until it was deeded to the Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District on October 10, 1984, after the last tenant, Miss Madie Carroll's demise. It is one of the few houses in Guyandotte to survive the Civil War and even once was a church, an inn, and a home to many. During the Civil War the house was a safe haven for Union soldiers which is a rich history that the Madie Carroll House Preservation Society has spent the last few decades protecting and educating many on. As of today the house is owned and operated by the Madie Carroll House Preservation Society where they hold several events such as their annual Guyandotte Civil War Days. It is open to the public as a museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Guyandotte is a historic neighborhood in the city of Huntington, West Virginia, that previously existed as a separate town before annexation was completed by the latter. The neighborhood is home to many historic properties, and was first settled by natives of France at the end of the eighteenth century. Guyandotte was already a thriving town when the state of West Virginia was formed from part of Virginia. Located at the confluence of the Guyandotte River and the Ohio River, it was already a regional trade center with several industries of its own when the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) reached its western terminus nearby just across the Guyandotte River in 1873. This event was soon followed by the formation and quick development of the present city of Huntington which was named in honor of the C&O Railway's founder and then principal owner Collis P. Huntington.

The Guyandotte River train wreck occurred on the morning of January 1, 1913, when the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway's (C&O) train No. 99, scheduled to run from Hinton, West Virginia, to Russell, Kentucky, and headed by Mikado locomotive 820, fell through a bridge over the Guyandotte River near Huntington, West Virginia while attempting to cross it. The accident killed seven people.At approximately 11:00 AM, No. 99 approached the bridge and was stopped by a flagman protecting a bridgework crew that was unloading materials for repairs on it. In the meantime, Engineer E.B. "Shorty" Webber carried out maintenance on the locomotive while the fireman and front brakeman walked out on to the bridge to inspect the repairs and continued on to the opposite side. After the flagman gave the all clear, Webber slowly started across the bridge with the intention on picking up the brakeman and fireman on the far side. Despite the ongoing repairs, the bridge had stayed open for several previous days under traffic with no problems. As 820 reached the middle of the bridge, the center span collapsed, plunging it into the river along with Webber and 13 bridge workers. Webber and six of the bridge workers were killed.Rescuers saved the seven other bridge workers from the river. Thousands of people lined the river as rescue efforts went on. Eventually the bodies of Webber and bridge workers J.W. Crawford, Charles Maddy (found 50 miles downstream near Portsmouth, Ohio), and Emmett Wood were recovered. Remains of Bridge Workers Henry White; Charles Coyner and J.G Wheeler were lost. It was not until June 1913 that C&O was able to salvage the locomotive from the river.

The Guyandotte River is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 166 mi (267 km) long, in southwestern West Virginia in the United States. It was named after the French term for the Wendat Native Americans. It drains an area of the unglaciated Allegheny Plateau south of the Ohio between the watersheds of the Kanawha River to the northeast and Twelvepole Creek and the Big Sandy River to the southwest. Via the Ohio River, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed.

The East Huntington Bridge (officially the Frank Gatski Memorial Bridge, also called the East End Bridge or the 31st Street Bridge) is a 900-foot (270 m) cable-stayed bridge crossing the Ohio River at Huntington, West Virginia. It carries West Virginia Route 106 on the West Virginia approach and OH 775 on the Ohio approach.The northern approach (from Ohio State Route 7) is the recently extended Ohio State Route 775; its southern terminus is a pair of ramps (northbound on-ramp from Fifth Avenue, southbound offramp to Third Avenue) connecting it to U.S. Route 60.

Rotary Park Bridge is a historic arch bridge located in Rotary Park at Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia, United States. It was built in 1929-1930 and is constructed of native rock-faced, square-cut ashlar in a rustic style. It is approximately 175 feet long and 30 feet wide.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

St. Mary's Medical Center (SMMC) is a hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, USA. With 393 beds, it is the second largest medical facility in the tri-state region wherein West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky meet following King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky which has 465 beds. The medical center is the largest private employer in Cabell County with over 2600 employees.

The station is owned by Positive Alternative Radio and maintains studios on Lester Lane in Cannonsburg, Kentucky. WKAO's transmitter facilities are located next to Rotary Park in eastern Huntington, West Virginia. WKAO and the Walk FM franchise are relayed across four full-power FM stations, one FM translator, and one AM station.

WTCR-FM (103.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a country format. Licensed to Huntington, West Virginia, United States, it serves the Huntington area. The station is owned by iHeartMedia. From 1993 to 2017, the morning show was hosted by radio personalities Clint McElroy and Judy Eaton.

Proctorville is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 523 at the 2020 census. The East End Bridge connects Proctorville to Huntington, West Virginia across the Ohio River. Proctorville is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

The Veterans Memorial Fieldhouse was an 8,500-seat (6,500 for basketball) multi-purpose arena in Huntington, West Virginia. It was built in 1950. Prior to the completion of the Huntington Civic Center (now known as Mountain Health Arena) in 1976, it was the only large arena in the city. It closed on February 10, 2012, and was demolished later that year.

Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex is a 1,006-capacity soccer-specific stadium in Huntington, West Virginia where it is the home of Marshall University's men's and women's soccer teams. It was built on the former site of the Veterans Memorial Fieldhouse, which was demolished in order to build the stadium. An inaugural double-header took place on August 23, 2013. The men's team held a scrimmage against Marshall alumni from past years resulting in a 2–0 victory. The women's team faced the Campbell University Fighting Camels and won 3–0.The stadium hosted the 2016 Conference USA Men's Soccer Tournament, 2023 Sun Belt Tournament, and NCAA Tournament games. "The Vet" has hosted the Mountain State Derby four times with the Thundering Herd amassing a record of 3-0-1. The 2023 Sun Belt Championship edition of the Mountain State Derby was the highest-attended soccer game ever in West Virginia with 3,151 in the crowd.
